This is my second post. I am not living in San Francisco, CA (don't know how that got there; I'm in the midwest), so I'm not trustful of Yelp now, but I wanted to leave a glowing response for Living Scriptures. I was initially contacted by them by telephone from two different sales agents. I explained to both that my husband and I were currently out of work (due to the pandemic), but that once we were both working I would consider it. The second agent asked me what content I would like to see; the next week it was there on the site. I subscribed readily. Today, I was struggling with forgiveness, and prayed for help to forgive someone. I am 66 years old. This is the first negative review I have ever written. I work overseas with our troops for 3 months and then return to the US for three months twice each year. I do not need the Living Scriptures website when I am away. When I am in the US, my grandchildren and I love the site. I have had multiple conversations with sales reps explaining my situation and having them hard sell me to get on a contract which I refuse. I have been fully aware of the policy that accounts may only be on hold for 2 months. I called to cancel just now since I am shortly leaving the US. I was told that I had agreed to a contract of 3 years, and if I wanted to cancel and restart in three months, there would be a CX fee of $30. I tried to reason with two staff that I would never consciously agree to such a three year contract, and if I had made a mistake maybe they would like to waive the fee and keep me as a customer for the months when I am in the US. They flatly refused!!! What short sited customer service! How sad, as the programming on the site is so wonderful! They will be charging my credit card $30 one time, and they will be losing out on a happy customer for 6 months out of each year. Management, this is stupid. read more

Technology & customer service a joke. I called first time to report issues with service. Specifically when you try to broadcast image from your iPhone or iPad the image on your tv is 1/2 the size of your tv screen. They didn't know why butThey promised to get back to me. 24 go by and nothing. I called again : they said they were still working on getting me an answer and finally on the 3rd try I get the word that they don't know why things happen and they were sending me a device Roku but I would have to sign up for 3 YEARS!!! I wrote to their president and no response. Three weeks later no Roku, no calls. I called the 5th time and discovered that their customer service dept consists of only 2 PEOPLE!! And they PROMISED AGAIN to send me the device. Sad that a service would such great potential is a total failure with customer service. read more

I was having a technical issue with some of the videos that i tried streaming in my account today and I had the nicest most patient customer service representative assisting me today and her name is Veronica. She did awesome with helping me out with my problem and i am very grateful and appreciative for her assistance. Not only did she take the time to hear what was going on with my account but she also continued to assist me until the problem was resolved. Im not disabled and not very computer or tech savvy or knowledgeable and she completely understood me and went above and beyond in helping me to resolve the issue of it not working. Her customer service skills were out of this world amazing and i wanted to let everyone know how grateful I am to subscribe to a company with such high success in helping and being of service with compassion and outstanding skills in actually listening and hearing what the customer was trying to convey with my little knowledge in how to put into words the explanation of what i was experiencing. Awesome customer service relations skills and I definately am beyond satisfied and happy with the living scriptures services thank you Veronica for representing your employer with such high standards of excellence. I signed up for the streaming service on a Saturday and cannot access any video's. I phoned on the Monday and they put me on hold for over an hour then never phoned back when I finally opted for the phone call. I have previously ordered a set of video' s and then decided to cancel and they never refunded me a full refund. The lady I spoke to was very rude and disrespectful. These people are not Christian. read more

I know I was on a month to month plan. Or I would not have signed up. I emailed "Veronica" to cancel my membership because we never ever watch it and we never really see our grand kids much since they moved away. She emailed back and said they could not cancel thru email even though one of YOUR sites says we can. So I called and she said I was on a 3 year contract. I told her this looks bad on really good LDS people. So I asked her to send me a copy of my contract and I received nothing. I even emailed Veronica again 2x to receive the contract I agreed to and still nothing. So I blocked my account where she can not charge me. If I see anything on my credit report I will have my attorney call her himself. I am a very well educated woman and know Laws and Contracts very well. I deal with them every single day. I never agreed to 3 year contract. So I went thru my account to cancel and this is what it said.............. "Not allowed to cancel. For More information, please contact us." I have never minded sales people or their tactics. I just try and get my questions answered before I sign. I knew it was a contract when I signed up for Living Scriptures. I do understand the frustration of other reviewers but I have loved this product. It has taught my children in ways that I couldn't do on my own. They are powerful. Just ask questions before you buy. A few years back, I purchased the Book of Mormon series of DVDs and as part of the "package" I also was supposed to have digital copies of the movies. That was prior to the streaming service they now offer. So I used to have access to digital copies of all of the Living Scriptures videos that I owned and now I no longer do because I don't subscribe to the streaming service. I shouldn't have to pay $4.99 a month to have access to digital movies I have already purchased! That is crooked and dishonest to expect that. As I have tried to discuss this issue with customer service, they have not been willing to do anything to fix the problem unless I want to pay for streaming service. My requests to speak with a supervisor were completely ignored. I used to really like Living Scriptures, and I still think they have a valuable product, but they will not get any more of my money so long as they continue to practice dishonesty. Don't trust them to follow the same values that their videos portray!!!! read more

I pay $10 for the monthly steaming and it is sooo slow. Their customer service is rude and their website is useless when making changes to your account. You'll eventually be forced to call into customer service (who doesn't return calls) and then talk to a mindless employee, chomping on gum and rolling their eyes while you talk. I am so disappointed to be charged so much for such a mediocre service. I wish there was another option out there. read more

I had the family membership and I called and asked to go down to the private subscription a week after the autorenewal, which I didn't even know was on my account and I never got notified that I was getting billed for the following year of service. They told me there was nothing they could do and I could cancel the membership but not get any money back and would still have the services for a year. I said can't I just get a prorated rate back, like most companies, and they say they do not do that. The frustrating thing is I logged on to the website a month ago, before all of this and there was no way to cancel or change my account type online and no where did it say my account was going to auto renew. I read the reviews prior to subscribing last year but figured the reviews probably weren't applicable because they are now streaming and not selling the DVD, but I was wrong. I'm so disappointed with living scriptures company. I like the Christian movies but the business itself is awful. I liked watching The chosen on this app on free trial. Later that week I received a call from the company where I wasn't able to hear the representative well enough and she locked me into a 36 month contract. After having the app a few months I realized much of the time it was kind of wacky and bad quality. For example the coding would be all jumbled and on top of each other for each category or if you click on the app it would disappear. Anyways, so I called to cancel and the girl I spoke with explained I was in a one year contract. I bit the bullet even though I never do contracts, not even for my phone service or internet do I do contracts.. I waited a year and called trying to cancel today and they said that it was a 36 month contract. If this was the case or if this had been explained to me the first time I called to cancel 2 months after using the app- I would have paid the fee $30.00 and canceled then. Now I have paid them for a year without watching it more than twice and I still have to pay $30.00 to cancel. I feel like it is very deceiving that they don't show proof of contract etc. on the login or account details or even send a courtesy email explaining your commitment. The way this company does business doesn't seem Christian to me at all... which is weird because that's what they are offering for viewing. I'm on the line now listening to hold music for 30 mins so far to try to cancel without paying a fee or at least pay the fee and be refunded for months that would have been canceled if representative would have given me the correct information in the first place when I tried to cancel 2 months after not being impressed with technology of this app. I have never written a Yelp in my life or even a review of any sort before but I'm beyond disappointed with the customer service with the employee talking over me and not trying in any form to regard me or understand the terrible shady service I have received. Anyways still on hold and this is the only way you can cancel if they lock you into one of these awful shady contracts. The app account details doesn't allow Cancelation or any details about your account. Our family loves the videos, but we wish we could buy them individually without having to sign a contract. We worked with Amy and found her to be really helpful and willing to work with us on a recent misunderstanding. I would advise everyone to read the contract thoroughly and make sure you understand it in order to avoid problems, and you'll enjoy the products thoroughly! read more

I canceled my streaming service last month and was charged again today - I also got an email alert that my password was reset but I haven't logged into the portal for weeks. On hold with customer service and no one is picking up. Do not recommend this company. read more

My kids (my husband and I, too), love these movies! They help bring the spirit into our home and help the kids understand the scriptures better. They are great for Sunday watching and for family home evening, too. They are a bit expensive, but they give awesome bonuses and I was able to get one a month so it fit into our budget. Our salesman was great, too. Explained everything thoroughly to us. It is a contract and not a subscription. They gave me an extra bonus for referring people I thought would be interested and the only people I could think of were family members and friends who are in my ward. I hope no one was mad at me or took it out on the nice salesman for that! read more

Will never purchase from this company again. Their sales tactics are heavy handed and over the top. Asked where they got my contact information after being addressed by name as soon as the door was opened. After hearing the same story from several other church members in the area, starting to wonder how they got all of our contact information (directory???). They said it was through referrals, but highly questionable given that they hit almost all the members in one section of town. Neighbor has also mentioned stories of having to put a "Do Not Contact Me Anymore" notice after being relentlessly contacted to purchase new products and services once a member. Absolute worst company ever. These People give the Church or Christianity itself a bad name. The contract as written is a work of absolute evil. It is designed to force you to continue to pay the company regularly for services even if you no longer want those services. In order to cancel they will require you to pay 1/3 of the upfront cost for nothing and give you nothing in return. I received 4 dvds and was surprised at how short they were. I was told by the salesperson that they were "standard" DVD length. I don't know of many DVDs that are only 20 min long that anyone would want to buy for $30+. I called and asked to have my subscription canceled. They said that I was up to date and that my contract required me to pay 1/3 to cancel. I asked if I would be receiving 1/3 of the DVD's of course they said no. I then asked why I am only receiving the DVD's monthly if this was a contract and not a subscription. When I talked to the sales guy he said cancel any time and told me that it was a subscription. They lie they will cheat and they will steal everything they can from you. This company should be shut down. Don't even bother with the BBB they are no help ever. I finally had to get my attorney to send them a letter. read more

**I'm usually not one to rant in public forums but I feel a responsibility to help spare others from the hellish experience I've had with what I'm sure most of you believe is an honest company. FYI, the LDS church has no affiliation with them and know they would never do so should they know of it's inner workings.** LIVING SCRIPTURES BEWARE!!!! SCAM COMPANY!! Let me just say, I have nothing against the videos or any of the products. I grew up watching them and wanted my kids to enjoy them as well. HOWEVER.... What I experienced with this company was nothing but dishonest, shady, and if not down right illegal, it most definitely should be. (P.s. I am not the only one this has happened to.) A salesman came into my home and gave me his sales pitch. I wanted my kids to enjoy learning the values and stories found in the DVDs and so I decided to sign up. I was very thorough in asking the salesman questions, trying making sure I knew what I was signing up for. I asked several times about cancelation policies and any other fine print items I should know about. He assured me several times that I understood correctly, that I could cancel after three days, with nothing out of pocket, and could cancel after that time as well, with no penalties whatsoever, I just would not get a refund on the $30 sign up fee and could not return any items I had received up to the time of cancel. During his presentation, he received a phone call from his "son" saying he needed to come pick him up as soon as he could. He then gave me the contract papers to sign, which is over 70 paragraphs!, and I continued to do my due diligence, reading over everything. He began rushing me, assuring me that I understood everything and it was just logistics we had already covered. I still kept reading and again he said, "please, I've got to go, you can just sign, we've already gone over everything." Feeling like there might be some emergency regarding his son, I quickly signed, confident that with all my drilling and questions, I knew what I was purchasing. A few months and only a few dvd's into the contract, my husband and I were going over finances, felt we wanted to cut some things from our monthly expenses and decided to cancel our subscription. I went to Living Scriptures offices and told them I needed to cancel and they said the only way to do so was to pay 1/3 of the full amount of the $2000 + contract, so over $700! I told them that the salesman had told me a completely different story. They didn't care one bit. I asked to get in contact with the salesman and they refused to give me his information. I begged, pleaded, threatened to file with the BBB, again nothing. All they kept coming back to was that I signed the contract and they are under no obligation to change the terms. I asked where in the contract it said I would owe $700!, even if I should cancel after one month of service. They pointed to it and indeed, it was there...one of the last paragraphs!! (Is it any wonder, the salesman was all but shoving the pen into my hands before I could finish reading??) I told them I was rushed into signing a contract that was totally different than was apparently written, that I tried to read through the painfully long paperwork but was bullied to sign prematurely, based on him assuring me there were no cancelation penalties. I ended up just sobbing in front of her out of desperation. All I received was a cold, expression of annoyance from the manager and a refusal to see any wrong doing on there part. So now I am left to essentially pay $700 for three DVD 's or have my credit threatened should I refuse to pay this unjust fee and they send me to collections. I'm not sure what I can do except to let all I can know that this company hides behind the values they portray in their movies. They lure you in, building confidence that because what they are selling is worthwhile, it is a fair and honest company to do business with. In actuality, they are nothing but snakes. I have since looked at the better business bureau and there are almost 40 complaints about Living Scriptures and most of them are mirror images of my experience. If you want these DVDs, save yourself the outrageously high prices and buy them on Ebay or ksl classifieds. You can buy entire collections from others for a fraction of the cost and save yourself from dealing with these blood thirsty con artists! read more

I would highly suggest researching this company further before choosing to invest in their product. I have called customer service numerous times in an attempt to have questions answered and each time the customer service has been horrible. This last attempt to speak with someone was the worst experience I have had with any Manager. The manager was rude, inconsiderate and disrespectful and sounded to be about 17 years old. His manners were disgraceful. On top of that, when he didn't want to talk to me anymore he hung up on me. I do not know the owner but have heard unfortunate things about the way he chooses to do business. Unfortunately, this company profits off of people who choose to use these videos as learning tools for their children in regards to the teachings of the LDS church. Not one person I have spoken to in this company represents being kind to your neighbor in any way, shape or form. I will never do business with Living Scriptures again and will continue to let others know of their dishonesty and poor ways of doing business. read more

I wouldn't even give them a single star if I could but I can't. I can't believe this company hides behind a Christian name like Living Scriptures. This company preys on the elderly, even those with Dementia and Alzheimers disease. My sick, elderly mother was preyed upon recently by someone from this company and coerced into signing up for a huge amount of videos costing over a thousand dollars. I called this company and was assured that due to the circumstances mentioned the account would be closed and no payments would be required. No more than 4 months later a new bill is received requesting payment for the account and further more videos would be in the mail. I would seriously suggest that anyone that comes in contact with this company not be fooled by there sales tactics and instead make sure that you don't invite them into your house. read more

THE WOLVES IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING These people are the worst kind of scam and con artists out there. They prey upon families making you feel like they just want to help your family learn the scriptures, but they are terrible people. We have had many problems with their customer service in the past, but this time they've stooped lower than usual. My wife grew up watching the videos from the living scriptures and wanted to get the collection for our family so we signed up at the State Fair. Recently my wife had her credit card stolen so we cancelled it and had a new one issued. We received a letter soon after stating that they were having trouble charging our account. We had forgotten to call them with the new card info during all the chaos so we could understand them contacting us. Except the letter also said they were giving us an unexpected "free bonus" worth quite a bit of money. The letter had a threatening tone saying that if we didn't call them back within five business days they would "have to charge [us] the full retail amount." They hadn't even tried to contact us with the phone number that they had on file. They certainly didn't have any problem calling us when they wanted to offer us other products that would cost extra. I have never seen such vile tactics used against the family unit before. There aren't enough awful things to say about the type of business conducted at living scriptures, but you can sum them up with one word: serpents. read more

Living scriptures is such a terrible business that they don't even deserve 0 stars. I was completely appalled by how they treated me as an employee. My interview went well, Abby (the girl who hired me) told me I would start training the following Monday and would call me with the time to show up for orientation. Not only did she not call me, but I received no contact from the company for 3 weeks. I showed up to the business twice in person, called 7 times only to be directed to voicemails each time, and even sent an email to Gaye Frandsen the HR woman about trying to come to work and no replies were given. I wish I would have read these reviews before I was suckered into and obligated to by thousands of dollars worth of videos. This company lies to you, tells you that you will receive free items, charges you for items they never send and refuse to cancel your account even when people are going through financial difficulties. Their response as to why they wont cancel, is because of the "out of pocket expenses they have incurred" which doesn't make sense to me because they don't send the videos in advance; oh it must be all those "free" items they lie to you about. They show up at your door unexpected, and unsolicited, and like wolves in sheep's clothing, take advantage of unsuspecting members of the church. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! read more

I was at the pageant at Palmyra and made the mistake to talk to a sales guy outside of a church bookstore. He was super pushy and kept trying to convince me to buy some of the DVDs, NEVER telling me how much it would be. I kept telling him I couldn't afford to buy anything and he wouldn't take no for an answer. It was really, really strange. I almost felt powerless to just walk away, so I signed a contract (stupid me not reading it entirely or asking how much I would have to pay). I found out after that it was for over $1200 that I would have to pay over the next few years. And it's not like I could just go back and say that I changed my mind, since I was out of country and the guy was just getting people to sign up outside the church bookstore. It was totally shady how pushy of a salesperson he was and how he NEVER, NEVER, NEVER told me how much I would end up paying. It's very unethical how they deal with their business by tricking people into signing contracts in which they're stuck paying tonnes of cash for sub-par videos. It was the cartoons I wanted for my child, but then after watching them, they're so old, like made in the 90s. For the amount of money they're taking from people, they should be giving quality products. read more

I give them zero stars for corrupt and unethical business practices. Their product is attractive to faithful church members, which makes it even worse because you feel you could trust them. Do not let their salesmen or salesgirls into your home. Do not sign a contract with them. A nice young man straight off his mission came into our home, ate dinner with us, and stayed until he convinced us to finally sign his contract to allow us to receive one DVD per month and we give them a payment once a month. After about a year I decided we have enough of the DVD's and I don't want anymore. Plus, they are very overpriced. It's $38 for one half hour DVD. I called to cancel and they told me I can't cancel. They said I had a contract and I have to finish that contract, which is another $1200 worth of DVD's. There is no way to cancel. After talking to someone else they said I have to pay 1/3 of that price to cancel and I wouldn't even receive anything for that money. I don't understand how they can legally do that. I have paid for the DVD's I have received and don't want any more. They sent me a box full of the rest of their DVD's when I tried to cancel. I returned it unopened and said I don't want any more of their products. They sent me a letter back saying that they are going to resend it and if I refuse it again they will consider it abandoned and I will still be responsible for it. I feel the salesperson lied to me. He did not tell me I can never cancel. I did not read the 4 pages of fine print before I signed the paper. So shame on me for that. I am embarrassed that I got suckered into this deal and so it took me a while to speak up about it. I just wanted to warn anyone approached by their salespeople. read more

I signed up to get a free DVD that was suppose to be Praise to the Man. After signing up, I got a phone call from a sales person that wanted me to buy some other DVDs as well. I declined but told them I might buy some in the future since I AM interested in obtaining more church DVDs someday. It was a bit of a pain getting that sales call, but I figured it was worth it if I could get Praise to the Man free. It is such a great movie. Well, it took a month to get to us, then we discover that they didn't even put the DVD in a case! They just stuck it in a big envelope all by itself. But the biggest disappointment was that they failed to send the DVD that they promised! It was a movie with people talking about Joseph Smith but not in any way the right movie. If they can't even be honest and send me the movie I asked for in a timely manner and have the consideration to put it in a case, why should I invest money in their DVDs in the future??? Horrible company. DO NOT EVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THEM. My husband got sucked in by a salesman at Comic Con. He kept telling them NO, and they kept promising him more and more "FREE" stuff. What a joke. He thought since the company was selling "LDS-type things" that they would be honest. THEY ARE NOT!!! The salesman kept telling him he could just cancel "next week" and keep all of the free stuff. My husband told the salesman that his credit card was canceled the day before (because of fraudulent charges detected by the bank). The salesman took it anyway. Thinking he wouldn't be able to be charged, my husband tried to cancel 10 days later. They said that the contract says you have to cancel within 3 days, or you owe the entire $2000 for all of their products. We were flabbergasted. We told them we would return all of the "free" merchandise unopened. We did that, and are still being forced to pay $387 to get out of the contract. WE DO NOT OWN ONE ITEM OF THEIRS AND WE OWE THEM NEARLY $400!! How is this legal??! What a gigantic scam. read more
