The people that leave bad reviews and go on to tell us all who they have worked for and how great they think of themselves need to focus on their live before judging others. NOW, Live Oak is a wonderful, professional, place to have in our community. Ms Sue is AMAZING and a life-saver! I bought my wedding dress online (we planned our wedding in 4 weeks over the holidays) and I needed some tailoring while I was staying with family in Columbus during the week and a half leading up to the big day. I took it to Live Oak a couple of days before Christmas, and she was willing to take it in and do some fancy work to tighten up the sleeves on short notice. I picked it up a week later (UNHEARD of for this kind of work, and over the holiday no less!) and it was BEAUTIFUL. I am so grateful for her working overtime for me - she made a cheap-o online purchase look like a million bucks, and we couldn't have been more grateful! I called the establishment and the lady was very rude. She got annoyed instantly when I was trying to ask her about her turn-around time when tailoring suits, saying "I don't like when customers ask questions like that". Well, I'm sorry, how should I ask then? I told her when I needed the suit by (two weeks), only for her to hang up on me. Just terrible customer service and if your used to dealing with proper establishments with patience and manners, I would recommend calling a legit location. Save yourself the trouble. read more

I've had several items altered here over the years, from my daughter's prom dresses to many of my pieces. Sue does an amazing job!!!

Sue is such a genuine person and her work is always on point! I have taken gowns/dresses and each time she never ceases to amaze me! She is meticulous when working on delicate fabrics. As I read some of the negative comments I can't seem to wonder what was their particular part in the whole interaction that they took responsibility for... the crazy thing is that they blamed Ms. Sue when in reality those people didn't take ownership for forgetting their clothing or because they didn't communicate effectively themselves. I personally have been coming to see Ms. Sue for years and even brought my elderly mother there and have always been treated with dignity and respect! She is assertive and honest but some people can be overly sensitive (if that is you - then you might want to go somewhere else). If you think her prices are high then why not just go somewhere else and take your chances with their work? Don't be mad because she knows her worth and expects nothing less! If you can understand that then you will know that you pay for you get and Ms. Sue's skills are reflective of that! read more

So i had a pair of pants and a romper that had a big hole in one of them and a rip in the other. The lady gave me my quote and I tried to pay with card but it was declined. I told her I would go to the ATM and use cash. She said "ok". It literally took me ten minutes to go to the gas station and back and by the time I came back she had both of my clothes done already. I have been going to Sue for approximately two years as she does a great job on alterations. While she can be pricey, I didn't have too much of an issue until recently. I dropped off two formal dresses (one to be hemmed, the other hemmed and taken in in the back). She charged me $86 EACH to hem the dresses, and $66 to take one in some!! I spoke on the price then, and she took off $20 (really). Anyway, she tells me the dresses will be ready on Friday (a week later). No problem, as my event was Saturday. She called me on that Friday to ask if I could pick the dresses up on Monday cause she was swamp. I said no, my event is tomorrow. So she said they would be ready an hour before she closed on Saturday. I pick the dresses up, and she proceeds to still charge me full rate. I asked if she was reducing the price since they weren't ready when promised, and I was 2 hours away from my event start time. She proceeded to say "awww, come on I was on vacation. You've been a good customer and this was my first time. You brought in two dresses and I took off $20. I didn't even argue with her. I just said ok, paid the over priced alterations, and left. I hope her lack of customer service appreciation was worth losing a regular monthly client, and me not referring any more people to her. read more

BEWARE. I was charged $182 for a dress to be taken in and hemmed. The dress only cost $160. I asked her why she charged me so much. The prices don't reflect what she has posted behind the counter. She stated because it's a formal dress. The going rate around the country for the work she did would maybe be a max of $50. I saw good reviews for live oak and decided to take a bridesmaids dress there. It needed to be hemmed, taken in, and straps taken back. I recognize this is not a small amount of work, but was pretty shocked that the price was going to be $150. (The dress itself is $275 so it was over half the cost of the dress itself). Regardless, little you can do at that point once they've pinned you and you're checking out, so I left feeling uncomfortable about the price but hoping for great service in exchange. When making plans for pickup, I was told it would be ready by 7/27. I was under the impression that that meant I could pick up any time from 7/27 onward. I depart for the out of town wedding on 8/3, so I went in on 8/1 to pick up. I called repeatedly that day and the phone rang and rang with no ability to leave a voicemail, which thought was weird, but went to go pick up during their posted business hours anyway. I drive up and find the shop to be locked and dark inside. There was no note on the door explaining where they were or why the shop was closed. I panicked, as I thought it was possible she may have left town. I only had one more day to pick up my dress before leaving for the wedding. I left a note on the door, messaged on Facebook and continued to call. I finally got someone this morning and explained my concern and she apologized and said she would be there tonight when I was to come back. She explained she was sick and that was why she was not there yesterday. At this point, I had lost sleep, looked for alternate dresses online, and thought about breaking the news to the bride. Luckily, when I went back today, they were there and my dress was finished. When I went to pay, after I had expressed my dissatisfaction with my experience and the extreme stress it had caused me, she still proceeded to charge me $150. I was very unhappy and made it known. What made it completely ridiculous is she told me it was my fault for not picking up on the 7/27 date! I tried to explain that it was not clearly communicated that I was to pick up on that date, and when I was trying to explain I kept getting interrupted and told I was wrong. I stopped the conversation and walked out, promising to never return. She said "I can't believe you would act this way." I do not wish this stress or poor communication/poor business practice on anyone, and I highly recommend you steer clear! If you are going to close your shop during your normal business hours, the least you can do is call your customers with outstanding pickups and let them know. Or, leave it on an automated voice message. Or, post it on facebook/your website. Leave a note on the door! Something! And never, ever tell a customer they are wrong. I understand people get sick, but business owners need a backup plan in those instances. read more

Ms. Sue is a miracle worker! I ordered my dress online and the measurements were all wrong. The dress was too small and my wedding was around the corner. I brought my dress to her and told her how I wanted it, and when I needed it. Although I was playfully scolded because of the time constraints, she said she would do it. I went back two days later because my fiancée's jacket needed to be altered and she had finished my dress. I tried it on it was perfect, just how I wanted it. I almost cried. It was beautiful. For an alteration $185 on a bridesmaid dress?! My wedding dress was only $120, and they are saying for hem alone (which is not difficult, even with chiffon) is $85. This is for a friend of mine who lives there, and I live in San Diego, where it should be more expensive, and my other bridesmaid is getting it altered I think maybe $50 on a rush order! Even though I don't live there I know prices well enough to know the price my friend was quoted was outrageous, regardless of the quality! Definitely continuing to look around. read more
