I have never had a bad experience in this kebab shop. The worst thing that has ever happened is…read morethat I can taste the onions for day but personally I think that is often the sign of a great kebab. Expect to queue and expect to be delighted. After a hard night on the sauce this is the place to go in Newtownards. The hardworking team have to put up with a lot because as far as I can tell the majority of their customers are drunk. I always order the same thing donor kebab with all the salad trimmings on pitta bread and chips - gorgeous! and really reasonably priced. I always seem to have enough coins left for one after a night out. The food is delicious, they have a massive selection and it is all made there in front of your eyes. The place is clean and the poor guys working behind the counter take the drunken antics with a good heart. When we lived abroad we often chatted about Lahores and how we missed it. I don't go there often anymore as I am trying to be good for my wedding but when I do go it's always a delight. YUMMY!

I had a bad experience with Piccolos recently…read more My fiance was returning from a long journey and I had said that I would order him in what ever he wanted as a treat. He is very nostalgic about his home town and was keen to try a pizza place he used to go to in his youth. There are several Piccolos pizzas around Northern Ireland and they have a good reputation so I thought nothing of ordering two pizzas to be delivered to the door for 7pm. My fiance was home, the house was tidy, the beer was poured and he was starving but 7pm came and went. I rang up and was told they were on their way. 7.30pm came and went I rang again - they are on their way madam. 8pm no pizza, 8.15 the pizzas arrived - cold and swimming in grease we had to bin them. A furious letter of complaint was written and we received two free pizzas which we have yet to claim - I don't think we will be back at Piccolos but as I always say, maybe they were having a bad day, short staffed or some other reason. I'm sure they haven't gained their good reputation for nothing.
Shaw's Home Bakery is an independent business and makes a real change from the traditional bakeries…read morescattered throughout the town. In a prime location, this has to be the town's most innovative bakery- selling a variety of breads including Guinness wheaten and Mediterranean loaves. There is also a wide range of (rather unusual) scones to buy, with everything from your ordinary fruit scone, to flavours such as Cadbury's crunchie and raspberry ripple. I am personally a big fan of the Snickers- flavoured scone, as the chocolate and caramel just melt in your mouth. Shaw's also makes a real effort to follow baking trends, creating an array of delicious delights such as cupcakes and whoopee pies. The bakery also provides a daily supply of 'Paddy's pizzas' (a famous Northern Irish snack consisting of soda bread with a pizza topping) along with sausage rolls and other pastries. At lunchtime, Shaw's sells an assortment of sandwiches and you can also buy a meal deal (consisting of a sandwich, cookie and drink) for less than £3.

When I was working in Newtownards, one of the girls recommended this chippie to me. Her comment to…read moreme was something along the lines of "you'll always get good chips in Broadway". And how right she was. It's one of those chip shops which don't look like much from the outside, but with this place, it's the inside that counts. Located on the end of Pound Street, Broadway is Newtownards hidden gem. I love that it's called Broadway, symbolising the highest earning and most commericial theatre-land in the world, and it's located on Pound Street. Excellent. It actually does kinda represent the quality of the food, juxatposed with bargainous prices. The chips are always cooked to perfection, and they do these great mini pizzas too. A 7" plain cheese and tomato pizza, without toppings, is £1.60...an absolute bargain! And it's really, really tasty. If you fancy a 10" pizzas, or toppings, they're on the menu too. The only problem I have with Broadway is that it's opening hours are limited, as its business is mainly done during the day time. The only opens until 7pm (unfortunately), but it's really such a cracking wee chippie, I can't complain too much.

Terrible x3 = do not come here. We wanted to eat at Harry's Shack, but they were booked solid. So,…read moreour B&B host recommended Amici being so close and we wanted to get in an early dinner. The place was packed even though they had just opened at 5 pm. We had the "prawn" appetizer which consisted of 5 dinky shrimp swimming in oil, oh and the smallest slice of bread I'd ever seen. The app came out fast... however, the server just a quickly wanted to take it away even though there were still prawns in the dish. Then, we proceeded to wait 45 mins for the main courses. The seafood pasta was bland and had this terrible fish they claimed to be monkfish. Having had good monkfish, this would turn anyone off of trying it again. We were duped by the "woodfired" pizza, which was barely cooked through and just boring and bland. The only redeeming dish was the sea bass, which was actually cooked well, but still not super flavorful. So, all in all, only come here if you are desperate, have low expectations and aren't in a hurry.
