Grand Jury. I got the summons in the mail a while ago and turned up for the day. The first day…read moreyou are on the second floor in a huge courtroom with perhaps 150 chairs. Big chairs and reasonably comfortable. Which is a good thing as you will be there for a while. They go through the Grand Jury expectations and then ask people who don't think they can don't to go forward. Half the room stands up. Maybe more. And they go stand in line. I don't know what they all said to get out of it, but it took forever. They really ought to let the rest of us go for 30 min or whatever rather than having us sit there for this ridiculous process. The judge pretty much let them all out of it. I don't know why they bother to have them tell their reason individually actually. Why not just say "you can all go" and be done with it? Those of us left, perhaps 50, are the ones they will pick 2 grand juries out of. Each grand jury has 23 people so the odds are really not in your favor by this time. But fine. It's your civic duty. Once we have been put into our seats, jury A or B, they take us downstairs and give us a whole "here's what to expect" type thing. That was informative. A little rote by the presenter, but informative. Then we left for the day. Out by around 1 I think. Ok. The next day the fun really starts. A grand jury day starts at 9:30. They ask you to be there around 9:15 to get through building security and to checkin. Then the cases start. In come the Assistant DAs in a steady stream with witnesses etc. fascinating. You can also see the DAs who know how to do it and those that are learning. The cases are all kinds, DUI, robbery, identity theft, drugs, you name it we may have seen it over the month. It's a month long process but you work 3 days a week. And they tell you in advance the days you need to be there. If you have something pressing one afternoon you can work it out with your foreman and get excused for that afternoon. As long as there are 19 (I think) in the room they can present the cases to the jury. This is a very cool process. We live in a great country that makes the people part of the process. I'd do this again in a heartbeat, even though some of it was a little boring. Most of it was important and interesting. I even learned a lot about driving rules and when police can pull you over, and what can happen once they do pull you over. I don't really know if this is "As good as it gets" because I'd prefer it if we didn't need the system at all. But gem the system, "I'm a fan".

I used to live right around here (in East Buffalo, but minutes from Cheektowaga), so I had my share of run-ins. But one instance was worse than all the others. We were treated like the most wanted criminals just because of expired stickers that my gf forgot all about. So, the Cheektowaga police pulled me and my girlfriend over, and she was a few days past her inspection sticker, or was it registration - I forget. You would expect that she'd get a ticket, right? She didn't. The car was towed. I had to walk home. She was put in jail. She was bailed out by her brother hours later because I didn't have the money to bail her out.. It cost her a massive amount of money. She had to get the car out of the impound. She is a bill-paying tax-paying good girl who occasionally forgets to pay x or y, and then remembers when they remind her. She isn't very good at staying on top of things, so to speak ;) What I'm saying is, that's what the Cheektowaga Police are spending your money on. And that's what they do to make money. This was a few years ago, perhaps things are better now? I wouldn't bet on it. Ugly way of doing things. No wonder a lot of people don't like them. I've had many great experiences with the Buffalo PD. Amherst PD not so much. Clarence PD absolutely not. UB PD the absolute worst... but Cheektowaga, not too far off. One star.

Its a new building (largely paid for by parking/speeding tickets no doubt) on Union, with a fabulous parking situation. The Court and Police are in the same driveway, but the signs indicated the police may be in a different building, I'm not sure. we were there for the court. You walk into the building and there is a (no joke) armed guard, and a scanner for your purse, briefcase whatever and you walk through a metal detector. Seriously? Little high tech for a small court house? Nevermind paranoid? Just sayin'. * Here's where the three stars comes in * But, while you are emptying pockets and putting purses into the scanner, someone else just walks right through, scanner goes off, and the guard does nothing. Now I get he may know the guy, but why on earth would he just let him walk through in front of a short line of people, set off the scanner and not blink? I assume it was an attorney (it was not a policeman in uniform), and I assume he was not carrying a gun, perhaps only his keys, but I don't really care how much you go in and out in a day, you should set an example to the rest by doing it the right way. You are after-all, an officer of the court. If this man was not some sort of officer of the court then I really don't know what to say. If you are going to bother with the time, expense and hassle of the system, then at least make it consistent and frankly, "SAFE FOR ALL". But once inside, this would go back to 4 stars, the lines were very short, they were fast and the people behind the bullet proof glass were pleasant enough. No issues there, they also provide a receipt without prompting etc. Leaving was much easier than going in, there is a different door to exit through. Overall I admire the police and law enforcement in general, I understand gun laws and generally support these types of organizations, in thought and pocketbook. But this experience really left me uncomfortable, I would not want to sit jury in a courthouse where not everyone got the same level of scrutiny as I did.

They r the exact type of ppl that can make a regular disadvantaged person go crazy and do things they wouldn't typically. I have no idea why they act so above everything and it's clear they hate their jobs but damn fine just give the job to someone like me who would care and help and want to service everyone and anyone then. The 1st time I went there I was quite lost about filing a motion to my case, so I talked to a person called Wally (according to another worker) He literally states: ''what do you want me to do?'', ''I can't do anything'', ''we do not give legal advice or call no one'', ''Go talk to your ex and you ask him to pay the owed amount'' (I was in a domestic violence situation). The 2nd time I went to ask for my file which took like 2 weeks to arrive. The 3rd time, yesterday was awful! I went to pick up my file and asked to file a motion to the guy that attended me; my bad luck this worker calls Wally and gives him my file, I asked him: ''I need to get a copy of my file and file a motion'' immediately he interrupts me and do not listen to me, saying ''No we cannot help you'', ''Go somewhere else!'' I was so upset I told him I'm not talking to him anymore because he is so rude, ignoring me and talking and laughing with other workers in my face, I was like this stupid behaviour from adults? I talked to a nicer girl at the entrance that told me ''You can file a motion, but it is gonna get rejected'' I left! and hopefully I never go there anymore! A lot of people were already in line to go in but I think there might be a lot more people. The tour was pretty much a self guided tour. The architecture and interior design are stunning and gorgeous. It is nice to see what a courtroom looks like outside of jury duty. There are volunteers who will help you if you have any questions. They have a survey/feedback to get ideas for improvements and what to do with Old City Hall since it's sitting mostly empty. A Slight Ceveat: It is an older building that accessed mainly by stairs so it's pretty limited accessibility.

I am fascinated by big buildings of all kind and this gothic palace-like structure did not disappoint the eye. Not fully aware of its historical background, I can imagine how long it's been capturing the attention of passersby. It stopped me in my tracks, literally. There's something about it that speaks strength and solid foundation. The way that it's immovable as it occupies its own space. The pointed columns and the clock tower - i love it!!! Old City Hall - "old" in this case will always contain elements of 'new' because it gets better with age!

The building is so impressive that you want to see it from a distance first and come close and touch it next. It's facade from terracotta is beautiful like a wedding dress. It is not too tall or too short. It is rich but not kitschy. Once you see this red beauty you will never forget the feeling of admiration and you will wonder - where did the true craftsmanship disappear?

It was one of the first skyscrapers in town. Sullivan and Adler were the design team. It started as an idea by Mr Taylor, but he passed before it was completed, and the Guaranty Construction Company took it over. They named it after themselves, but it was supposed to be "The Taylor Building" when thought of by Mr Taylor. Timing was perfect. It was a specutlative building, located near the courthouses and other downtown businesses so getting tenants was not a concern. In addition, Buffalo was just getting electricity from Niagara Falls at this time, so it was all illuminated. The outside of the building has hieroglyphics on the walls, and depictions of Egyptian Temples all around. The red terracotta stood (and still stands) out. Sullivan felt this would increase the "curb appeal" for prospective tenants. Listed as a National Historic Landmark, it remains one of the 50 tallest structures in Buffalo.

The building is old and the cafeteria is not that good. There are other court houses around the country that provide better food service or have much newer facilities. However, I should point out that the state of new york does a good job of running the jury service. The parking choices are poor. So you have to find a parking spot early and walk to the courthouse. The cost for daily parking is eight to $10 a day.

Central Jury Room. Uncomfortable. Long tables and hard chairs. They say there's WiFi access and computer work station. The work station consists of that same table and hard chair - but you have to sit next to the window since there's a surge protector on the window sill. Parking: I parked in the Civic Center out of convenience. Heated garage and access directly to the Hall of Justice. Down side is it cost $10 a day (and I was only there for 4 hours). Bring your own food, coffee, water, snacks. There's a small cafe at one end of the building but I didn't venture out. $10 for parking and that wonderful $40 a day...

It looks more like it was just built in Frankfurt or Hong Kong or any one of the shiny new downtowns full of skyscrapers around the world. As glorious as it looks, I don't like what goes on here. I've only been in and out of here once, but I don't like the way I was treated, not on the way in, not while inside, and not by mail before and after that day. In fact I find the whole system to be a little corrupt, but in Buffalo and NY State in general, the problem is quite deep-rooted.
