YES, some of the shows devote time to celebrity gossip, but just keep listening. When that fluffy crap is over the rest is pretty darn entertaining. They totally lost a star from me when they started playing Perez Hilton clips three times a day. BOO.

They are informative and educational. (I miss Nichole M.) Some may not be up my alley (the divorce lawyer show) but most are (nutritional, doggy behavior) It's nice to run errands and everytime you get back in the car someone new is on and giving you more info to live by. Overall I love FM 107.1. I also hope Jason M stays, his show is on at a perfect time to catch during lunch break and I seem to always turn it on when everyone gets to call and say what "drives them crazy"! The one show that I don't care for, but I keep trying, is I and M in the morning. I get incredibly frustrated when the show becomes all about Ian and his point of view. Which is always "right". He uses the disconnect button to maintain that status. Don't get me wrong, I think they are well educated people with very good values, but NPR gets my attention during those hours.

It is very annoying to view temperature info…read morefrom all of the International Airports around the globe, and yet there is NO information for the MSP Airport. They appear to be providing information to Global Lurkers rather than to the Twin Cities MN Region they serve. They could at least put the current temperature for the Minneapols St Paul International Airport on the bottom of the screen with the Time\Date\Sunrise\Sunset Information. There appears to be space there for this. What is with the bright blue screen? It is common knowlege that blue light is bad for your eyes and can lead to emotional agitation in some people. This new format creeps me out. The BBC news headlines that are selected for broadcast indicates that they are targeting a very small local audience, rather than the larger MSP region. There doesn't appear to be any connection between TPT Now and the regional weather alerts that come out of Chaska MN. I no longer rely on TPT Now for information during hazardous weather This is why I don't give them any more monetary donations.

In fact there is a chance that at least parts are completely unrecognized by me. Regardless of its present shape, to the best of my knowledge it remains a community based, almost entirely a volunteer effort. I have found KFAI to be a source of information representing a diverse swath of voices, eclectic musical offerings and an interesting lineup of on-air talent. The signal used to be quite weak and localized. Since then I understand that it has significantly extended its reach to include most if not all of the metro. If you plan on contributing to a listener supported station, to me KFAI is well worth your consideration.

It was a Sunday evening, I was laying on my bed listening to the radio and probably bored. I spun the dial all the way to the left and then I slowly started moving the dial to the right on my alarm/clock radio searching for something else. It didn't take much but I suddenly stopped it here, 90.3 FM. The song playing was Romeo Void's, Never Say Never. That guitar, drums, driving beat and suddenly that sax in the chorus was tossing my entire world of what I perceived as music. And enter the rabbit hole I did because many years down the road this station is still a mainstay. It still introduces me to music and I hear news that doesn't get played or aired anywhere else. Its local, supported by member listeners and is easily one of the most underrated things in this town. Music Nerd Fact that I learned from KFAI: You know that song "Train Kept a Rolling" made popular by Aerosmith? Well the 60's band Cream was one of the first to cover it but the original was done by Tiny Bradshaw. Yep. Seriously, if you are the into music and appreciate the likes of The Current, KEXP out of Seattle or KCRW from Santa Monica, KFAI takes that and then adds some spice and takes it to a whole new level. Sat. morning is very unique with Wings Kalahan's Hotrod Radio.You'll catch really obscure tunes during the week, no particular time. It's what oldies channels used to be when I listened to them in the 70's. I'm glad I stumbled on this one.
