Little Griddle is my favorite breakfast joint at the moment, I've tried many in Portland...and there are a lot of good ones. The breakfast here (I haven't had brunch or lunch) is good, down home diner food, which has it's own atmosphere, like film noire. I'm an egg for breakfast guy and they do eggs beautifully. So the food is mucho satisfying but the folks who work there (and in the 41st and Fremont one) are friendly and funny and professional in the most laid back way. It's Portlandia done right. I'm also an artist, and they let me hang my little collage, which is actually entitled "Breakfast Down at the Neighborhood Diner" on the a wall by the counter, so don't forget to take a look at it. It's pretty good, if I do say so myself. Beware, parking in the Hawthorne District is hairy. read more

We stopped by on Sunday morning before Memorial Day and had a table within minutes. I ordered the Huevos Benedictos (braised spiced pork shoulder, avocado, cilantro, cotija, hollandaise, pico de gallo, citrus squeeze, english muffin) with a side of potatoes and a michelada. My partner had French toast with salad. The bendictos were amazing. I chose savory over sweet 10 times out of 10 and this was so good. The biscuit had a a bit of crunch, the eggs were perfect and I licked the plate clean. I added a bit of the house made hot sauce to the potatoes. My partner's French toast looked good and they had a salad as the side. The salad was incredible. I wish I had ordered it instead of the potatoes. It consisted of mixed greens and hazelnuts topped with poppy-seed dressing. So good! read more

I've been wanting to try Little griddle for a while now. The wait can be a bit brutal on the weekend, so I'd recommend putting your name on the virtual waitlist prior to arrival. There is only neighborhood street parking, FYI. There's only a handful of tables inside (and a couple outside) but the space is nice and cozy. They have both plants and art on the walls for sale. Their menu offers a number of options for both drinks and food. I had a mango mimosa (one of the best mimosas I've had in some time) to drink, and a pancake and the vegetable hash to eat. The pancake was wonderful. The hash was a great mix of veggies and the most perfect poached eggs on top. It was served with a small spring mix salad. My complaint with all the food was that it was just ok. While prepared well, it all lacked flavor. Nothing seasoned or stood out as a great dish. The service was fantastic. A small staff, but they all were doing everything and I believe everyone touched our table throughout our dining experience. If I could sum this place up in one word, it's be homey. Little Griddle, particularly this location, is a petite little spot which feels cozy even on the coldest days. I went by with a friend on a Tuesday morning around 9 am and we were able to snag one of the last 2 tops that were open. Bewarned if you go during busy hours or the weekend, you'll likely have to wait or join the waitlist. We both opted for a hot chocolate, which was overall fine, but definitely powdered mix + milk type of situation. They are in giant mugs so fyi! My friend and I were like oops we could have should have shared this :P Foodwise she got the huevos benedictos aka huevos rancheros buuut benedict style! Perfect combo as she'd been craving both. I had the shakshuka. Tastewise, my food was fine; the eggs were properly poached and runny, but the tomato base itself was just fine. The amt of bread for the dish was just too little but that's a me problem, not a them problem. We both opted to get potatoes on the side rather than the salads that our dishes came with annnd the roasted potatoes were just fine. I felt like a lot of what was presented was on par with what my partner and I could potentially make at home. No disrespect to Little Griddle but it truly felt homey. That's not to say that things weren't tasty. Prices are fair for quality and service was really nice. Attentive without being overbearing. Parking in this area can get dicey so you may have to park a biiit further away during busy times. read more

We found this restaurant through a recommendation and it was a great spot! We had about a 15 minute wait for our table of three. It's a small restaurant with a few outdoor tables for two people. As we were waiting, we we able to see that one table got pancakes and that inspired my daughter to order one too! Service was speedy, which was nice. I ordered the shakshouka and it was very flavorful. I loved that our meals came with a side salad, which was so lovely! I was in the clean your plate club today! My husband had the sausage breakfast sandwich, which he said was really good and as mentioned previously, my kiddo ordered a pancake. I tried a bite of her pancake and it was one of my all time favorite pancakes from a restaurant! We will happily be back when we are in Portland again! read more

I went to Little Griddle in Portland for brunch after spending the morning at the hospital with a friend having surgery. There was a bit of a wait (which was fine, given the small interior) but the place looks very cozy inside. I was seated and given a menu, and it was nice to see the art and plants all around, which gave the space a very welcoming vibe. I ordered a plate that had potatoes, eggs any way you wanted, some sausage and a biscuit. The potatoes were flavorful and my egg was cooked perfectly. The biscuit was interesting. I'm from the south and I had never had a biscuit quite like it. It was golden, but almost like it had been pan fried on the outside, or cooked in a salamander. It was delicious, but not flaky. That's not a critique, just it was very different than any other biscuit I had eaten before. The servers were very nice, and the coffee very good. I'd certainly come back! Such a lovely little place! Sweet, helpful staff, clean, and really great food and drink. The drip coffee was very smooth and they kept my cup full. My breakfast partner had the veggie hash which was enjoyed very much. I had the Truckstop breakfast with 2 eggs, breakfast potatoes, veggie sausage (comes with your choice of protein), and a cat's head biscuit (that's what we called giant biscuits in the South). The cook prepared the scrambled eggs perfectly - I order eggs "scrambled, soft" but don't always come out that way, but they were expertly on target here. The breakfast potatoes were glorious- a generous serving of perfectly seasoned, fluffy soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, two pieces of tasty vegan sausage, and the biscuit had been sliced and heated on the stove and came with butter and what I suspect might have been housemade berry jam. I am fussy about pancakes and didn't see anyone else with them on their plates (as I rubbernecked around the room to see what people were eating) but I think I'll try one next time, now that I know what an exceptionally good job they did with everything on this first visit. Country Benedict: the braised chicken was cooked to perfection, the hollandaise was perfect, and that was the tastiest, best biscuit I have ever had...AND I LIVE IN THE SOUTH! I also added a side of potatoes which were well-seasoned, crispy, and comforting. (Not pictured) My friend got the french toast which she thoroughly enjoyed and I also got to try some and loved that it was fresh bread, not overly sweet, and topped with fresh fruit sauce. We did note that it needed more but that might be the south in us that wants diabetes in everything. Lastly...the cold brew latter that they added their house made brown sugar syrup to. We got on their waiting list and after receiving a message that we are first in line, we headed to the restaurant but ended up waiting another 30 minutes while watching multiple people coming in, checking in and getting inside while we were still waiting. When we finally were able to get inside, host didn't even show us our table. He did the same thing to the rest of the people as well creating bit of a confusion for everyone. His demeanor was very much like "I don't care" Food was way too salty and potatoes were undercooked. The collard greens with the biscuit and braised chicken was a good take on a soul food Benedict. The French toast was extremely fluffy with the right amount of sweetness. The bloody Mary , or Maria (tequila) definitely helped with my slight hangover, and I ended up getting an Irish coffee, which was delicious as well. It's a delicious complement and gives whatever you're enjoying a healthy feel. The chicken biscuit is not the handheld kind as there's lots of oozing goodness. We found a table for two in the half-filled restaurant, just in the nick of time! Within ten minutes of our arrival the popular restaurant had a 12-person waitlist. I can't stress enough how adorable Little Griddle is. They pack a lot of cuteness into this small footprint of a cafe with 10-12 tables that stretch from the bright window in the front, to the kitchen window in the back. The ocean blue ceiling has touches of gold trim throughout, and the featured works by local artists help make the space feel extra special. I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit with a side of roasted potatoes. The presentation was lovely, and the biscuit was expertly made. The meals seem shareable as the portions are generous. Every dish has a vegetarian option, and diners will find a wide variety of breakfast and brunch items on the menu. The overall vibe of Little Griddle is bright and happy. The staff were smiling and pleasant, and very attentive to our needs. I happily left a 25% tip and promised to come back again soon. We stopped at Little Griddle before a spa day, and it was the perfect start. We joined the waitlist on the way over and only had about a 10-minute wait when we arrived. The place was packed -- and now I know exactly why. Service was great, food came out quickly, and everything was delicious. I ordered a single pancake with a pork sausage patty, and that pancake was ridiculously fluffy with real maple syrup -- absolutely worth the hype. My friend had the Truck Stop meal, and we both cleaned our plates. The only survivor was part of her biscuit, but to be fair, that biscuit was huge (and really good). I absolutely love this place, first off the location on Hawthorne does not get better. There is so much to do near bye and the vibes are always perfect especially during the summer. The food is great. If you want some yummy breakfast/brunch food but don't want to spend 30$ this is the place to go. I got a coffee and an entree for under 20$ which is hard to do at most sit down breakfast lunch spots. The eggs are always amazing here and you can't go wrong with their pulled pork options as well. The service is so amazing, I usually never have any issues or problem when I come here but today they were just a tad bit late on bringing my food out compared to the rest of my party. The server apologized and even discounted my food for the inconvenience which I thought was very thoughtful. Visiting friends Woke up late, but made it for brunch at Little Griddle. My friend was like we have to eat here. The food did not disappoint. My friend & I ordered- the Shakshuka Skillet it came with: 2 poached eggs, marinated feta, peppers, onions, tomato and stewed spices. And I added vegan sausage. My friend's husband order the Bacon & Spinach Skillet. I also ordered a hot tea, which was basic. I will have to try something else for drinks next time. The food did not disappoint.
