The best pizza place in the West End? It's a difficult choice to make but there's a good chance that it's Little Italy. I'm sure most people would at least put it in their top 3. It's not an enormous restaurant. A large bar/service area takes up a lot of space, as does the pizza oven at the back and as suck the seats are kind of arranged all the way around the edges. Somehow though, whenever I've wanted to sit in, they have managed to find a space for me. They do pizza and pasta mostly, with a few other Italian favourites. The coffee is really good and the cake is the ideal thing to bring as a surprise in a take away box to a friend who needs cheering up. Trust me, it never fails. The pizza comes as slices (really squares) or three other standard sizes, starting at 10 inch and is cheese and tomato by default. There isn't really a menu of standard toppings like, for example, mushroom and proscuitto, red pepper and goats cheese, Hawaiian, Four Seasons, etc. Rather, they just have all imaginable toppings and you tell them which ones you'd like. This way you pay for the toppings you want based on the size of pizza you order, and every pizza is, in that sense, personalised. Once you've placed your order you're given a buzzer (regardless of whether you're sitting in or taking out) and when it goes off you head over to that pizza oven and the chef will hand it to you with or without freshly ground black pepper, according to your preference. The pizza is always good too. Always. The base is great and the toppings are reliably fresh and delicious. Sadly, the days are gone when a snapfax and £4 could get you a pizza and a can of soda but their still very fairly priced for the quality you can expect. read more

This vibrant little shop is the Italian espresso bar personified. The coffee is perfect for your morning cappuccino, the focaccia's perfect for a quick lunch and the pizza's perfect for your tea (or since we're in The West End should I say dinner?) Tiramisu? That's another story. It's not always on offer, but when it is - I'M THERE! Word of note though - just stay away from the sugar bowls. I've seen licked spoons go where they ought not to. Little Italy has been a firm favourite with me for years. They have recently undergone a refit and I awaited their opening with excitement. Unfortunately it appears the mighty have fallen. Traditionally you would place your order be given a buzzer and find yourself a seat a system which has been tried and tested for years. This has all changed now you can either order to takeaway or front of house tell you to grab yourself a seat and someone will serve you. We looked and it was really hard to find a couple of seats together half of the mezzanine is still under construction. We eventually settled for some seats on the long bench facing each other and waited .... waited some more still nothing. Customers next to us were complaining both about quality from one direction and the couple next to us had recieved a pizza but no salad that was ordered at the same time the waitress had to tell them these come from diffrent kitchens ... hmm why would the salad take longer. Anyway we eventually gave up after 15 minutes of not being attended to by anyone. I have since seen lots of reports that the food standard has dropped but I can't comment myself as I never got to have any. Additionally I did message them to alert them to my problem however they saw the message and chose not to reply. Not good form at all. read more

This place is great. It probably serves the best pizza in Glasgow, and dare I say it, in the UK. At one stage I was even convinced that it made the best pizza in the world. Although the mural is a little garish, it feels like you've stepped into a cafe in Italy. Suddenly you feel the rain outside disappearing and the chattering around you begins to sound a bit like the Italian singsong. The buzzer device you receive to notify you when your food is ready for collection (the pizza is literally freshly prepared for you. Goodbye pre-prepared and frozen pizza, hello to utter perfection of a perfectly prepared fresh pizza) did throw me and catches me off guard when it starts vibrating every single time, but boy it puts a spring in your step. So far, I have only had the pizzas, but the focaccia's look amazing and so do the other things they have to offer. The only thing I would say however, is that this is definitely a cafe, not a restaurant. If you're grabbing a bite to eat for lunch, then this is the place to go. If you're looking for a long sit-down meal, you ought to go somewhere else (not Tony Macaroni). It is always busy, but you will usually find a seat to squeeze yourself into, and let me tell you, the standard of food will never falter under the number of customers. read more

Bargain alert: for anyone with a Snapfax, it's worth noting that Little Italy have an offer in it where you get a 10" margarita pizza and a can of juice for only £3, what a bargain! I remember the first time I went to Little Italy, it was a rainy day in June and I'd just been to a crystal fair with a friend who's a bit of a regular here, she told me that they do the best hot chocolate ever and she wasn't wrong. The hot choc' here is so sweet and creamy and you get a pretty large mug too. It definitely warmed the cockles of my heart on that chilli day. That was about four year ago and I hadn't been back since, up until a month ago. It was so busy and we had to wait ages for a seat, as it was so busy the whole place was like a furnace and I was feeling flush. I hadn't eaten all day and to be honest, I wasn't in the best of moods. I was starving so ordered a can of Fanta, focaccia and a large slice of banana bread. I couldn't wait for my focaccia, ham with lots of melted mozzarella cheese. When it arrived, I wasn't impressed. Now, I'm a huge fan of black pepper and herbs but this guy wasn't even seasoned, jeesh! Needless to say, I wasn't impressed with my plain Jane focaccia but polished off my banana bread pretty quick. After that I doubted I'd go back to Little Italy, until I saw that too-good-to-resist-offer in Snapfax. I decided that it was probably my foul mood that had made me dislike the focaccia so much and I should give them the benefit of the doubt. Thankfully it was very quiet when I arrived and I was able to get a high seat by the window to do some people watching whilst devouring my pizza. I was so hungry and couldn't wait for the buzzer to ring to alert me that my pizza was ready. So I waited, 5 minutes - no big deal, it will be here any moment. 10 minutes - the guy who came in after me received his order. 15 minutes - same guy was polishing off his soup and sandwich. 20 minutes - still no sign of that darn pizza and soup guy was getting up to leave... then it rang. Finally! I was so hungry that when I sat down I bit straight into the piping hot pizza, no complaints on the taste but it was like 100 degrees! At the time I didn't realise just how hot it was, until I got home and couldn't eat my dinner that night as the roof of my mouth was so burnt. This was a week and a half ago and it's only just getting back to normal, it hurt so bad. I realise that this wasn't completely Little Italy's fault, but still, I had to wait so long I was ready to grab Soup Boys newspaper and eat that instead. All in all, I realise Little Italy is very popular and the pizza is very good I'm not disputing that, but for me, it just seems to be bad news and now whenever I go in it seems to put a great big black storm cloud over the rest of my day. I think it's an omen that I should probably stay away as I'm not too keen to find out what Little Italy has in store for me on my next visit. read more

How can I possibly emphasise how much I love Little Italy? Let me see. When I left Glasgow to travel several years ago, I spent a large percentage of the time thinking about the pizzas in Little Italy. No matter where I went in Asia, Australia or the USA, nothing could compare to those pizzas. When I sampled the famous deep dish pizzas in Chicago, all I could think about was how much better the pizzas in Little Italy were. Little Italy also sells a selection of salads and sandwiches but you would mad to purchase them. If you're looking for delicious, fresh and reasonably priced pizza in the West End, you can't go past Little Italy. While it's small on seating, there is a quick turnover so you shouldn't be waiting long. We popped in for a late afternoon pizza. I got a 10 inch pizza with bolognese and rocket (rucolo) as toppings. The pizza and a drink (can of limonata) came to around £8. You get a buzzer device which will vibrate and flash when your pizza is ready so you can collect it while it's piping hot. They have a huge range of toppings so be sure you'd be able to find something to suit your tastes, and also do pasta, focaccia and calzone. The pizza is exactly what you'd expect from a quality pizzeria - thin, crispy and light, letting the toppings take all the credit for being so tasty. I wouldn't recommend Little Italy if you're looking for a long, lingering meal. Perhaps their sister restaurant (Panevino on Argyle Street is better suited). What can I say? Little Italy is hands down the best pizza in the West End - and quite possibly in the whole of Glasgow. On a rainy cold night, Little Italy is a beacon of warmth and culture - please note their huge replication of the 'God Creates Adam' mural, cleverly adapted to include a lovely cup of Little Italy coffee. Little Italy use a very clever system to tell you when your pizza is ready - and there is a lot to be said for the novelty factor of this. When you order, you're given an electronic "drink mat", which will flash and vibrate violently when your order is ready. Cue a whole lot of poking it furiously while you wait (but no matter how prepared you think you are, you will always be surprised when it goes off). Although you can always count on Little Italy to be busy, you can usually find a perch somewhere, and if not - all food is available to take away. The staff are really friendly, the service is quick, and you can watch the chef make your pizza from scratch. If you're not a fan of pizza (you strange person), Little Italy also offers pasta, baguettes, cakes and hot drinks. Going to Little Italy is in many ways like going home. There are always new places on Byres Road but Little Italy is always there and it's always very good. My most recent visit was on a way to going off to working. Little Italy is a pretty small place, but I was able to get a seat after I made my order. In this particular visit I skipped over the coffee, but it was due to other plans rather than the quality (it is very good). I ordered my pizza, obtained the buzzer and waited for my pizza. It's honestly never a very long wait for the pizza but when I'm hungry it feels like it is. The buzzer went off and I picked up my pizza, with the added bonus of freshly ground black pepper. After many times being here, the pizza is always beautiful. This particular visit's pizza was a 10" pizza with fresh goat's cheese. Everything is just the way it should be in a pizza. The cheese was beautifully melty without being oily. The crust is just as always is. It was a nicely motivating pizza for my upcoming rough day of work. There is only one pizza for me from Little Italy: Parma ham, hot chilli peppers, fresh basil and mozzarella...mmm! Pizza heaven... yay! I often go here as it's close to my flat, and you never have to wait more than 20 minutes for a pizza to be made fresh for you. I don't know what they do to their pizza dough, but it's yummy - not too heavy, not too light. And garlicky. Yum. I really do enjoy a pizza from here, and it's far better than Pizza Hut, or Dominoes. In my first year of university-hood little Italy was by far my bets discovery and to this day I am still stunned by how many of my fellow students ore oblivious to this true gem on Byers Road. It is defiantly Italian, the pizzas are made from scratch and their pasta is very good, as are their coffees. Good is rather an understatement actually, as I shall explain. When you enter after some deliberation choosing from their excellent menu you order from the counter, after ordering they give you a pager. You then wait whilst the chefs make up a fresh pizza to your specified requirements so your pizza has literally just come out of the oven super fresh and they taste superb. Whenever I have any friends who aren't from Glasgow through I usually take them here. The coffee is also ridiculously good and on the wall by the door is a plaque commemorating their chief barista who won a prestigious coffee making award a few years ago, I'm not kidding. If you can get a stool by the left you're in luck as these are the best seats and little Italy is often busy especially between school time finishing and after tea time. I think the pricing is quite cheap, given the freshness of pizzas and if you have a snapfax you really are in luck. Between 8-11am you can indulge in one of their mouth watering cakes accompanied with a coffee for a mere £2. £3 will buy you a pasta or margarita pizza with a can of juice. Toppings are 80p each. The calzone is alsot a good option as you can have any 3 of their fabulous toppings. read more

I was shocked when I went to Little Italy after having read all the great reviews. Its not hard to mess up Pizza but when the pizza you order tastes worst than the frozen kind you can get from Iceland then you somethings off. I was not impressed. I had high hopes and was sorely disappointed. The pizza dough was not fresh made and none of the toppings tasted quality. The pasta they offer in their lunch specials was also pretty bad. I am not sure if this place has changed owners as that may explain the older great reviews but not the current ones. I don't know, it may have been an off day. I really wanted to like this place, I really really did. I've been here a few times now, and still hate it. Hate is a strong word, I dislike it very much. =/ I've tried the pizzas which usually taste like a cardboard frozen pizza. I've gone for the cakes, chocolate (super dry and crumbly) tiramisu (flavorless/dry) and then the coffee! The coffee or at least the espresso is bitter and burnt, I couldn't even drink it. I was in the mood for pizza, two were already devoured this week and I needed to satisfy yet another craving for the good stuff. I was also in the mood for some nostalgia, as this was a favourite place of mine back during my Uni years. Thankfully little has change at Little Italy, except that they have now ditched a lot of produce that used to be sold (pasta, biscotti, sauces etc) and it looks like thay have used the extra space for more seating. Anyway, it took me a while to notice all this as I went straight to the till to order a large peperoni pizza, although a bit salty it was very tasty. The base was especially good, not to thick, not too thin and it had a nice crispness to it with a nice crust also. Another thing, it wasn't too cheesy, again, bonus! Pizza was washed down with a lovely wee Moretti lager and finished off with a surprisingly good wee Espresso. Price wise, not to bad at all, so decent value. Really do like the vibe in here though, it just feels very cosmopolitan. Little Italy is so good and so cheap that its a real shame the cafe isn't four times the size. Orders are placed and paid for at the counter. If you want to sit in, then grab a table before making your order to be on the safe side. They have plenty of other tasty looking foods on offer including hot foccacia sandwiches, pastas and salads, but lets be honest, Little Italy is all about the pizza. Little Italy is a place that I use to frequent when I lived in the West End, many moons, many stone and many pennies ago. It was always a "grab a slice on the way home" place and I pretty much dismissed it as that. Write this down - I was wrong. I'm admitting I was wrong. I was in today for lunch with my girlfriend - who is trying to get it to be known as "Litaly" because all those extra syllables are time consuming, don't you know - and it was fantastic. I had a lasagne. I've not had a non frozen food lasagne that I haven't made for years. Know that scene in Ratatouille where the food critic takes a bit of food and the camera zooms in on his eye, and he starts remembering his childhood and gets a nice warm glow? Well, it was nothing like that. It did taste AMAZING though. With added extra cheese and black pepper, it was brilliant. Wendy had a pasta funghi, and said it was gorgeous. I don't believe a mushroom is a suitable thing to put in your face, so I can't comment. See, that was a joke. Nobody ever accused me of not being a fun guy. FUN GUY! FUNGHI! Sorry. At a reasonable £14 for two dishes and two bottles of water, it's not expensive. I think next time, I'll have to investigate a pizza as well. It is small (I guess the Little part isn't just fancy marketing talk) so it may be tricky to get a seat if needed, so they do takeaway too. I shall return. There's a reason Little Italy is an institution in the West End, you just won't find a better place for quick and tasty Italian food at such decent prices. Offering a great selection of pastas, salads and sandwiches as well as the mandatory pizza (with a wealth of topping options), there's something here for everyone. I'm particularly partial to a pizza with salsiccia and peppers or, if popping in at lunchtime, one of the premade pastas, which are available hot or cold for heating up at home. There's also a great selection of cakes and I've heard the hot chocolate is to die for (really must get round to trying this some day!) If you fancy a wee tipple with your food they also have a good selection of Italian beers and wines by the glass (including prosecco). Staff are friendly and helpful and service is quick. It's always my first choice for a work lunch, especially if I don't have much time to spare. If there's any negative it's that you might find it difficult to get a seat during the lunch or dinner rush, but in the end that speaks volumes about the continuing popularity of the food and service offered! read more

Quick, efficient service, good to sit in and take away, and far far more authentic, filling pizza than Dominos... If only they offered Two for Tuesday too... In celebration of our combined 79 years, two friends and I (along with the rest of the lab) planned to order three 'metres' of pizza to take back to the department and sadly discovered that (for whatever reason) they don't do them anymore. So we got six 16" pizzas instead - the classic bolognaise (messy but tasty), parma ham (mmmm), and mixed vegetables (much to the boys disgust at a pizza that didn't have meat on it). As always, very good pizza, a bargainous £4.50 each for three large slices each and the man who served me was sympathetic to my rather embarassing can't-remember-my-new-pin moment and popped the pizza somewhere warm whilst my friend ran back to the department to get her card. Little Italy make some amazing food at surprisingly low prices considering the quality of it! Selling premade pastas, small snacky pizza slices (that are more like your own tiny pizza than anything else) and some cakes and hot drinks, it's a great place to grab a takeaway. They have an extensive range of toppings for pizzas, the food is well made and fresh, and the staff seem to go all out to make sure you get the best out of your eating experience. If you're on your lunchbreak or fancy a post pub snack, you can sit on one of the stools by the window and watch the world wander past. It's open till eleven most nights and is great if you're looking for a quality takeaway pizza for dinner. You would expect it to be expensive, considering the high standard of the food. It is in fact relatively cheap, especially considering its prime location in the west end's main thoroughfaire. Warm, cosy and comforting, it's been around for as long as I remember. I love Little Italy! This casual little Italian café on Byres Road is a west end institution and a great place to go for pizza (they do pasta too but I've never tried it as I always go back for the pizza!). Lots of delicious toppings to choose from (I usually go for mushrooms, black olives and hot hot hot jalapenos - nom!) and you can order your pizza by the (square) slice or full pizza of varying sizes depending on how hungry you are. I usually prefer thin and crispy style bases but the base here is a little bit more substantial, crisp and with a good bite to it. I'd recommend a San Pellegrino Limonata to wash it down with - great combo! It's a small place and is often packed though so you might struggle to find a seat at busy times. The pizzas in here are to die for! Lovely thin Italian pizzas with a whole manor of toppings to choose from. The pizzas are always cooked extremely well, and are quick to come to the table. You are given a device and when that buzzes your food is really and can then collect from the counter. This place is rather small so can sometimes to be difficult to get a table. They also do lots of teas and coffees, Italian juices, Italian cakes and pasta for those who maybe don't want pizza. Overall, a great place to come when wanting a decent pizza in the west end. I can't believe this was my first visit here! (and I can't believe Yelp doesn't let us give half stars! This is a definite 4.5 out of 5 kinda place!) I had a hankering for pizza and had heard consistently good things about Little Italy, so we wandered over with the hopes of getting a seat. You choose your own pizza toppings, and size, so it was with no small amount of hunger that I sat down, buzzer in hand, and waited on my 10" pepperoni, chicken, onion and sweetcorn pizza. A cold beer passed the time and soon the buzzer told me my pizza was ready, as was the pasta that Clare had ordered. It was delicious! Sweet tomato sauce, a nice peppery kick from the pepperoni, and the tender chunks of chicken were nicely browned. It's at times like these I wonder why I keep ordering from Dominos (because I'm lazy, being the answer). Stepping into Little Italy feels like a step back in time, but in a good way. It's a cosy space, you are greeted with a warm smile, and the staff don't constantly bother you. It's always busy, and I can see why given the range of foods they have, not to mention the location. Only downside for me was trying to attract someone to get a bill! Three times I made direct contact with a waitress who was standing at the back chatting, and not once did she move. Popped into Little Italy last night for a study break from the library, and I was not disapointed! I ordered a 12" Salciccia pizza and oh what a delight it was! My little pager buzzed just in time and I hopped up off my chair to collect my pizza. And there it was, sitting all lovely and whatnot! The Salciccia was cut chunky and the sauaseage was so tasty! The little restaurant has a great buzz about it and never seems to be quiet, with people enjoying pizza, coffee or some of the scrummy cakes peering out from a chilled cabinet. The service is fast and effective but they are busy so don't expect a long chat about what's in the base sauce! Little heads up, a slice is 2.75. Pretty steep I thought but I am used to the 2 dollar slice across the pond! The coffee is really good in here and if you're looking for something a bit different get the BonBon - condensed milk, hot chocolate and a shot of espresso. Marvellous! read more

Went in here for breakfast today. Well when I say went, I was guided like a zombie towards it by my better half as he could see I wasn't going to make it to work without a serious caffeine boost. Nice traditional Italian eaterie. Can't comment on the pizza or extensive menu. The cakes behind the glass counter looked delicious. My black americano coffee was delicious and perfect - just the right size (ie. not a huge vessel that is impossible to finish) for a quick stop. I ordered toast too (seeing someone else tucking in to some!) and it was great. None of your doughy square white sliced, this was beautiful Italian bread in thick slices just toasted on the grill with butter and marmalade. Perfect and uncomplicated. I will definitely be returning for breakfast. Reasonably priced too - which is more than can be said for rival Byres Road cafes !! read more

I can admire a place that has simplicity at its heart while being delicious. Add a dash of authenticity and sniff of wood fired oven pizzazz and you have an immediate happy place. The place is on the smaller side but always bustling with satisfied regulars. It's scrumptious pizza, tending to be on the doughy side rather than the paper thin NY sort. Nevertheless, it balances the scale for good pizza places in the West end to the ones available in city centre. A range of fresh toppings with various Italian meats offered, makes it hard to tire of their pies. All the while taking their orders and executing them with methodical urgency, its no wonder this place will not fail to attract customers. A piece of Little Italy goes a long way. read more

Lively Byres Road pizzeria with high turnover of customers and low elbow room. Operates as much as a takeaway as a place to enjoy a meal. A small welcoming Italian restaurant/coffee shop. I would say that the restaurant seating is more suitable for coffee rather than food as the tables are small and the seating quite compact. The restaurant has an authentic Italian feel and this is replicated in the food. The handmade pizzas are great value for money and are freshly prepared. We just popped in here for a takeaway pizza for lunch. However, it deserves a review. The pizza was excellent- just the right depth, excellent flavours, and a good size for the price as well. The interior is decorated very nicely, with a very Italian theme running through (unsurprisingly). I particularly liked seeing pannetone dotted around the room. Between the two of us, we ordered a small pizza for takeaway, and it proved to be plenty large enough for a lunch. The staff were friendly in this clearly very popular place. The only negative I can think of is that this popularity means food takes a little longer than I'd like to be served. After ordering, you are given a buzzer thing which alerts you when the food is ready. I felt a little awkward standing around inside the busy restaurant waiting for my pizza, but when it came, it was excellent. Will be back. read more

We stopped in for lunch on a sunny afternoon before doing a little sightseeing and their pizza really hit the spot. It wasn't the best pizza I've ever had, or even in the top 10 of pizzas I've ever had, but I'm from Chicago and we have a LOT of good pizza. The important thing is it hit the spot that day and their outdoor seating along Byres Road was the perfect spot for a little mid-afternoon people watching! read more

The best pizzas in the city by a country mile, Little Italy is perhaps Byres Road's safest business. Popular with people of all ages, this place is busy at all times of day and space is particularly limited at the weekend. While there are informal seating areas available, most simply take their pizza away and thankfully the electronic buzzer system means you can nip next door to Tennent's for a pint while you wait. I particularly recommend the humble pepperoni pizza but I've never had a bad meal out of here. There are also excellent pasta dishes and sandwiches, and I've been assured the coffee here is second to none in the area. read more

we were hungry, and compared to the empty italian restaurant next door, this place seemed to be extremely busy. after looking at the menu posted above the cashier, it's evident why. A great selection of pasta, sandwiches, pizza and beverages at a pretty cheap price. They also have great hours too (opens at 8am) and a nice patio outside to sit. I was so happy to see that they have freshly squeezed orange juice as well. My pasta al forno was deliciously baked but heavy on the cream and the gnocchis were a bit dense. The pizza was mediocre. If i were strolling down Byres Street on a Sunday afternoon, wanting some casual italian food, and great atmosphere, I would definitely pop in. read more

This place was an absolute staple for me during exam time a few years ago, almost daily appearances were made! Little italy is probably the best place to head to on Byres Road if you're wanting a coffee or a quick bite to eat. Seating is on the short side, but turnaround is very quick so you won't be waiting for long. Little Italy sells various items like pasta (carbonara is a personal favourite), coffee and cakes, but the main item on show is the pizza. All the pizzas are prepared freshly in front of you, with a variety of toppings. A standard 10" with a few toppings and a drink comes to around £8-9 so the value is very good. When you order you recieve a buzzer which will go off when your pizza is ready, adding to the quick turnaround. The pizzas themself are one of the best in the area, with a nice tasty choice of toppings. My only complaint is the cheese used isn't the greatest. Another plus to Little Italy is that it's also takeaway. Ideal when you're studying across the road! read more

It's been here for years, and is the kind of place that will always get given 5 stars. Little Italy is a bit of an institution, and there are few better ways to spend a lunchtime than sitting at the bar, waiting on the peculiar buzzer thing to go off so you know your parma ham focaccia is ready The food is top notch and while I've never been to Italy the consensus among those who have seems to suggest it's pretty authentic. With what can best be described as "Italian stuff" adorning the walls and fancy pastas / oils for sale, it also gets the atmosphere just right. It's also the kind of place you don't look weird sitting yourself, so even the socially awkward can enjoy it. I've never actually had a cake from here but they look bloody brilliant, and probably are if the quality of everything else is to go by. One of the best places around for a quick lunch stop. read more
