I had heard promising things from this place, so when I was visiting, I made a reservation for their Sunday brunch. Overall, I was pretty disappointed, sadly. The space is small with only about 6 tables and a bar. We had made reservations on Sunday; others who hadn't were told there was a little over an hour wait around 11 AM. They were punctual in seating us at our reservation time, and the staff was overall friendly, which is honestly one of the only reasons I gave two stars invested of one. The barista/our server seemed to be new and spilled coffee on one of our phones--not a great start to the meal. I ordered a horchata latte, which was probably one of the best items we ordered. The added cinnamon on top was a little strong, but overall, it was good. To start, we had a horchata cinnamon roll, which was more like a pull apart bun and was overall very, very dry. We ordered the mushroom melt and the loaded potato skillet for entrees. The mushroom melt came on a bread that was almost like a crispy, buttery pastry (the bread/pastry was only other thing we liked about the meal other than the coffee). The potatoes were mostly just soggy home fries with what I'm guessing was smoked paprika in the sauce that was very heavy in the smoked department--it almost tasted burnt. And the skillet was supposed to include chorizo, but it seemed like the kitchen forgot that part. Again, I've heard really great things about this place, so maybe we caught them on an off day or maybe we just didn't order the best items. From what I had though, I don't know that I'd be interested in returning. read more

The owner was extremely rude to me. We made a reservation for 4 but needed to change it to 3. I called three hours before our reservation to let them know, and the person who answered said, "OK, no problem, thanks." When we arrived, we were sat at the counter "until our table was ready." That never happened. When I expressed my frustration at the miscommunication the owner said they could charge me a $25 fee for "canceling" the fourth person. I explained that I hadn't canceled -- I simply adjusted the reservation (and gave them several hours' notice). Instead of just acknowledging the misunderstanding, she condescendingly offered to "go over the Resy policy" with me and threatened to impose a fee. Then she stormed off, and she and the staff ignored my party for the rest of the visit. A simple apology and clarification would have gone a long way, but instead, the attitude was dismissive and hostile. Reading other one-star reviews, I see many others base their reviews on how rude this owner is, which is only reinforced by the owner's snarky and condescending responses to bad reviews (it's a bad look, girl!). As a Latina business owner myself, I understand how challenging running a business can be. I came here for brunch and my absolute favorite was the mofongo benedicts. A creative dish that definitely paid out - the base is a crispy version of a mofongo, is has pernil (pork) on top, caramelized onions and the egg. The egg wasn't runny but the achiote hollandaise was out of this world. All flavors complemented each other and it was a perfectly balanced dish. The cubano on brioche was very good as well, but if you are going with a sandwich I'd recommend the Mallorca Breakfast Sandwich! It's like a Croque Madame with a sweet bread. Not sure how someone can mess up scramble eggs, potatoes, and toast so horribly and still charge $24 for that. If you think you can cover it in ketchup to soothe the taste, they don't have any. It is a stain on our past wonderful experiences with puerto rican/hispanic food. Truthfully, we've should have seen the red flags with the rules for patrons and employees written everywhere and having to provide a phone number to be seated On one positive note, the horchata coffee was great, but unfortunately we both left nauseous and $60 out for 2 inedible meals and a coffee. I've been here a few times and the food is consistently amazing! When they used to serve tapas on weekend nights, they were sooo good, and I really enjoyed the brunch I had there recently. Can't go wrong with the deluxe breakfast and a passion fruit mimosa; the dulce de leche french toast is great too if you like a sweet breakfast. This is my review on the things I got: - Cuban empanada, it was served room temperature. Most places that sell empanadas keep them warm. In a warming bin, under a heat lamp or in the oven. That was a disappointment...and I have eaten probably over 1,000 empanadas in my life.... - Brazo gitano, it was very good. Moist, tasty and light. A delight. A bit small, about an inch or inch and a half thick at best. - Mallorca, it was very dry in the middle. Other Mallorcas I've had in Puerto Rico have been sweet, soft and supple. They were flaky. When we arrived sweet Chef Milena was at the door welcoming and sitting the customers. We had reserved counter so we were seated by her and was given the menu and explained how you the place the full order at once. We had 2 cappuccinos, a raspberry/passion fruit cake that the texture is of a corn bread and was excellent and also we had the alfajores, those were out of this world! I ordered the Mallorca breakfast sandwich and hubby had the Cubano on brioche and both were outstanding, we got them with potatoes but you can have salad instead, the potatoes have a spicy sauce that was so good. Service was excellent, dishes came out pretty fast and our experience was very pleasant and eager to come back. We drove an hour just to visit this little gem in Rhody. According to the official Michelin guide definition, a three-star restaurant is awarded to "exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey." If that's the case, Little Sister is deserving of not only that, but also a fourth-star for "bringing a former yelp-er out of retirement to write one more review." On our way to Maine, we were driving through Rhode Island in the early evening and wanted a proper dinner somewhere unique. In a sea of Cracker Barrels and Dunkin Donuts / Sunoco collaborations, Little Sister was a glimmering gem that beckoned us to make a detour into the city. We started with sangrias to soothe our nerves after two hours of Connecticut traffic. The flavors were unconventional and refreshing (lychee & raspberry was our favorite) and we all felt like we could drink an entire carafe ourselves (conservatively). We ordered an assortment of dishes, but my personal favorite was something I had never tried before: solluritos (crispy polenta + cheese). On top of being delicious, they were PERFECTLY cylindrical... and above all else, I am a lover of clean edges. They should sell the recipe to Kraft Heinz and make a billion dollars. Was taking an afternoon flight out of Providence airport and was looking for a hidden gem for brunch in Providence to get a sense of the often talked about foodie scene and some good grub before my flight. I was so excited to score a brunch reservation at Little Sister as it was only very shortly after owner and chef Milena Pagan was named a James Beard semifinalist. This is a small, lovely spot, so reservations are a MUST. When you enter the restaurant, your nosebuds are assaulted in the best possible way with delightful smells and spices. The kitchen is close to the front door and the amazing scents draw you into the space as you start to salivate and get hungrier. The day we went was Brown University's parents' weekend, so they were admittedly out of some things. However, that didn't deter us from truly enjoying brunch and our overall experience at Little Sister. I had the Savory Galette without the Sunny Egg (I'm not an egg eater) and it was perfectly filled with tomato and goat cheese. The flavors were a nice blend and the Galette crust was flaky, buttery goodness. It came with a side salad, which had a flavorful vinaigrette on it. I stole a bite of my friend's Dulce de Leche French Toast, which was rich and yummy. We also split a classic quesito, which was clearly baked with love. What an awesome new addition to Hope Street. I was lucky enough to sneak in a few times before they officially opened. It is easy to say that I am addicted. Everything I have had has been great, but a couple of items really stick out to me. The potatoes are insane! I have gotten these every single time I have been there. I dream about these. Then they added the option to add an egg and then the world shook. The flavor of the potatoes with the addition of the bravas sauce adds a flavor that I haven't had the opportunity to experience before. GET THE POTATOES!!! First experience with little sister and it will be my last. I placed an order $54.30 just few pastry and Mallorcas and empanadas,after order was placed when I was on the way there I was called and told that they were having website "count" issues and the items that I already paid for were no longer available. So then I was offered to go get mediocre Mallorca the next day which I live 35 minutes away and had a sick child so didn't make it there again. I get a call at 4:00 .... 2 hours after the place had closed from a Very rude girl named Andrea stating that the mallorcas were held for me which I was never told and I could not get a refund. probably the worst experience with a restaurant I have ever had. So this place has been in my neighborhood for a while and I regret not getting there sooner. They are only open a few days a week and reservations are highly recommended. The owner, who also owns Rebelle Bagels, has put together a brunch menu that represents her roots. We shared some pastries and had a salad and French toast. I don't know where to begin with this review, so sorry if it's all over the place. Reservation/arrival: website states that you must be on time, as you will only have 1 hour and then you will need to leave. We were 5 minutes early, and sat 10 minutes late and then our order was not taken for another 10 minutes. The food came out quickly and we were out 1 hour after our reservation, but we were worried. While sitting there, we heard the servers talking about how they don't kick people out because they're still eating and they feel bad. The system needs an overhaul -- the reservation should not only be an hour. Food there: great! I had the mushroom melt with an egg and it was perfect. By that I mean there was egg everywhere once I squeezed the sandwich. Food at home: we ordered empanadas to go. I asked for 5 of xyz. My friend ordered 5 xyz. I'm vegetarian, she's not. We then got a box of them all mixed together, and could have separated them, but there was no indication of which was which. This caused chaos when we asked, with one server (who did not take our order) say that we should have been clear about the separate orders. Why can't they look different based on the filling? I've seen this at other places, and they do different shapes here. It's also not the point of me being vegetarian or not in the end -- what if I thought I was eating the breakfast one, take a bite, and get potato and pepper. All this drama, and, they were bland. This place made my trip to PVD! I had not been to Providence in years and frankly didn't know there was anything interesting to eat in the area ‍. Turns out the whole neighborhood was super cute and relaxed for small shops and unique restos. We've been trying to get to this place for a while. We ordered coffee, gave us a smidge of milk so we needed to ask for more and they only had sugar. We ordered empanadas because they seem to be very popular. Unfortunately the chicken Verdi, was so salty it overpowered the empanada. The beef empanada was better but way too much salt. Plus, we waited 15 minutes for them to be heated and they were still pretty much room temperature. When I asked for cutlery it seemed to be a strange request. How can you stir coffee without a spoon? Our deal breaker was that I had to lay napkins in the counter because it was so sticky. The bathroom is spotless so we're going to assume the kitchen is very clean. read more

Visited little sister on a Saturday morning for the first time for a special occasion brunch. Everything was homemade and packed with flavor! I had read that it was a Puerto Rican inspired restaurant and was very excited to try it! The food and drinks really lived up to represent the vibrant Puerto Rican culture, including the interior of the restaurant, which popped with bright bold colors. The different juices were made fresh with guava, pineapple, mango, and a few other different fruits for delicious Mimosas. The wide variety of food and coffee options is hard to beat. They have the standards but also a large number of unique Puerto Rican dishes/coffees. For example, I had an horchata latte. The patrons all love the place enough that was also a really friendly vibe. Some patrons come often enough that the people who work there know them.
