Good food, terrible drinks, and service needs to be way better!!! Nestled amongst a nice apartment complex in Newcastle, you cannot miss Loco Chon. Here's a very honest review. Pros: Ambience is very buzzing. It's got a nice vibe. Food is great. We got the fried cauliflower for appetizer. The batter was thin like a tempura. Wasn't a big fan of the buffalo sauce though-- I would have expected like a nice salsa. For mains, we got the veggie tacos, salad, and a fried chicken with cilantro/lime rice. Great portions and banging flavors. They don't skimp on ingredients. The prices are a little higher but the quantity is enough for a really hungry adult. We had a lot of leftovers. Cons: Parking situation-- I will be honest. I won't pay for parking in an apartment complex in a city like Newcastle. We went at 6 pm and there were no street parking. There is a visitor parking garage but they were all marked for employees. Second, drinks were terrible. My lavender martini was good but my friends could barely finish theirs. Third, service could be a lot better. It took 20-25 minutes for the waiter to get our drinks order. It was hard to get his attention. The restaurant was only at 50% capacity at that time. Seems like he was playing bartender and taking orders-- that's probably why. But service quality did pick up as we started ordering food and he was friendly and attentive. But if the restaurant was packed, I would have expected even more delay. Thankfully, the food came quickly so no complaints. All in all, nice food so would recommend to hang out with friends. Maybe I will find better luck with parking situation next time; who knows!

We tried this Mexican spot near the apartments in Newcastle before heading into Seattle. Parking was super easy, which is always a plus. When we walked in, the host interaction was a bit odd--no greeting, just a quick "how many?" after we stood there for a few minutes. Not a great first impression, but thankfully our server made up for it by being friendly and attentive throughout the meal. They start you off with complimentary chips and salsa--pretty standard, nothing too spicy or special, but it gets the job done. I ordered the carne asada, and honestly, that was the highlight. The beef was really tender and flavorful--definitely better than expected. My husband got the birria tacos, which he said were decent, but he actually preferred my dish. One small thing that felt like a miss was the guac, sour cream, and pico came in plastic containers even though we were dining in. Not a huge deal, but it didn't quite match the slightly more upscale-casual vibe they seem to be going for compared to other nearby spots. The rice and beans were probably the weakest part of the meal--both of us found them a bit bland. Not bad, just lacking flavor. Overall, we'd come back if we're specifically craving the carne asada, but we're not sure it'll become a regular go-to just yet

I took my parents here for lunch and it was delicious! Firstly, you have 2 hours free parking right next to the restaurant so thats niice. Our server was good. It did take some time since she was the only one there. It wasn't too busy so it wasn't noisy or anything. Foodwise: I decided to get the pork belly appetizer again since it was sooo good last time, and it was still pretty good this time but the meat was not as tender and soft as before. Could possibly be a different chef Lamb dish --- omg tender, fall off the bone, flavorful. It was soooo delicious. Comes with rice beans and tortillas. Chicken taco --- big size, flavorful, and toasted marinated tortillas which definitely enhanced the dish. We also got a side of fajita veggies which was ok, a little oily for my taste but not too bad. We were really hungry sobwe just dived straight in and forgot to take pictures :). It was a lot of food and we still end up with some leftovers too. Overall, this is probably my current go to for Mexican food

We decided to try somewhere new tonight. This place has been on our radar for a while, and even though the parking can be a little annoying, we lucked out and found a spot quickly. The service was great from the moment we walked in. Pepe was attentive, kind, and made us feel right at home. They bring complimentary chips and salsa to the table. The salsa had a pretty good kick--honestly a little too spicy for our taste. The chips were homemade; a few were pulled from the fryer a bit too early, but overall they were good. My dining partner ordered the Skirt Steak Carne Asada. It was tender and flavorful, and he never orders better than me... but tonight he 1000% did. I love Birria and decided to try the Quesa-Birria. I know Birria tends to be on the greasy side, but this one felt excessive. It had no structural integrity and was a bit mushy. We'll definitely be back--I'll just be ordering something different next time.

Expectations were surpassed. Options for Mexican are thin in this part of town, pretty much Tapatio or bust until Loco-chon opened up. The interior is decorated in a Dia de los Muertos motif with bright red wallpaper and skeletons/skulls here and there. I wasn't very hungry so I went with the pork belly appetizer. The portion size was actually quite substantial, the meat was crispy but tender inside and had a sweet sauce drizzled on top, served topped with mango salsa, with rice on the side and a red sauce for dipping. My wife's veggie enchiladas were better than average. We were both more than full for just over $30, not bad at all. I'll be returning.

    Margarita price breakdown

Food and vibes were good, but be careful about drinks. While great, the pricing was very misleading-special for 5De Mayo listed all margaritas 2$ off. Once ordering spicy mezcal margarita the server did not let me know that mezcal was 2$on top of house price, the light on sweetness was considered "skinny" with an additional $4.00 price tag, and "spicy" was an additional $1.95. So, if you see a pricing on "ALL MARGARITAS", please make sure you ask a lot of questions! If you want it done your way you will pay for every little andjusent (and quite a substantial amount too) and no one will tell you upfront. Unless you want to pay almost $20

We visited the restaurant at 3 on a Saturday afternoon. Had the place to ourselves. The Cadillac margarita was boozy and delicious, just like it should be. I had the Sonora tacos that was the best of surf and turf. Both shrimp and steak prepared perfectly! The corn tortillas were dipped in sauce so very messy, however delicious. Great place to try when in or near Newport!

This is in the newcastle commons. Parking is not easy to find specially during peak hours. Had a reservation for 3 on a Tuesday evening. We were sat fairly quickly but the server took forever to come to our table to even offer water. By the time he cane we already knew what we wanted. We ordered pork belly bites for appetizers. They are on the sweeter side. But still delicious. I ordered chilaquiles. They were decent. Tortilla was crispy & not soggy which is always a plus. The red salsa lacked flavor. The mango mojito was perfect. No complaints there. I would come back to give more items on their menu a try. Service was horrible. Serve/Bartender was incredibly slow. Not sure if they are understaffed but it was ridiculous. This could be a nice chill spot to have a date night or grab some drinks with friends.

Carne Asada tacos! The skirt steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare with fantastic flavor. The only downside was that the tortilla got soggy quickly, so you need to eat it fast. If they made handmade tortillas, it would elevate the dish and give it that authentic Mexican flavors you're looking for and missing to make it special. It's a bit pricey, but the portions are generous. The service was excellent; our waiter was super nice and friendly. The restaurant has a bar vibe, making it a great place to watch a game with plenty of TVs and great decor. We will definitely give it another go!!

    House Margarita

Very good drinks! I highly recommend the Paloma. The happy hour tacos are a very good deal and super filling.

The house margarita was a tad underwhelming and did not quite hit the spot. For the main course, I decided to try their weekend special, the tequila camarones, and it did not disappoint. The fried ice cream though not exceptional, was generous in portion size. It is also worth noting that the restaurant offers a generous section of vegetarian options. We decided to share the 3 fish tacos, as it sounded really good. The tacos were quite tasty, and somewhat abundant in portion size. What really disappointed was the rice and beans. Rice was flavorless, as were the very small portions. Again, $28 for 3 fish tacos with really small portion of rice and beans. Not for me! I'll find a taco truck! The service was great--everyone we interacted with was friendly and welcoming. The menu is pretty extensive, especially when it comes to tacos, so there are plenty of options to choose from. I tried the asada, carnitas, birria, and adobada tacos. All were decent, with the birria being my favorite. The other meats weren't bad by any means, but they were a bit on the drier side compared to some other taco spots I've been to. The rice and beans were pretty standard--exactly what you'd expect, nothing particularly standout. One thing I really liked, though, was the self-serve salsa bar. It's always a plus being able to customize your flavors. One thing to note is that you do need to bus your own table, but considering the price and portion sizes, it feels fair and worth it. Overall, a solid spot for a casual meal. I'll definitely be exploring more of this area of Renton--there seem to be a ton of authentic Mexican restaurants nearby. We went late at night, so options were a bit limited at the time, but this was a good find.
