Boy was I WRONG!! The place has state of the art ceiling ventilation and I never noticed that people around me were smoking. But here's is the ONLY thing you need to know about posh bar... The bartender Micheal (German: "MEE-SCHY-ELLE") is actually the owner! But he's super humble about it and won't admit it unless you pry it out of him. He spent years in Miami learning his craft and has pioneered a "Cheers (TV show)" style approach to experience management. This is rare in Berlin. His masterpiece bar is THE BEST time you can have in Berlin without even knowing it! Why? Every customer is treated as if they are an old time friend COMING HOME after a long time away. This means that Michael (or the other bar tender Martin) might tease you, or even insult you, or seemingly act indifferent.... What they're actually doing is giving you a special opportunity to throw it back to them -- to tell your personal story, be honest and comfortable, and feel like you're at home with your childhood best friends. Do this!! Tell Michael your story. Open up. You'll get access to special off the menu drinks. You'll get special stories about crazy patrons. You'll get a place where you and your friends are treated like you've been regulars since you were teenagers. Make sure to ask Michael and Martin about crazy shit they've seen in Berlin! You will laugh your ass off! This place is a treasure, and a MUST-VISIT for anybody looking to have an "only in Berlin" experience. (Oh, yeah, the drinks are super cheap! You can get drunk on 20 Euros here.)

One person in my party ran the marathon, and needless to say, they were very hungry. Between us, we had ordered the pig knuckles (it was huge - about the size of someone's head), schnitzel, and a meatball dish. All the dishes we had were very reasonably priced for the amount of food it was. We all enjoyed our food, and it seemed like it was a great taste into German food (can't be sure it is authentic since I'm not German myself, but judging by how everyone else in the restaurant was speaking German, I think it wasn't a tourist trap). The ambience of the restaurant was stellar. It was located on a quiet side street near a park, and a bit hard to find since it was off the main roads and was raining the night we went there. The walls of the restaurant were adorned with many old pictures and posters dating back to the 1930s or so. The restaurant had a front room, and also a fairly large back room that isn't immediately obvious when you enter. The whole feeling of the place was one of a historic, quaint old German pub. The feeling was magnified by the fact that the waitress did not speak any English, so you can tell that not many groups of entirely foreigners wandered their way over to here (luckily one member of my party spoke enough German for us to get by). Please note that I think this restaurant is cash only!

It's a nice local bar, 90% of people here spoke German which is always a very good sign, especially for a centrally located place like this. So this is not catering just for tourists. Dunkel weissbeer cost me 4€, did not try the food. Would I return? Yeah I would, quite well located nice place offering decent beer
