Stopped by here randomly to grab a bottle of wine on the way home. Very cool wine shop connected to…read morethe restaurant next door. I hadn't stopped in here, because it doesn't seem that approachable - it certainly projects itself to be a higher end wine shop. That turns out to be true, it is a little more high end feeling - though ultimately the employees were super approachable and very helpful. I think it is a little on the snooty side, but if you are prepared for that - then this is a good shop. Despite the higher end feel, it does appear as though they educate the public that comes in, there are maps of wine regions, the grapes grown in those regions, and advertisements for wine tastings. This is the place that you go in to find a bottle of special wine, something specific or to learn a bit more. It's definitely not a warehouse, and doesn't pretend to be. That said, the prices didn't seem outrageous, just slightly higher than other stores - but given the types of wine and the service, it's worth it.

Bottoms Up is a place for real wine enthusiasts. I figured from the outside that it was a big shop…read moreand once inside I could see that they made the most of the space. There were hundreds of wines to choose from, all organised by type and country of origin. The gentleman behind the counter was most sociable and was able to speak with authority when giving me advice on which of their wide selection would suit my tastes. He even promised that if I did not like the one he recommended I could bring that bottle back and swap it for something else which made me reassured and that the shop care about customer's wine experience rather than just making sales. For those who don't like wine there are beers, ales and alchopops on offer as well as spirits and mixers. Bottoms Up run promotions and special offers which are displayed in the windows and are always worth checking out if you are on your way to a party.

It is not exciting, you will not be surprised by what you find, but the likelihood is that you will find what you are looking for - probably not the brand you were after though, give them a break, this is not an expansive store and shelf space is at a premium. It seems to be open all the time, and actually houses the local ATM machine inside - good tip for those short on cash and craving some of that old folding money.

This small convenience store is extremely convenient for those living in Chesterfield Gardens, or…read morethe road opposite, who can't be bothered to walk to do their shopping. The selection of products is ok, and there's even a small meat counter but the layout is overly crammed and chaotic, making finding what you need frequently a challenge. Not a bad selection of chilli sauces though. Their veg selection is average, and often looks a bit worse for wear, but if you just need a few onions or something then it's fine. They also do toiletries, washing powder and so on, and there's a unit full of Polish groceries. However, if you've ever needed to buy someone a glass sword full of Armenian brandy, this is the place to come. Hanging above the tills are various novelty glass shapes full of the stuff. I spotted a fish and a donkey as well, but the glass sword was always one I fancied for the living room, but, predictably, was never drunk enough to buy. Despite trying for the best part of 3 years, I singularly failed to get the staff to crack a smile. Come on guys, cheer up - you've got a sword full of brandy! How cool is that?!
