    Istanbul Mixed Appetizer For 2

Amazing restaurant located in the Somerton neighborhood in the Far Northeast. Simple decor with beautiful mosaic glass light fixtures hanging over the tables. We got the Istanbul Kebab Mixer which includes season chicken, lamb chop, lamb kebab, and beef slices with fries and seasoned rice. The kebabs were so tender and juicy and full of flavor. The lamb does taste a bit gamy so don't order if you don't like that. Dessert was great! You got up to the counter to order. Then they will bring it to your table. The Istanbul tea was a regular black tea. They don't have tap water so be prepared to order a drink or bottle water. Tip: if you're paying by card, they don't have a tipping by card option. So bring cash tip!

Loved, loved, loved this restaurant. Food was delicious!!! The atmosphere was wonderful!! Our waiter was very attentive. We started off with the Hummus and Haydari and they both were very tasty. I had the Yogurtlu Chicken Adana, so very yummy!! For dessert I had the Baklava it was the best I ever had. So moist and full of flavor. I enjoyed my pot of Turkish Tea. I definitely recommend this restaurant. I will be back for sure!! I will try their Levittown location next.

Food was amazing!!! Staff was helpful and catered to all customers. The restaurant is very clean. My favorite thing we ordered was the Pan Liver Cubes. The Turkish tea was also divine!

Located in a tightly designed old commercial strip on Bustleton Avenue in the far Northeast, Philadelphia, Little Istanbul is a small Turkish restaurant with pleasant atmosphere, good service, and a fairly broad menu of Mediterranean and Ottoman style cuisine. With about a dozen tables, it pays to know what you want to order coming in because the room turns over quickly. This part of the city has a strong East European, Silk Road community, and this place fits right in. We ordered Red Lentil Soup, Sauced Eggplant, Ground Beef/Lamb Pide and the Baked Salmon dinner. Based on our experience we would stick with the gyros and appetizers next visit, and shy away from the more elaborate dinners and Pide. Here's why: The soup and eggplant were excellent, with fresh flavor, plenty of spice and wonderful bread and pita to help it down the gullet. The lentil soup was creamy and steaming hot, and more yellow than red. Apparently, it had a chicken broth base, which surprised my companion. The eggplant came in a tomato and olive oil base, and was served cold. Loved it. However, the salmon, while a thick steak, was delivered past its peak from the oven. It was a little dry and the sauce it came in was not able to revive it. Otherwise, the taste was okay, but it could have been so much more. The Pide is very similar to a dish found in Georgian bakeries. The shape of a boat, it is basically thin dough with cheese and ground beef and lamb spread thinly across parts of the dish, much like pizza in taste, but with more interesting crust. It would have been great with more meat topping, but as it was it was a simple pleasure. The lamb and chicken gyros we saw served nearby looked like absolute winners, and we would definitely try them next time. Too, enjoyed sitting across the dining room from the large photo mural of the Bosporus waterway that transects the city of Istanbul (not Constantinople), and separates eastern Europe from western Asia. A fantastic old fortress city now part of a modern Turkey. 3.5 STARS

Yesterday in the early evening I stopped by this little wonder in Philadelphia. It's not the first time I've been there but each time I'm greeted with a smile and the smell of the food is enough to make anyone salivate. The young woman at the register took my order and her boss with a smile came in and said hello. In very short order I received my order to go. I ordered the lamb gyro on Turkish bread and for an appetizer I ordered the cheese borek. Honestly, I couldn't choose which one was better because they were both delicious. I will come back again because the hospitality and the food are spectacular. I recommend this place highly. P. S. You have to love a place that's loaded with locals. They know good when they see it and certainly when they taste it

I've been looking for a good, reasonably priced Turkish place around the area, and this place was great. It was PACKED on a Saturday night, and we waited a little bit because we didn't have a reservation. The food took a little while to be ready, but it was worth it. Everything we ordered was pretty good, and service was pleasant. There seemed to be some miscommunication with who had what table and what items we ordered at one point, but the servers were still pleasant to deal with. Would definitely come again.

I ordered lahmacun, and the meat came out almost raw. It was the worst lahmacun I've ever had. They didn't even bother to slice the tomatoes. Theese foods can be called anything but definitely not Turkish.

My husband, daughter and I shared the mixed plate for two, which was plenty for the three of us. We ate beef kabobs, Chicken Adana (my favorite), chicken thighs, Turkish meatballs and lamb kabobs. Served with the most flavorful salad, sautéed vegetables and rice, the mixed plate is a great option if you haven't zeroed in on something specific. Middle Eastern food…read morenow occupies a far more prominent place in global dining culture, but Zahav was well ahead of that expansion, especially in the United States. Alongside internationally influential figures such as Yotam Ottolenghi and Eyal Shani, Michael Solomonov helped introduce a wider audience to the depth, variety, and sophistication of modern Israeli cuisine. Philadelphia is incredibly fortunate that he and his longtime partner, Steve Cook, built their defining restaurant here. My wife and I visited for an early dinner around 5:00 p.m. and chose the prix fixe menu, which remains one of the most memorable meals I have had in Philadelphia. The mezze was exceptionally fresh, the hummus completely lived up to its reputation, and the pita with za'atar was delectable. I also remember the rice (tahdig), chicken, and famous pomegranate lamb shoulder being delicious, while a cold Goldstar beer was a simple but perfect touch. Looking back at the food photographs still makes me hungry. Zahav creates a genuine sense of arrival before the first plate reaches the table. The elevated entrance sits above the surrounding shrubs and landscaping, making the restaurant feel pleasantly removed from the street, and we entered along the side beside the patio. Inside, the stone surfaces, stained glass, and warm finishes evoke Jerusalem's Old City without crossing into theatrical territory, while transparent windows along the kitchen reveal the work taking place behind them. Because we arrived while it was still light outside, natural light filled the restaurant; photos taken by other diners suggest that the fixtures create an entirely different glow after dark against the Jerusalem-inspired stone palette. As we entered, Solomonov was standing beside the pita oven to the left, and we were honestly a bit starstruck. We occasionally see him around Philadelphia, but watching someone with his global reputation doing such basic, physical work alongside the staff was especially meaningful. He struck me as a servant leader who remains close to the craft and the people responsible for delivering the experience each night. The fantastic service throughout dinner reflected that same combination of confidence, warmth, and attention. Solomonov's culinary talent is matched by a rare instinct for marketing, brand building, and community presence. His social media, cookbooks, retail products, and appearances in Netflix and YouTube food programming have extended his influence well beyond the restaurant, and he is as cool and charismatic as he is gifted in the culinary arts. A subtler strength across CookNSolo is the group's command of operations and technology, from its reservation systems and point-of-sale experience to the digital integration that guests may barely notice. Solomonov and Cook have created distinct concepts that operate with discipline without losing their individual character, and that balance between imagination and execution may be the most impressive part of what they have built. That judgment also extends to where CookNSolo chooses to open. The arrival of one of its restaurants can serve as an early vote of confidence in a neighborhood or development, attracting attention and signaling the cultural momentum that often precedes broader investment and excitement. Laser Wolf's presence in Philadelphia and at The Hoxton in Williamsburg embodies that philosophy, and I am eager to visit both locations, as well as Jaffa Bar in Philadelphia and Aviv in Miami. Zahav deserves to remain the focus here, while the broader quality of the CookNSolo ecosystem will unfold through the many other reviews I still need to write, including Goldie, K'Far, Dizengoff, Federal Donuts, Merkaz, and others. !

We were split between a fish dish and grape leaves and ultimately decided on the fish, but our waitress brought a small portion of the grape leaves for us anyways.
