So, what does every girl love to do on a weekend- that's right- as little as possible!…read more I'd purchased a voucher for use of the facilities @ Spirit Health club so decided to take my friend pre-Leeds Half marathon for some r&r. It was a bit difficult to get booked in as I tried quite a few occasions and the phone just rang out but when we did we were told there was no time restrictions for the day. We toddled in @ 2.30pm and greeted by a friendly receptionist- she did advise if we were using the gym and needed assistance that we'd have to go and get her as they were short staffed-again, no issue with this as at least she told us. We got use of the gym & pool,sauna,steam room & jacuzzi. I've been here before to use the facilities so knew the layout but the changing rooms are located some way from the gym which isn't ideal. No matter. We were 2 of only 4 in the gym which was nice not having to fight for the machines. It's suitably equipped with machines for a gym of it's size but doesn't have much free space between things which I wasn't keen on. My cross-trainer squeaked for the whole duration I was on it which wasn't ideal. The 'seated' exercise bike had no instructions on it as did one of the weight machines which perturbed us somewhat. We spent about 45 mins in the gym and the max capacity was 5 at any one time. We then went for a swim and again, the pool wasn't overly busy. The temperature of the water was a little cold for me but once you are in it you're ok. It's a decent size for doing some lengths and an area is marked off for 'lane swimming' only so this helps keep away the pesky kids! The jacuzzi runs on a standard 10 min cycle with a 5 minute rest but the other people there didn't seem to be aware of this-despite a large notice on the wall! You are encouraged to shower between using the pool/steam room/sauna/jacuzzi but a lot of people we observed didn't. The pool/sauna/steam room and jacuzzi area are all well maintained and appeared clean. The changing facilities are limited to one room of lockers with a bench in front of each so anymore than 8 people and you'd be struggling to fit everyone in. Also the toilet didn't flush properly. The shower takes a while to come to temperature and the soap provided is very harsh on already chlorinated drying skin. Hairdryers are provided and the 'wring-it' swimming costume spinner- sadly no bag were provided to take the wet stuff away. Overall the place is clean and well maintained. There weren't many staff about we observed the whole time we were there which is fine if you're happy enough but if you needed assistance it would provide some issues I'm sure. Its a good way to experience the Leisure club & see what offers they have available for membership or more frequent use

An excellent, no frills, boxing and kick boxing gym…read more I've only ever done the amateur seniors boxing sessions, but have to say that having never done boxing before I have found it fantastic. Each session lasts an hour and expect it to be hard. Very hard. Very welcoming, but they will shout at you. They will push you. You will get fit. Stick with it and you will love it. I've now moved away from the Leeds area, but still try and get back to train here whenever I can. Highly recommended

The facilities include a Fitness Suite, 25 metre pool, Sports Hall, Sauna / Steam Room, Outdoor All Weather Pitch, Crèche and The Waterfront Café. I particularly like the fitness Suite which has had a major refurbishment (still the great staff and a lovely relaxed atmosphere) and the Crèche facilities which i have used several times. My children would disagree and say it has to be the crazy slides in the pool, which keep them amused most Sundaysand unlike most pools this is one is not freezing! Talking of the pool, my children learnt to swim here and gained their swimming awards in Otters and Seals levels. For those little ones who just can't get enough of swimming there are progressive swimming groups that require more dedication. Oh and don't forget you can reclaim your parking tickets once you are in the Leisure centre.

It's mega-cheap!…read more Just come out of my first session at this brand spanking new gym in Leeds, part of the Merrion Market redevelopment and the regeneration of what's become known as the 'Arena Quarter'. I had reservations about signing up for a budget gym, as my main motivation getting me through a workout in the past has been a lovely swim at the end, but as it goes I didn't miss it that much in the end. But enough about me... The gym is lovely and airy and the equipment is all well spaced out. Spread over two floors, the ground floor has tons of cardio equipment - cross trainers, bikes, rowing machines, treadmills. There's even a handful of swanky cross trainers that have an incline feature, and a couple of stair machines that look like mini escalators! As well as all the cardio machines, there are a smattering of weights machines, a couple of powerplates, and a rope pulling machine! Moving downstairs there's a raised area with free weights, more cardio machines, an area with a load of bikes set up for spin classes, a studio area for classes and a large mirrored area for people to use kettlebells, gym balls and other bits and bobs. I haven't done a class yet, but I'm booked in for a step class on Thursday morning and Intro to Kettlebells on Saturday - eek! The class timetable looks ok, there are around 40 classes per week, running in the mornings, lunchtimes and evenings. My only gripe is that the evening classes don't start until after 5pm, and as someone who finishes work at 4pm and has kids to see before bedtime, I'd prefer a few starting 4-4.30pm. Like most budget gyms, this one is open 24 hours, 7 days a week, with staff on site from 6am until 10pm. The front door and the changing rooms are accessed using the PIN number they give you when you join. I went at 6.15am this morning for a workout before work and it was nice and quiet at that time, although by the time I went to shower and change at 7.15 the changing rooms were getting pretty busy. I expect, as it's so central, that 7-9, 12-2 and 4-7 will likely be fairly high-traffic times (my pal Ally who also went there this morning just after me said she had to queue for the showers at 8am), especially at the moment as it's newly opened and people are in the determined just-signed-up phase! Downsides for me: obviously the lack of a pool is a huge negative, but not going to deduct stars for that as it's a budget gym. Where this gym loses a star from me is the complete absence of water fountains! Staying hydrated is SO important when you're working out, so to not supply with free water is a massive black mark for me. Luckily I took a bottle of water along with me anyway this morning, must remember this every time! Another small mini gripe is a lack of tv channels on the screens around the place, there's just a standard 'Pure Gym TV' type channel - other gyms I've been members of in the past have had headphone jacks in the machines so you can choose which channel you'd like to watch and listen to the audio. However, value for money wise, it's difficult to knock. I signed up with the 'early bird' offer so I'm paying £10.99 p/month and the joining fee was £15. Standard price is £17.99 p/month with a £25 joining fee. Given that that is a third of the price I was previously paying at my 'premium' gym, I think it's excellent value. With family commitments it's pretty hard for me to make time for the gym, so even if I only end up going once a week, for that price it's not like I'm just throwing money away. Ok that's it from me for now, will update again with more info and some photos after I've done a class or two!

But you can not enter the building from Michlegate you have walk past it and around the corner to the large rear car park at the rear of the building. Then park in their Private car park. Bodi Bitz is a family run business run by a husband and wife team, so the atmosphere is relaxed. Along with the owners there is one instructor. Your first visit is free where you can sample the latest fitness equipment and see if the centre is for you. If you decide to join the club, you are offered memberships that ranges from yearly, 6 months, 3 months or monthly direct debit. For off peak times you are offered a reduced rate which is for Monday to Friday 9am to 5.3pm and Saturday morning. A know several members of the club who have enjoyed the facilities and atmosphere. Bodi Bitz might not be JJB's but it have that personal touch that evades the big companies.
