After going through what I can only describe as a mild-to-moderate existential crisis in 2023, my…read moretherapist suggested I "get a hobby", which felt like a polite way of saying, "You need something joyful in your life, please." Since music was such a big part of my childhood, I decided to see if adults were still allowed to sing anywhere besides their cars. A quick Google search brought up OC Sound Chorus, and it instantly felt like the sign I didn't know I was waiting for. I reached out and was warmly welcomed by Megan, who gave me all the information I needed for my first rehearsal. That first day was a blur. Joyce gave me a voice test and I ended up in the baritone section. The section with all the sass and none of the spotlight (perfect for me). Then I was greeted by a room full of wonderful, funny, supportive women who made me feel like I had walked into a reunion instead of a rehearsal. We started singing through the holiday repertoire, and honestly, I was shocked at how much fun I was having. But the moment that really stuck with me was the last song of the night, "How We Sang Today." We stood in a circle, held hands like some wholesome musical coven, and as the chords rang out, I felt tears prickling at my eyes. Actual tears. From singing. With strangers. I walked out thinking, "Yeah... I'm coming back." And I've been coming every week for the past 2 years. TLDR: I love this chorus, I love these humans, and yes, 10/10 would absolutely recommend.
