As a new mom, it was really important to me to find a daycare that met all my expectations. Sure, I have high expectations, but they certainly aren't unreasonable and I'm sure any mom would agree. Little Mouse playhouse was the first place my husband and I toured. I had heard something good about it so off we went. It's tucked away beside the Target off Lawndale Rd. The daycare is an older style house made into a daycare center. As so, the driveway is as wide as a regular house driveway. This was an issue the moment we pulled in. Another car was leaving, and there's no where to pull to the side because of the wall or the dumpster. Since we couldn't back up into the middle of Lawndale, the other car backed up instead. We rounded the corner and parked in the lot, and then had no idea where to go. There was the main house and then a smaller building on the opposite side. I opted for the house and entered into the back door (or front door, not sure). I called out because I didn't see anyone but didn't get an answer. I walked through the house to a room full of kids. When I say full, I mean packed. It seemed like way too many kids for the room. I stood there for several minutes looking for someone before a teacher noticed me. She directed me to the other building. This was red flag #1. Anyone can walk in there and just walk into a classroom and no one noticed. When I walked out I met my husband outside who was looking up. Up at the roof. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned off in decades. There were bees flying around the entrance and frankly the area was not kept up. Ants were crawling all over the ground. Not exactly what you want to see when you know your child will be all over that ground soon. We walked to the smaller building where the younger kids were, though reluctantly at that point. Upon entering, a teacher was sitting in the classroom with a few children...and her boyfriend. Red flag #2. She pointed to the infant room a few feet away and the room had one of those doors where the top and bottom open and close independently of another. The top was open and I peer into the room briefly. The room was extremely clean and large. But what I noticed instead was a teacher sitting on a mat beside a baby doing tummy time. For those of you who don't know, tummy time should never be left unattended to, especially at younger stages. The teacher was a young lady with her cell phone in hand, scrolling through her Facebook. That did it for me. Even though we spoke to the other teacher in the room, who was professional and friendly, I had already made up my mind. I have had kids at Little Mouse Playhouse for a total of 10 years. The staff are so caring and loving that my 10 year old daughter loves to visit. They are more like a second family. The kids are well taken care of and behavior and learning needs are individualized. I wouldn't imagine taking my children anywhere else. Is the building new? No. Are there bugs on the ground? Yes no more than in your own yard I'm sure. But the kids are loved, safe and well taken care of. I am a pediatric nurse so I am picky about who takes care of my kids and Little Mouse has more than continued to exceed my expectations. read more

Little Mouse Playhouse is a hidden gem. I received my recommendation from a friend's godmother, who is a state surveyor for daycares. I now have two children there. Both of my kids started at 12-13 weeks old and are now 4 and 21 months old. My friend shared that it doesn't have the bells and whistles that the newer places have, but she assured me I would quickly find that the people are what makes the difference. I can honestly say, they love my children as their own. Neither one of my children have cried or asked that I do not leave them. That means a lot to a working mom. I know the hands I leave them with are those of love, compassion and competence. My son counts his teachers as his best friends. It is more than a daycare. It is a family. They love more than just the kids, they love us parents and extended family too. Because of them, my children have a foundation of education that will last a lifetime. read more

We have been with Little Mouse since 2014 and have loved our experience. The staff is caring and will always listen and answer questions. My son and daughter enjoyed every day there. It has a small, family feel to it and the kids get a wonderful balance of education and play (love their playground). I cannot say enough glowing things about this place. My son started here when he was 5 months old and from the beginning, the teachers and staff have taken the best care of my precious boy. I went back to work full time after having my son, and he was happy here the entire year. When I got pregnant with my daughter, we decided I should stay at home, but we kept our son in part time daycare here because he loved it so much. When I pick him up early, he is sad to leave. Sometimes when we pick him up even at 5pm, he doesn't want to leave yet because he's having so much fun with the teachers and playmates. I have never walked in and seen any staff not paying the utmost attention to all the children here. I was a teacher, so I am well aware of quality childcare when I see it. At 18 months, my son knew all his colors, and now in the 2 year old classroom, he is already learning many of his letters and numbers. He is not even two and a half yet. This place is amazing. Our daughter (5months) started in the infant room for part time as well. When I had her Little Mouse sent us home with a delicious home cooked meal and lots of love. I am currently facing a difficult time where I need surgery and I am not physically able to keep up with my 2 year old and 5 month old very easily at all. We are relying more heavily on Little Mouse during this time while I recover. I am grateful beyond words for the staff at Little Mouse. I would recommend them to anyone, and after extensive research and word of mouth, I have never heard a bad word or comment made about this place from anyone (past or present) who has sent their children there. Another reviewer thought that some of the staff were on their phones, but I believe this is a misrepresentation. The teachers text me pictures of my children periodically and also text me to check in if my children have been sick and absent etc. Cell phone use does not always mean that someone is not working hard or paying attention. It's actually quite the opposite-- they are great communicators with the parents, which is very important to me. This place is tops in my book. They go above and beyond the call of duty every day. There are never too many children in a room either. At the start of the day and end of the day, all children are gathered in one room for pick up and drop off, but during the day they are all off playing in little groups. If you're nervous about childcare for your children, this is a place you can turn to for excellent care and love for them while you return to work. read more

I grew up hearing about Little Mouse Playhouse from all of my cousins (they are now grown). Three of them went there and all of them LOVED it. A few of the teachers are still there that taught them (very low turnover rate). I now have a boy who attended and a little girl who is still there. I don't live in town so it's a drive for me every day but there is no where else I would trust my children to stay. A lot of the other places have all the fancy bells and whistles but none of that stuff matters if the people taking care of your kids aren't top notch. They cook meals for the kids, pray over those meals, and work hard teaching them life skills while making it fun. My son (who is now 9) had high anxiety but the teachers at Little Mouse worked with him to overcome his fears and when I took him to kindergarten he said "I got this mom!" and walked into the classroom without a fear. They really care about children there and the playground is probably one of the best parts. It's huge....with big shade trees. My son always wants to go with me to pick up his younger sister now. He loves going back to see his teachers and give them a hug. Oh and being a new mom (when my son was born) is stressful enough. You question everything you're doing. So...when my son developed a spot on him that no doctor could diagnose the teachers at Little Mouse figured it out and we were finally able to treat it. I had to take him to the emergency room several times because it would bleed and wouldn't stop. Very scary. This place cares and if you have an infant you need to send them to Ms Joyce. She will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart for all the help she was when my son was an infant. She is one of those people that has a humongous heart and a very gentle spirit. The babies love her (and I do too). Funny story...I shared with her that was nervous to feed my son solid foods (you always think they're going to choke). She said she had been feeding him mashed potatoes and green beans for the past few weeks and showed me how well he did. He hasn't stopped eating since!! But it just shows you the level of support you get when you have someone there who truly is an expert and can help you navigate these tough waters called parenthood. read more
