Even if elegant does not make you feeling uncomfortable, the menu changes often and they try always to serve seasonal food. The style of the dishes is local Italian/Calabrese but never obvious, they really try to start from great ingredients and a sound culinary culture to move forward a make the difference. We ordered a bottle of wine at the waiters recommendation and ended up with something crisp and white, not sweet, which is exactly what we'd hoped for. There were so many options, but some of the things we tried were the roast chicken, the gnocchi and the veal. The one hiccup was that we thought we were ordering scallops and ended up with veal, but that was totally the fault of us and our translating app, so we made do and all tried it- it was amazing even though we're not even fans of veal! We miss it! This is…read moreeasily one of the best places we've been on this summers Road Trip in Italy. We stumled upon it more by accident. We planned to meet our Airb'n'B hosts here. We stayed in nearby Nicotera and didn't even know that there's a beautiful beach nearby. We ended up coming here every day - four in a row. Here's some reasons: Beach is nice, clean and quiet (even in high season). Seems still to be a secret or people might not travel that far south. Then there's the hosts of this Beach Bar. Friendly, helpful and going further than the extra mile for their customers (more of that later). Beach chairs and umbrellas cost as little as 8 Euros (two chairs, one umbrella)...for the whole day! And our dog was even allowed on the beach. And ultimately...the food. We really didn't excpect anything from it. And turned out to be wonderful fresh, daily changing fish and seafood. Perfectly cooked by the host/owner. Some of the best meals on this trip. And we've had many. At first sight the menu seems short and not very special (Spaghetti Ragu and Carbonara for example). It's because the best meals only come by request. Just ask what they got today! Can be cozze (mussels), Calamari, fish cakes, vongole etc. And it's all NOT on the menu. Luckily we've seen other locals eating it. Portions are big and quality is high. The anchovie fish cakes were delightful, fresh and savory. Vongole and Cozze fresh as well....huge plates of fantastic seafood. Few ingredients, but perfectly cooked. Calamari were fresh as well, crispy and tender! Every day we also got served some antipasti...and every day the portions got bigger and the bill got smaller! Salumi (different meat cuts) were a great choice as well. Dried and in oil preserved tomatoes, eggplants and other veggies. A realy feast. Fried potatoes with Calabrian Chillis....awesome! Drink some "Dreher" beer with it.....perfect match. Together with the chairs and umbrellas we never paid more than 40 Euros. For everything....rent, food and 6x beers! And like I said, every day we got more food for less money. They didn't have to do that...they knew we're not locals, just some tourists that might not come back for quite a while. But they did. And had some good chats with us. We really felt so welcome, almost felt like being at home with family. Great people, great food....a great experience. One of the places this year that really touched us and we miss a lot. Located on the Sant Elia mountain road, it's a typical Mom and Pop Southern Italian restaurant serving up local dishes in season from around the Calabria region. The charcuterie plate came first with cured salami, prosciutto, whole-dry red chilis and a beautiful bufala mozzarella. Second plate was spaghetti pasta in a black tinted squid sauce. Third plate was a seafood pasta with clams and vegetables and Margherita pizza. Finished the meal in typical Calabrian style with an Amaro Del Capo and a Caffe Cannizzaro.

Authentic restaurant with excellent service…read more The restaurant is difficult to see from the road but when you walk in you're met with a big smile and a nice smell from the kitchen. We ordered an antipasti plate as a starter to share (3persons). It had both cheese, various meat and sausages as well as sundried tomatoes and olives. The bread is the best I've tasted in Catalonia so far - very moist on the inside and crispy in the outside. As mains we shared two pastas - both with fish. One with swordfish and eggplant and the another with a red fish and lemon. Both were extremely tasty and we were very full after both courses. To accompany he food we enjoyed local wine served in a clay pourer. Very fruity and nice. The interior is very authentic style and the service there was extremely nice! And as many Catalonian restaurants it isn't that expensive! Extremely value for money you get here! One of the best meals on my holiday in Catalonia.

The key, as always, is in the quality of the ingredients. They try their best to have everything fresh and homemade (or locally produced), the choices on the menu might not be enormous but you know what you get and they frankly tell you everything you want to know. The cuisine is regional and well executed and as usual in southern Italy quite inexpensive for the great food you get.
