It is more of a takeout kind of spot, but there are tables for dine-in, which we used! The sushi is no-frills and affordable. We ordered several orders of yellowtail, salmon, and tuna nigiri. Hands down the best sushi I've had on the island! We ordered a sushi platter and poke everything was incredibly fresh, light, and packed with flavor. There were only two people working, and even with a line, they were so patient and kind while we took our time deciding what to order. First time trying the food and it was good. I can't speak to service or ambiance cuz my coworker picked up the food. I ordered the 3 choice bowl with kalua pig, spicy ahi and smoked salmon. I like that they serve brown rice! I think the spicy ahi could've used more spice and flavor but the smoked salmon and kalua pig was good. I'm giving this place a 2-star review, so you'll read this. Realistically, this was a 1-star experience. First, the menu (both in store and online) did not describe what was in the various sushi options which is important when you give dishes vague names that don't indicate the ingredients. Second, the staff seemed annoyed to assist us and give us any information on their menu items. Third, the portions were laughably small for the price. While the dishes were fairly tasty, it wasn't any better than so many other options. We visit Oahu frequently as this is where I was raised and where many of my friends and family still live, but we will never recommend this to anyone. There are so many other restaurants in Kailua and on the island that offer so much more in service, quality food, ambience, and value. read more

Second time here and ordered the salmon poke and spicy ahi over half hapa rice and half salad. And the icing on the cake, shrimp tempura! They offered a fountain drink with purchase too! Wow!! Very fresh fish and presented very well with the perfect portion size. So important even with poke bowls. It has to be the right amount of rice to fish. Oh my goodness, on my way to target yesterday I had to do a double take I didn't believe my eyes...but there it was, in Kailua, Local Boy Sushi! FINALLY a good sushi spot with decent prices and great hours! I had been to their other location before in Kaneohe, but man am I stoked to have this in my neighborhood. I parked across from Ulta in between there and Maui brewing close to CPK, and I walked over since it's on a major street in Kailua with no street parking, however there is plenty of parking in the Whole Foods, Longs, or down to earth parking lots. This location has seating and is really modern! Their menu is easy to understand and see with photos of everything so you don't even need to open up Yelp, ha ha ha! I've had their lava roll several times so this time I decided to grab a snack and just get a hand roll. I couldn't decide between the shrimp and spicy ahi, so the gentleman taking my order said he'd make me one with both...and oh boy was that delicious! It was $5 for that, but a normal hand roll is only $3! All of the food they were preparing looked fresh and delicious! I have a feeling I will be a frequent customer here! So happy they are so close! Flavorless, dry, and chewy poke, a serious disappointment. Dunno how this is so highly rated, maybe we got unlucky? The service was slow, but there was only one guy working the kitchen AND counter when we ordered so no fault on his part. As a simple fix, managers should hire more people? Also, perhaps intentionally, the music inside was really loud and there was little outdoor space in front of the store to escape it. If you're local, you probably know better than to go here. The kaneohe location has been on my bucket list to try for a while, so when I saw they had a location in Kailua, I was excited to finally try it since we were in the area. What a disappointment. Yes, their fish is fresh, but that is about it. The poke had no flavor, and the kalbi meat tasted a burnt (but it wasn't, so I think it might be theor grill). Also, the kalbi is tough. Their sushi roce has no flavor, and they use brown rice. Maybe this place is awesome if u are from this side of the island, but if you are not, then you are better off going to Kaneohe for your fresh fish fix. read more
