He manages to keep the mass and the Gospel sounding interesting and from the heart, which is very important, I feel, for all the parishioners to stay interested and actually listen to what is being taught. After moving to the area, I had been attended all the Catholic Churches in the area to see which community I wanted to become a part of, and St. Basil, the last one I checked out, has seemed to finally hit the mark. The church itself is beautiful, the community is friendly and welcoming, and I feel a good sense of spirit within the confines of this church. Yes, the neighborhood is not in the best area of town, but it isn't the worst. The church feels safe and I truly feel the spirit of God here. I will say, that I find it to be very distant and cold that no one shakes hands anymore when sharing the sign of peace, but I guess that is how many churches are going now. The little head nod just seems to be so impersonal, and I wish that St. Basil would encourage their parishioners to welcome each other with open arms. There is a good amount of diversity who attend mass at this church, but I will say that the majority of the parish seems to be Filipino. But then, we are in Vallejo and there is a huge Filipino community here, who of course are majority Catholic. Overall, I would recommend anyone looking for a Catholic church to come check this one out. I appreciate that there is a 5:30pm mass on Sundays. I wish there was an even later one. Where I use to attend mass, we would have an 8:00pm and a 10:00pm mass on Sundays. This ensured that everyone could attend Sunday mass regardless of the time of day. I know we are suppose to honor and worship God on our own accord and He is to be our first priority, but I also feel that some people need the additional assistance to lead them to the Lord, and by having the extra mass times, it would allow people the opportunity to receive the added blessings if they were not able to attend earlier in the day, but that's just a thought.

A beautiful church with many pews but only one real bathroom to use…read more I went here for a funeral mass for an aunt. We used a smaller room in the church that hosted about 30 of us to celebrate her life. I always find it odd to be surrounded by so much craftsmanship and wealth in edifice and artifacts and yet the actions of those who work here are so austere. It sometimes is a contradiction in itself as I would like to see less trinkets and more good done for the community it serves. The priest was nice enough who lead us through the service. He had a good sense of humor and balance both the sadness and the joy she brought into the world. He also keep the service relatively short as masses go, which helped. If you're looking just to admire beautiful stand glass windows, take a moment for personal prayer, or attend a service, come take a gander. It is worth a one time exploration if not from the area. If you live by this place and are of the Catholic faith, it might be worth joining in the masses and activities that go on here.

There is also a view from the church that over looks the city of Vallejo. As for the mass service here, I can't really judge it since I only attended a special ceremony. Later, the church ex communicated a friend of mine because she left her husband. He was psychologically and spiritually abusing her so I felt they victimized her a second time by shaming her by ex communicating her in front of her family that still attended there, plus they backed an abuser. I decided to give them a second chance over a decade later-dummy me. I encountered the same spiritual and psychological bullying from the same person who had done that to me and a friend of mine years past(not the husband and a different friend) and wondered how this behavior is allowed to persist. Why haven't they called out this longtime member for their behavior? Most people there are nice-maybe just codependent, blind to it, not sure. I knew I couldn't say anything because it would just turn on me. The bully is very manipulative, so I left.

As such, we are an imperfect people, a needy people, a people of little strength...we are sinners. As such, like in every local church, people might get their feelings hurt, or might feel offended. And, so like in any healthy family, the intent is to acknowledge our sin and grow in unity, encouraging, challenging and even to admonishing one another at times. To that end, we are in process, being schooled by the tribune God. He provides his people with wisdom, strength, grace that we might fulfill his purpose which is to glorify Jesus Christ. In this imperfect local body we call the church, our leadership strives to shepherd God's people by pointing them to Christ, in whom is our salvation and sanctification. We are a people bought by the blood of Christ, his bride, and his church. Christ is preached and taught as completely sufficient and glorious. He is the head of the Sovereign Head of the church, the King. Every local church is comprised with genuine believers who have been born again by God himself, a people of faith and repentance, in contrast with those that walk through the doors who are unregenerate, still hardened against God, some are hypocrites, some self-deceived, some that grow up to become atheists. Every church is comprised of true and false converts, wheat and tares, regenerate and unregenerate, believing and unbelieving in the God revealed in the Bible. CBC engages in training leaders, equipping the saints for service and ministry (discipleship), instructing people in sound theology, Biblical teaching (doctrine) and what local church body life looks like. CBC also practices church discipline. I have noticed that people that have been disciplined by churches loving enough to confront their scandalous sin, often leave distasteful reviews online. Jesus MANDATED church discipline (Matthew 18), the apostle Paul strongly affirmed church discipline in I Corinthians 5. When professing Christians are confronted with their scandalous sin, some of them resort to slandering the very church that sought to restore them in love, and have no intentions of coming back, while others have not only repented, but come back and and have been lovingly restored and received. It's beautiful. At times, on-line reviews must be taken with a grin of salt. There are always at least two sides of a story, emotions and bias, or different perspectives on what makes a healthy church. The New Testament epistles define and describe what a healthy, Christ-centered church looks like and how it conducts itself. Let God's Word (not style, pop culture, not cool worship music) direct you on which local church is best for you.

But it is the order of Yeshua and the Apostle to speak or represent the Gospel in Jewish circles who still preserve the hope of a Messiah , and allow them to decide to banish me or kick me out the synagogue. Such a beautiful multi-generational and culturally diverse community centered in biblical teaching,…read morediscipleship, and joy through Jesus! I've attended about a half dozen times this year, as I've been in search of a local church that prioritized the above, and is also committed to local + global service. This body gives me the perfect combination of the grounded soul of the church I grew up in, with modern elements of today to enhance participation for everyone in the service, small groups, and giving. Even though I no longer have small children, I value a church's commitment to youth, so I'm heartened to know there is a youth church for toddlers through teens at Sunday service. Finally, a word about length - I know this can be a factor for some, and the service is neither too short and perfunctory, nor a four hour commitment. Church starts promptly at 10:00 and ends around 12noon on Sunday. Prepare to be on your feet for almost the first half as the praise and worship team will inspire you! There is still more to explore for me here, but if you're looking for a North Bay church home, or a place to visit - Revival Center is the one!
