Upon learning that my local smokehouse had permanently closed, I went on a hunt for BBQ joints near my husband's job so he could pick up some take-out on his way home. Locale BBQ Post fit the bill. We called early to order ribs and sides, and by 1:15 they were already sold out of jalapeno creamed corn. So, we ordered a rack of ribs (to share), a side of mac and cheese, some cole slaw, and the meal came with a piece of cornbread. Everything I ate was awesome. The ribs were extremely tender and fell right off the bone. With a little sauce, they were perfection. The cornbread was also incredible. It was a little dry for my liking, but the sweet butter that came with it soaked right into the bread and made it taste incredible. The macaroni and cheese was pretty plain, but with a little crushed black pepper, it turned into magic. Even the cole slaw was good - and I am not a big cole slaw person. It pains me to give a negative review, especially since I've been wanting to check them out since the day they opened few years back. Service - wow could you be more indifferent? I came in hoping to be steered towards maybe some of their fast moving items or popular items, but no. I said I'm not sure what to get, and the gentleman walked away to go back to doing whatever he was doing. I ended up going with the 1/2 brisket. Hold on, ill be right back, I need to get a hunk of brisket out from my teeth. Phew! Ok back to my review. I was then asked what sauce I wanted. Since they have their own sauces, I wasn't sure which one to get so I asked for a recommendation and told the second guy I like sweet and spicy. So he grudgingly pointed to the list. Food - was really really really hoping the food would be amazing. Bc all they do is bbq, right? Boy was I off. Brisket was tougher than leather. How would you even serve this to someone? The strips cut were rock solid... dont even try to sell me that this is how brisket is supposed to be!!! Btw im struggling to finish this meal mainly bc it wasnr cheap and its food,, and i dont waste.. i might have to call my dentist after this struggle.. I wish I could review this business based on the food. Unfortunately, after checking the company's website, yelp, and the restaurant's FB page to confirm the restaurant would be open today (Sunday) at 1:00, we arrived, planning to order takeout for a large group that was in from out of town, only to discover the restaurant was closed. To me, you have a poor business structure if you don't have accurate website hours listed on your website and FB. We wasted an hour (driving time) and left all of our guests extra hungry because we had to scramble to find a second option. No clue if the food is good but the business management sucks. read more

So, what they lack in customer service they sure make up with in their delicious food. Mid afternoon Saturday it was quiet. There were two people ( could be the owners?) working and 3 customers. We were not greeted and it took ages to be served one at a time. I almost walked out. I ordered half ribs and half chicken to take home and it is outstanding. ( also chose their 'the sauce'). I don't write many reviews anymore ... I couldn't take the pressure (HA) but Locale Post has taken me out of hibernation! The Post has officially filled the large void of slow cooked BBQ in the city of Wilmington. The smell, prominent upon entry, is the first of many indicators that much time has been put in to creating perfectly crafted BBQ. First recommendation, get there early. I was rejected at the door the first time I attempted to try the place out and it wasn't just because of my shirt - they were completely SOLD OUT. Second, don't be in a rush; Quality over quantity people. They are clearly putting their craft over everything and it shows up in every bite. What I ate? I went for the Fat Camp special (FYI- that's not a real menu option) and tried a little bit of everything. Pulled Pork, Brisket, Ribs, Cornbread, and a bag to breath into for when I was finished eating. The baby back ribs were perfectly cooked and had a smoke ring straight out of BBQ USA. The brisket was so good I damn near tried to eat it with a straw - hence no pictures. It and the pork had the quintessential blackened outside with a perfectly tender, juicy inside. The brisket was pulled unlike other styles you may come across that are sliced. All three meats came with 2 types of BBQ Sauce on the side so you could really take in the flavors of the smoke/cherry wood. The regular BBQ sauce had a sweeter finish with ketchup hints. The other was a mustard based sauce. Overall, this spot is a must try! It will no doubt have countless positive reviews in no time. Mm mm mm. Call me Frank Underwood, and call the owner of this place Freddy. These ribs were delicious. Locale just opened up about a year ago. It's located in scenic Little Italy, and features a beautiful outdoor picnic table area, perfect for enjoying a Black and Mild while you eat, that reminds me of the Greenhill Deli picnic area; just less scenic, and a little more gritty. I got the wings and ribs. The wings were just so-so- too much bone, but the ribs were amazing. I really should learn that when you go to a rib place, you order just the ribs. As a side-note, the wings had barbecue sauce on them; not buffalo. The ribs were unbelievably meaty. The sauce was a little lacking (you have to put most of it on yourself), but it couldn't detract from how meaty the actual ribs were. The main gripe I have with ribs in general is that there isn't enough meat. Not a problem at Locale's. The food was also delivered ridiculously fast. Minor complaints include the lack of soda options, and the substitution of coleslaw for corn bread. WTF Locale's. If I WAS Frank Underwood, I would have murdered you by faking your suicide by leaving you in a running car with the garage closed after you drank too much. Visited for the 1st time yesterday and arrived about 30 min. prior to their 6pm closing. Ordered 1/2 lb of beef brisket and 1/2 slab of spare ribs. ($24) The younger gentleman that took my order was definitely not the friendliest behind the counter person I've met. Not rude, but coarse. Brisket was well seasoned and a tad overcooked. Brisket tasted like pot roast. Asked for spicy BBQ sauce was told that they only have hot sauce. Cole slaw was runny-lacked flavor. On the bright side, bun was delicious... This place is legit. We had the brisket sandwich and wings with some greens and house made pickles. The bun was amazing, the brisket was melt in your mouth with tons of flavour. The meat, rub and smoke were all proportional. The wings were amazing. Forget those hot wings at the bar, these are large, meaty and the so good youll be ordering them for the next big game. The food was ok but I was hoping for a better experience. We got small orders of the pork butt, ribs and briskets. The portion was very generous but the flavor was just ok. The pork could have been better seasoned and the briskets were a bit tough. The ribs were decent but the takeout packaging was done very poorly and the ribs fell unto to my car floor as I was driving home. I was looking forward to the bbq sauces but they tasted a little watered down. Not the texture I was expecting. I thought the sides were more impressive than the meat. We got the slaw, potato salad, mac&cheese, baked beans, corn bread and hush puppies. The service was also just ok. I wanted to know more about their menu of sauces but the server seemed very indifferent in promoting any of their selections. Also, the takeout packaging could have been better as I mentioned before. This place has inconsistent quality - sometimes their ribs are GREAT, other times they are NOT. (Since they rarely pick up the phone, go in person to place your order with the indifferent counter-help.) I think I would have rated this place a little better if I felt more comfortable in the restaurant. I was the only customer, and was looking for a few different types of meat, but I didn't need an entire pound, and because the menu was limited, I was forced to buy something I really didn't want. Anyways, I thought the brisket sandwich was done well. It wasn't dry, which I have experienced at a local BBQ place in New Jersey, and the sauce (in my case, it was vinegar) was on the side. The absolute best part of the meal was the collard greens. They were very tender, and perfectly cooked. I also liked the pickles and the coleslaw that came with the brisket, but I couldn't rate it more than this. Went to Locale BBQ Post on Saturday. Had read some rave reviews and had to try it. I cook BBQ in competition (KCBS) and have been a certified BBQ judge for 25 years. Got there early and ordered a little of everything (brisket, pork, ribs, buns, beans, slaw, jalapeño creamed corn). Glad I arrived early...the place was soon packed. The storefront is snappy and inviting. Their sign is really cool...I understand it was handcrafted by a friend of the owners. The only seating is two picnic tables outside...everythjng is to go. Service was pretty good and fast although the guys on the serving line seemed a bit scattered and edgy. Now for the food...the ribs were the best by far. Tender and juicy, but lacking a smoky flavor. Did not like the seasonings at all. The brisket was sad...mushy and way, way overcooked. No smoke flavor and really not much taste. I later learned that they only cook it on the smoker for about four hours and then throw it in a pan covered with foil and put it in the oven to finish. That's why it was mushy and flavorless...they steamed all the goodness away. That's NOT the way to cook brisket! Unless you can watch them slice it fresh in front of you, avoid it at all costs. The pulled pork was bone dry. Also lacked a good smoke flavor and the seasonings were off, just like the ribs. But you can always add sauce to moisten it up, right? My advice is to pick up a bottle of Stubbs BBQ sauce and leave theirs alone. Two sauce options at Locale are: bad and worse. One is stick, chunky and too sweet and the other is a South Carolina-type mustardy type. It was bitter and salty. The slaw was ok, but needed some punch...a bit of vinegar or lemon juice would help a lot. The beans were right of a can...help! And the jalapeño creamed corn was n9t good at all. It looked like a sauce with little niblets floating around in it. Need to start over with this recipe. This little place.has a lot of potential, but the owners obviously are not hard core BBQ people. The cooker they use is a Southern Pride (natural gas fueled with a small firebox for a couple of pieces of oak wood). Its an ok cooker that is used by many BBQ restaurants. I would advise the owners to: use hickory wood, leave the meat on the cooker until it's done (no steaming in the oven), work on the flavor profiles of their rubs and sauces, start over with the sides. read more

After living in North Carolina for several years, I got used to having good BBQ around and I really missed it. I was happy to hear about Locale and was eager to try it out. I went in to grab some take out. I opted for the brisket sandwich and some Mac and cheese. At $14 total ($9 for the sandwich, $5 for Mac) this was a real splurge for lunch. The smell of smoked pork was so delicious and lingered in my senses as I drove away with my food, it had me wishing I had ordered pork instead of beef. When I finally go to eat the sandwich it was good brisket and lots of meat. It was good, but the smell of the pork was still more amazing. My experience with the side was a different story...When I order mac and cheese, it's usually the cheese that I'm after. In this case, the cheese was almost non-existent, it was more like mac and grease and paprika. Clearly this is a meat place, so at $5 an order for most sides, I would recommend just sticking with meat. I really want to try the pork ribs and see if they live up to the scent. read more

Real damn good barbecue. The wife and I split a pound of brisket and sampled their bacon & cheddar biscuits, hush puppies, baked beans, and collard greens. The biscuits were fluffy and flavorful, the hush puppies surprisingly spicy (Old Bay & jalapeno?) but well made, baked beans were smoky, and the collard greens are exactly what I expect Southern style. As for the brisket itself, it was juicy and smoked perfectly and the homemade sauces complimented it well. We got the original which is tangy and the white sauce which was creamy with horseradish and REALLY worked well on the brisket. The staff was super friendly and everyone came away extremely impressed. This will be another regular local (heh) spot for us! read more

Came here for the first time with high expectations and they were not only met, but completely blown away. I ordered 1/2 pound of pork and 1/2 of brisket. Both portions came with coleslaw, pickles, and mustard/BBQ sauce. I also had some of the ribs and the cornbread that my friend ordered. Every single item was delicious, but that Brisket was next level. Really nice bark/meat/fat ratio. I'm much more pork over brisket guy, but Locale Post has the brisket nailed. The ribs were very good as well, no sauce is served on the rib which I appreciated since I don't like my ribs all sauced up. Delicious!!!They open at 11:00. I got there just about Noon. I got their next to last rack of ribs. THEY WERE ALREADY SOLD OUT. and for a good reason. The ribs are juicy, smoky, and a little peppery. I haven't even tried the sauce. Also got brisket and wings. The brisket was just as good as were the wings. The wings... Big and juicy. Not just a drum not just a middle. The whole wing. Awesome! Hands down the best BBQ in Delaware! The meats are always perfectly tender yet crispy on the outside. Never any weird pieces of fat or bone. Sides hit the spot like they should. Every time I've been there they have all the meat options available unlike most bbq spots. My only suggestion would be to have some more sauce choices and a slightly thicker consistency but the sauces they have now are still really good. I was hesitant to leave this review, because I truly want the best for local businesses. The food was absolutely incredible and easily deserves 5 stars, but the young man behind the counter was so rude that I deducted a star. I had trouble hearing what he was saying because he was mumbling and had a tight fitting cotton mask, and he got very angry at me for this? Although I was as polite as possible. Not sure what I did to deserve that backlash. Even before that, he just seemed like my presence was bothering him and he was angry that I would even dare come to the restaurant. Very off putting. Thankfully, the food was so amazing that I'm willing to give it another shot; hopefully someone else is behind the counter. But this guy seriously needs to be spoken to by management. read more
