This is not a school where they 'train' kids to be super smart from early age- They believe children thrive and learn best when their interests are captured.- so kids have fun doing something they love, learn to share, do lots of activities together, celebrate both Japanese and western traditions- Teachers & staff are so nice and helpful. The school has a big gym and outside area to play, Do only japanese kids go there? not at all! more than half of his classmates are either non-Japanese or half Japanese-. So whenever they send out newsletters or have Christmas party or other parties, they conduct in both Japanese and English, super helpful! I love when they have charity parties- kids (and teachers & volunteers) make cute stuff and sell them like your kid's picture in christmas frame or bubble bath bombs etc.. Another cool event is that twice a year, they have Bazaar and their foods are amazing. All handmade and cooked by kitchen stuff and volunteers but they make amazing Japanese foods that I couldn't believe when I went there for the first time- ( and it's open to public too!) I was expecting some sushis, teriyaki chicken, udons.. those typical japanese stuff, and of course they have those, but on top of them they have Matsutake rice ! ( for fall ) Kyoto style wrapped sushi, amazing variety of Mochi-es, handroll sushi, etc. etc.. you just have to go there to believe it! Regular updates on our phones and email, communication on events or disruptions. These owners have started sending pictures of each kid doing an activity to their parents every day's. They email the menu for the week to all the parents. Besides the new owners being great, the place was already stellar. The meals are made on-site by a chef. No chef-boy-r-dee garbage from a can like other places. The food is cooked from scratch and made fresh daily. The kids get great meals everyday. They have the chef come by each classroom once a week and the kids make their own foods as well. This is the meal plan for this Monday as an example Morning snack : rise and shine veggie hash, served with milk and fresh fruit Lunch : beef (or tofu) and broccoli stir fry, served over wild rice Afternoon snack : carrot banana flax muffins, served with veggies and dip The location is right on the highway exit so you can drop off and get directly onto to the highway. Early dropoff @ 7am pickup @5pm no extra charge. They occasionally have date nights so parents can drop off their kids and enjoy a night together (i believe they charge 10 dollars for the evening which is very reasonable) The curriculum is amazing, very focused on the kids learning new things and having a wonder to the process. The teachers all take the time to focus on your child. Teachers know your kid even if they aren't in that teachers class. Learning is very hands on. There is an emphasis on physical activity and the playground is well equipped. We were worried initially but our kid,loved it there and has been there since 1 year old till 4 years old. All the kids are very well mannered and you can see that they are taught to be gracious to each other. Great place, the cost is a bit higher but in line with what you get in return. Teachers that are engaged with your child, fresh nutritious meals, extended hours, daily updates on your phone, web cam to peek I'm on your child in the day, amazing facility, playground and a vested interest in your child's well being. Love this place, hope the rest of my kids schools are even half as good.

I am disgusted with Harbourside's policy regarding refunds…read more My husband's company moved so we could no longer enroll our child at this daycare as it was now out of our way considerably. I gave more than 3 months notice (closer to 6 months), and we hadn't even started attending this daycare. The director suggested that I could have my deposit refunded once someone else took our spot, but did not put this in writing or clarify any stipulations. I did not think this would be a problem as they have a long waitlist, and I waited almost a year myself to get in. When I inquired about our refund later, the director was patronizing and re-emphasized that they do not refund deposits and she wasn't doing anything illegal. I was out $900 ($150 admin + 1/2 the first month). I understand I signed a contract, but this is distasteful behaviour and it's wrong. I was made to feel like I was trying to rip off this daycare. In retrospect I should have asked for anything we discussed to be put in writing, but I was putting my faith in the Director who seemed like a nice lady in all the times I interacted with her. I had endorsed this daycare before I even attended it based on my visits and interactions. I can't speak to their care, but I would caution parents who are considering this daycare to read their agreement carefully and consider other daycares that seem less mercenary in their refund policy, and charge a more reasonable deposit fee. A lot of us are new to and anxious about enrolling our children into daycare because it's so stressful and it's such an ordeal to find a good one. But please learn from my mistake and don't be out money better spent on your child. I feel embarrassed that I am out this much money but I feel this was important to share.

The only problem is getting in - like most Vancouver daycares there are long waitlists. We had her on since I was first pregnant.
