    Food and Drink Fest
    Carolyn M.

My parents, the boyfriend and I went to the Loch Lomand Food and Drink Festival that was on last weekend. What a beautiful day to show the parents Loch Lomand and even better that there was a food and drink fest on to boot. There were loads of tents set up in the sun, selling all sorts of local and not so local goodies. Both my parents and my boyfriend and I bought a bit of fruit from the local farmers who were set up, we bought some scones for a wee snack later, my dad bought some smoked fish, my boyfriend bought some Stornoway black pudding and we were able to sample loads of things including mac and cheese, cheeses, spicy ginger beer, etc. My boyfriend and I also considered buying some English made solid wood outdoor furniture for our patio, but decided to wait because we'd rather have Scottish made products if we can. We didn't stay long, just to walk back and forth a few times to buy those things before we headed to Luss, but before we did leave, we all bought smoked sausages that were for sale- so delicious We really enjoyed our day out here.

Loch Lomond is one of my fave places in Scotland and the shores is a great addition. I have been here quite a few times as there is always something going on from farmers markets to festive fun. There is plenty of parking available at the front entrance with large overspill car parks. Jenners is the main retail outlet here and although you do pay slightly more for items than say in city centre stores for the same products it's still a lovely place to shop. There are loads of other retail outlets with one of my favourites being misty glen that have some beautiful and unique gifts. Plenty of options for eating and drinking although I was so sad to see the recent closure of the Dug Cafe.

Plentiful parking Amazing location Plenty of choice for stores and food Sea life centre, Segway tours, road train rides You can take the kids and spend a fortune or spend nothing just let them play around the loch and the play park. Great views.

All of this for £8! Food festival bargain!

The Oak Mall is really small (hey I'm a poet and I didn't know it!) and has really rubbish versions of high street stores. For example the Oak Malls Topshop has to be the worst branch I have ever been in! It is so tiny and doesn't have any of the most fashion forward, cool lines. There are a few of those really tacky "tween" shops that I love to hate such as Quiz, Unique and Internacionale, if that's you kind of thing, if it is, why?? The Oak Mall does have one of the few Adams stores left in the UK which is maybe worth a visit if you have kids. Also the Bodycare, Semi Chem and Sally Hair and Beauty stores are good for picking up cheap but branded beauty products. I still wouldn't say it's worth the trip out to the mall just for a hand full of sort of ok stores.

Nowadays, there's more life in the deer i clipped with my car last night than in this place. Poundshops-a-plenty and near on 5/6 card shops (really?) as well the Oak Mall doesn't have much going for it. Empty shops and poor ones litter the once bustling West Blackhall St. For any Greenockian, this part of town lost its appeal as soon as it become closed over and refered to as "The Mall" - no character remains, sadly. I really hope the council pour some serious money into our local shopping centre by getting it back to basics

It's a lovely stop along the outdoor Buchanan Street pedestrian mall. With four levels, lots of retail, a few restaurants, and one great chocolatier, Princes Square Shopping Centre is worth a few hours of shopping for the ladies on vacation in Glasgow. The facility is just steps from the St. Enoch subway station on the Inner Line if you need a reference to the metro stops.

This is an upmarket shopping centre which has more expensive high street shops like Reiss, Ted Baker, Vivienne Westwood and Cos (which I'm still yet to check out!). The centre is certainly decorated to match the crowd it's looking to attract - glitzy, glam and always clean and tidy. I like the size of the centre as well - it's very dinky but still has lots of shops and is easy to navigate. There's also a host of restaurants, bars and cafés but I'll be honest - I've not visited many of them. I ate at Barca probably 4 years ago and also one of the places on the bottom floor but I think that's changed hands. One down side is that if you are dining at a restaurant on the lower level, parents will tend to let their kids run riot in the centre circle which can be a bit of a mood-killer. Princes Square doesn't have a car park due to its location but it is really close to train and subway. If you do really fancy driving, probably St Enoch or Mitchell Street are the closest car parks.

Now that I have found it I like the drive and enjoy the shopping more. There are not masses of shops at this outlet centre, but I do like the Nike and Addidas shops as well as the Paper Mill and the Childrens designer clothes shop (sorry the name escapes me). For a long time I only used to make this a very short visit as the cafe was abismal however BB's now has a coffee shop and very nice it is too so we tend to head out here for coffee or lunch time and spend a wee while browsing around. The outlet shops that can be found here are Nike (which we have found to be better than the smaller Livingston store), Adidas (lots of bargains to be found at this store!), The Works, Zavvi, The Paper Mill and lots of mens stores including Lee and Wrangler. We have also registered online for a card which gives you money off in a lot of the stores there. Parking is very good, with disabled and child spaces available. There is also a little coffee shop, which we feel is overpriced, most probably as it's the only one there and has a monopoly over the place! Most months of the year they have a little market where you can buy locally produced bread and cakes, and other food products. You could find something yummy to eat on the slightly long drive home. If you are into sports clothing, even walking clothing then Sterling Mills is well worth a visit.
