I read about the Drop & Go service online but wanted to ask the tourist information centre across from the Amsterdam Centraal Station to see my options. The tourist information centre said it's either the locker from the train station or the Drop & Go location, which is conveniently located just across the canal behind the tourist information centre, to the left of the church. The entrance can be hard to find because it's a basement location but they do have ramps for luggage to wheel down. The staff was super friendly. When I arrived, the girl staff let me take my time to transfer stuff from my backpack to the laptop bag before storing it for 5 euros. She also gave suggestions on what to visit based on my situation. When I returned 3 hours later, the girl was now accompanied by a guy staff. He heard that I'm heading to the airport and offered to check the flight information from Schiphol airport's website for me and print the boarding pass proactively without me asking for this service. It was his initiative which allowed me to find out that my gate was changed and which departure area would be closest to my gate. That alleviates my stress so I don't have to worry about finding departure information once I arrive at the airport. I would absolutely recommend this service to other tourists and I would personally use this service again if I need to store items for short term in Amsterdam.

Yelp 2023 Review #2:…read more Located in Museumplein is this locker/ luggage storage service. Which is convenient especially if you have a lot of stuff with you and you just want to be able to go to museums in the area (Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Moco, Stedelijk Museum) hassle-free. No human contact. It's all automated. All you need is a credit card and follow the prompts on the screen. You will be assigned a locker number, set up a pin and choose the length of time you need the locker for (up to 24 hours) - I suggest taking a picture of your locker but you'll also get an email with your locker number and the PIN you selected. The locker is a good size - you can probably fit 5 big backpacks in there so, if you're traveling with a group, just share a locker to save money. In my case, I rented a locker because it was pouring all day in Amsterdam and I came straight from the airport. My backpack was getting soaked so a locker was necessary. I paid 9 Euros for 24 hours - I wasn't sure how many hours I needed it for. But you can definitely rent by the hour.

We had a room looking at the canals and train station and still heard nothing at night. And, the air conditioning was superb!! The hotel itself was very funky and fun, with a hip artsy vibe, including an art installation downstairs. Check in was easy and friendly and they let us in the room early, since we were checking out at 6am the next day to catch our flight home. Room was spacious and beautiful. The only downside I would mention is that there is no door to the bathroom area, which make sit hard to start getting ready without waking up a sleeping partner. Attractive bar and restaurant inside, free bikes to borrow, refreshing water in the lobby, a bottle of water in the room, and coffee and tea available, as well. And the event was a rave that lasted well into the night. We got back to the hotel at about 2230 and as we walked in the music was blaring. Which fine I get that, but midnight had gone and last and I phoned up reception and I was told it was ending at 1 in reality it ended closer to 1:30am. I sternly said that this is not ideal for a hotel with people trying to sleep. I was never told this would be happening else we would have chosen to stay somewhere else.

This location is right in the heart of all the action, and every major spot to hit within the city is within walking distance or a quick tram ride away. I had never stayed in a hostel before, so I was a bit nervous based on stories from friends in other crowded cities. The check-in process was very easy. I booked through hostelworld and they just needed a passport to verify, then gave me the entrance key, house rules, and directions to my room. I stayed in a co-ed room with about 20 other people. Each bed was in bunk form with clean sheets and pillows with plenty of secure space to keep luggage underneath and an outlet to charge devices on the wall. The showers were clean and I felt like I had privacy while changing as well. The atmosphere at night was awesome. During my first night, I met four people each from a different area of the United States/England and we ended up bar hopping together. What an experience that was! The nightly rates are only a few more bucks than other similar ones, but I can assure you that they do not have the energy like the downtown Flying Pig does!

But, we were so disappointed in this hostel that my friend and I canceled our later pod hostel in this trip and swore we will never stay in another dorm room again, only private rooms for us from now on! Firstly, we unfortunately missed our first night as our flight canceled the day of and the next earliest one was the next morning. We were not upset at not being refunded the first night as we understand this is policy. However, when we arrived the next day we were not allowed to check in! They said the rooms were being cleaned. Well... if we were staying there we would be allowed access to the room anyways? Unless they just kick out everyone every morning? VERY strange. We then had to PAY for luggage storage. I've visited 20 countries, stayed in Hostels in every one, and NEVER heard of being charged for luggage storage. This is such a rip off. And of course, the luggage storage only accepted coins, not cash or card. So inconvenient to your travelers! The attached bathroom to the room only has a rain shower and sink, no toilet. You have to walk to the communal one outside the room to use the toilet. And these rain showers they brag about? They turn off automatically after only 5 seconds! Not a relaxing shower at ALL! When we were packing up the next morning, a half hour before check out time the receptionist actually came INTO our room and said, "Girls, everyone ready for check out?" Excuse me? I'm not on a school trip. I'm a paying customer here. The pod was comfortable, but VERY small. Other ones I've stayed in had room for your suitcase and your bed to sleep. Not this one and there aren't enough lockers for everyone. The rooms are tiny as are the pods. The one receptionist was nice and helped us carry luggage up as the stairs are VERY steep with no railing. This may be the worst hostel in which I've ever stayed.

On this visit, I chose Cocomama for part of the trip. Cocomama is close to Fredericksplein, which is the main artery for some hip places you'll want to go. It is near the city centre, but not too close, otherwise it gets tacky. The ladies at the front desk are friendly and helpful. They give you a full tour of the hostel, which was once a brothel. Just my luck... In the basement, there is a nice lounge area with shared kitchen and dining space. Lots of lovely couches to fall asleep on and a beautiful cat to keep you company. There is also a garden and you can go out there from 9AM - 9PM, only cigarette smoking allowed. Tons of books, movies to keep you entertained. You can also play old-school Nintendo. Wow brings back memories. They will also do your laundry for €6. If you don't have a tablet or computer, they can loan you one. Good wifi throughout the hostel. If you arrive before check-in time, you can leave your bag and check-in later, the front desk open 9AM - 9PM. I stayed in a 4 bed coed room aptly named, "The Brothel Room." Beds are comfy and also there are lockers in the room if you need to lock up something. The bathroom is in the room, so not as big of a hassle to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. My only gripe is that they don't serve breakfast. It is probably one of the only places I've stayed at in Amsterdam that doesn't have breakfast. Bummer...

The hostel provided a fun environment for our two night stay and we were able to meet people visiting Amsterdam from all over. Unfortunately, the day after we checked out of the hostel my room mate woke up with bed bug bites all over her back and on her face. I understand that this is the risk you take when staying in a hostel, however I always expect for the staff to do thorough examinations of every bed before a new guest checks in. We immediately alerted Coco Mama via email about the bed bug situation. We told them about the time and money that we lost having to dry clean everything we brought into their hostel and asked for them to check the beds we stayed in. I received a response telling me that unfortunately things like this happen in hostels. There was no apology or mention of a partial refund for our stay. I reached out two more times about the situation and inquired about a refund and got no response. I find this to be completely unprofessional and telling of Coco Mama. It's unfortunate that what started out as a great stay ended up costing us time, more money, and a bad case of bed bug bites. I would not recommend staying at this hostel.

We did have to wander around quite a bit to find the bar that contained liquor, but we were persistent! Airport was clean and all employees we encountered were pleasant. When the Schengen line was totally clear, I hoped they would start taking people from our line; no such luck. The gentleman who helped us was nice, but it took way too long to get to him. It is very convenient that the train station is right there in the airport, though I wish the platform system was made a bit more clear no the kiosks when buying tickets. For those of us who don't have this type of transit in our home cities (Los Angeles), it made transportation tough. I was traveling with my family, including my 22-month-old son and another young child. We waited in line for well over two hours, and by the time we got through, we were literally running to our gate and barely made our flight. The stress was overwhelming. What made the experience even worse was the lack of air conditioning. The terminal was extremely hot, my toddler was exhausted, crying, and struggling in the heat, yet there was no assistance to be found. When we tried to ask for help, the staff we encountered were rude and showed very little empathy. I understand that airports can be busy, but families traveling with small children should not have to endure hours in line without support, especially in uncomfortable conditions. This was by far the most stressful airport experience I've ever had, and because of it, I will avoid connecting through Amsterdam in the future. I sincerely hope Schiphol takes these concerns seriously and improves the experience for families and other travelers.
