Fast forward 2 months and I am 7 weeks pregnant, sick with the flu (fever/vomiting), and barely able to get to the place (train+taxi) let alone enjoy it. We arrived and let the staff know that only my husband would join for the dinner and that I wasn't feeling well and didn't want to get others sick. Obviously the pregnancy and illness aren't their fault and the terms of the sale indicated it was non-refundable. However, at fine dining establishments in the US they've often had a clause for illness or other reasons to adjust the reservation - I consider this to be a part of great customer service. Considering we paid nearly 2,000 euros for this experience, I was surprised they wouldn't even refund my wine pairing (170 euros) as even if I wasn't sick, I wouldn't have been able to partake in it due to pregnancy. They gave us a credit for future use that expires in one year, which is comical since I will still be pregnant or with a newborn for that full year. Obviously they know how to cook here, but the customer service made what was already a tough day (missing my dream foodie experience and being bed-ridden on a beautiful estate) even more frustrating.

Be sure to try the tortellini en brodo, tagietelle with bolognese ragu, veal bolognese, and beef cheek. The beef cheek is perfectly tender, flavorful, and succulent in a rich jus that still feels light. The veal chop is juicy and coated in a crispy breading topped with a thin slice of prosciutto and cheese. The pastas are v wet h solid executions of classics. It's a fanatic option if you are doing a quick trip to Bologna as it puts you in the middle of it all.

The location is not particularly appealing - it's in a commercial district and surrounded by roads so I guess their main business is from the attached conference centre. There is a shopping area across a busy road that has a couple of restaurants if you're feeling adventurous. The room was pretty well appointed and better than I expected; it sported all the required amenities apart from a minibar and trouser press. No wardrobe as such, but two hanging rails and plenty of hangers. The bed was large and comfy, the bathroom nice and roomy with a big corner shower. The room price was very reasonable at 49 Euros per night including Continental breakfast. You really can't complain at those prices, although presumably it gets more expensive in high season. The conference centre is in a separate wing from the bedrooms, accessible only from the main reception so non-resident delegates are kept away from the guest bedrooms. It has two floors, both with large rooms that could be subdivided into two or three smaller areas with sliding partitions. As I was staying over the night after the conference, I took the chance to eat in the hotel restaurant as I was too tired to consider heading into town. At 7.30pm I was the only person in it, although over the next hour or so another 3 or 4 diners appeared. You couldn't call it busy though. For starters I had a salmon risotto, followed by a tuna steak with sesame and miso dressing. The risotto was tasty, although a bit too creamy for my taste. The tuna steak was certainly impressive in size, but was sadly a bit over-cooked. The server had not asked how I wanted it cooked, but even so it's surely not that difficult to get right. Parts of it were fine with a nice juicy centre, but most of it was distinctly on the chewy side. I'd have no hesitation about staying here again in future as the standard of the hotel was very good; however I would certainly think twice about having an evening meal in their restaurant again.

Ravenna is about an hour away on the Autostrada, and I'd been there before to see some of the sights. Location is not great for tourism, but I had a rental car and wanted to venture out. As an auto enthusiast I wanted to visit Modena, Maranello, and Sant Agata for Ferrari and Lamborghini (FYI Maserati is closed on weekends) - the museums were within 40 minutes of the hotel. Free parking at the hotel was a plus. My room was modern and clean. Great for my short stay. The breakfast buffet is very nice, and dinner was good, as well. Overall, the price and property were very good for my needs. If I were visiting the historic area, I would probably want to stay closer to the center of town. No complaints from my stay here.

And it was in fact two rooms so we could close the door between the bedroom and have the living room for late night writing or email when the other one of us was sleeping. For the most part it was a quiet room though there were films showing in the main square every night we were there and the sound could be heard until about midnight in our room which wasn't ideal but that was also about when we were going to sleep so it worked out. Breakfast was great and our favorite hotel breakfast in Italy. They brought a basket of gluten free items for my wife and the subsequent days we were there they remembered us and automatically brought the gluten free basket and remembered our coffee order as well. Felt like very personal service. The staff was really nice too and gave us good restaurant recommendations. We would definitely stay here again.

If you have a car, this shouldn't be a problem, except cars have limited access in the city, so it might be better for you to take the bus into the city anyways. The front desk staff were helpful in advising us on what to do and where to go / eat. They provide a shuttle to the airport as well, which is convenient!

We were told that there was a restaurant/tavern above the room. Brilliant decision for a location where people are supposed to sleep. - Although we parked the car in hotel parking lot, the car was moved and was parked on the street at 3:40 am. All without asking permission. Very professional and safe decision. To offer fair and complete perspective, we presented verbal and written complaints and, in summary, the hotel response has been "We apologize, you have to pay full price anyhow, we will cover parking costs of 25E and we offer you a one level upgraded room next time you visit again". Have travelled for 40+ years, internationally, and always in 4/5 stars hotels. Never seen such a un-professional management and response. In summary very unpleasant experience, overall hotel quality absolutely not at the level of the 200+ Euro price and very passive/un-professional staff attitude.
