Fits like 7 vehicles. To get to the river on the bottom does require some climbing down. To get back, of course you have to climb back up. Put on your shoes and have fun walking/hiking. This is a fun little adventure for those who don't mind something a bit off the beaten path. The…read moretrailhead is unmarked, so using Google Maps is the best way to find it. There's a small parking area, but it wasn't too crowded when we visited. Guessing probably because not many people know about this spot. The hike itself is short and fairly uneventful until you reach the end, where you'll find a big climbing tree and a nice resting area. From there, head down the slope to the left and then turn right and you'll see a small path that lead down to the actual caves. Getting into the first cave requires navigating a slight slope, but it's very manageable. Moving from the first to the second cave is also pretty easy; there's a solid ledge you can step around with a simple 90 degree turn. It felt safe enough for younger kids as long as they took it slow. You can guide them from the side or from below the ledge. Going from the second to the third cave is the trickiest, especially for smaller statured hikers. The ledge is narrower, the walls offer less grip, and there's a rock that sticks out at the corner, so you need to step over and around it. Still, it's doable with care. If you can stabilize yourself by bracing your back against the corner and your feet against the opposite side, you can help smaller kids make the crossing safely, basically acting as a gondola lift. Again at the end, there's a small opening that you can use your back and feet to stabilize yourself and lean out a little bit for a nice view. Overall, a short, adventurous, and memorable spot. Great for adventurous families who enjoy a little scrambling! Definitely one of the more thrilling and memorable experiences for the kids on our trip.

From this viewpoint, one gets a clear look at many of Sedona's major landmarks shown on the metal artwork from Cook's Comb, Little Sugarloaf to Capital Butte, Coffee Pot etc. In my opinion, this is the best vantage point, as no hiking is required, making this an ideal stop for families, seniors, or anyone short on time.

I definitely would call this a beginners trail, it's not super challenging, mostly flat and easy to access. Because of these things, the trail does get crowded I've heard, but we were lucky when we went and it was pretty quiet, though we were there on a weekday morning. As you go along the trail, it is of course beautiful because we are in Northern Arizona, but the unexpected beauty of this giant red rock wall that appears almost out of nowhere is incredible. There are also caves that are super cool and fun to imagine how they came to be. I had a great time on this hike and would absolutely suggest it for the beginner hiker, considering it is only about 3 miles, or those that just want a great time outdoors soaking in the glory of Northern Arizona.

This trail is great for birdwatchers. The trail itself connects Old Town Cottonwood with Riverfront Park and the Verde River. I have walked the Jail Trail a couple times when visiting Cottonwood and have always enjoyed the peacefulness it offers.

Get ready for climbing over lots of rocks. I'd only do this one if you are well prepared, have proper shoes/hiking gear and know your fitness level for challenging hikes. We decided to turn back about 1/2 of the way after starting our hike late in the day. Out of an extra abundance of caution hiking with dogs and me being 5 months pregnant we didn't want to chance having to descend the steeper rock section in the dark. We adjusted based on our climb time to mileage and elevation completed versus what was left. The view we got and the portion of the hike we did were amazing. It was a steep climb with lots of rock scrambling and elevation change. This is technically a dog friendly trail because it is national forest, BUT I highly caution people unless their dogs are used to scaling rocks. Our two have been doing it since they were tiny and my husband is super confident in being able to safely ascend and descend with both of them.
