Still a great place to dine after all these years. Free parking for 2 hours -- get the code at their front desk, don't go by the posted sign by PayByPhone as you will get charged parking by the hour. They had wide screen TVs and the world cup game was playing. Surprisingly it was slow for a Saturday night but we got there early. It started picking up by the time we left. They do take reservations and recommend so if you're a large group (10 or more) -- call or go through their website (best to call). During this visit, we had: For drinks: Bood Orange Margarita and Devil's Tequila. They were both good. The Devil's Tequila is a great summer drink. For appetizer we had the Porkbelly -- our usual appetizer order. Homemade country Pork belly tossed with sweet chili peppers and mango sauce, topped with jalapeño and cilantro, served with side of rice. Highly recommend trying this dish. Pork belly is nice and crispy. For our main: Milanesa Pollo - Mexico City classic, tender pan-fried chicken breast coated in homemade crispy breadcrumbs, served with cilantro, cotijoa cheese, lime, rice or a small salad. I chose salad and it was lettuce served on top of the dish. I asked for the dressing on the side (it was Caesar dressing...I don't think there was a choice). The chicken was cooked nicely and it was flavorful. I want to try the dish with rice next time. Mexicali Burro Asada - Grilled Wagyu Steak, monterey cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, french fries. Another favorite and usual order. Both are big portions for us, especially the Burro Asada. We both ended up boxing up half of our order. For dessert, we had Tres Leches Cake. It was house made on that day. It was different than any of the Tres Leches cake we've had elsewhere. The bottom part had a dense texture like bread pudding. It was very good! I had a great experience visiting Loco Chon for Cinco de Mayo! They had a special Al Pastor taco deal for the holiday, which came with rice and beans. My friend and I also ordered 2 rounds of margaritas, which were $2 off for Cinco de Mayo. I was a big fan of the mango habanero margarita, which was spicyyy but in a good way. Pros: Ambience is very buzzing. It's got a nice vibe. Food is great. We got the fried cauliflower for appetizer. The batter was thin like a tempura. Wasn't a big fan of the buffalo sauce though-- I would have expected like a nice salsa. For mains, we got the veggie tacos, salad, and a fried chicken with cilantro/lime rice. Great portions and banging flavors. They don't skimp on ingredients. The prices are a little higher but the quantity is enough for a really hungry adult. We had a lot of leftovers. Cons: Parking situation-- I will be honest. I won't pay for parking in an apartment complex in a city like Newcastle. We went at 6 pm and there were no street parking. There is a visitor parking garage but they were all marked for employees. Second, drinks were terrible. My lavender martini was good but my friends could barely finish theirs. Third, service could be a lot better. It took 20-25 minutes for the waiter to get our drinks order. It was hard to get his attention. The restaurant was only at 50% capacity at that time. Seems like he was playing bartender and taking orders-- that's probably why. But service quality did pick up as we started ordering food and he was friendly and attentive. I took my parents here for lunch and it was delicious! Firstly, you have 2 hours free parking right next to the restaurant so thats niice. Our server was good. It did take some time since she was the only one there. It wasn't too busy so it wasn't noisy or anything. Foodwise: I decided to get the pork belly appetizer again since it was sooo good last time, and it was still pretty good this time but the meat was not as tender and soft as before. Could possibly be a different chef Lamb dish --- omg tender, fall off the bone, flavorful. It was soooo delicious. Comes with rice beans and tortillas. Chicken taco --- big size, flavorful, and toasted marinated tortillas which definitely enhanced the dish. We decided to try somewhere new tonight. This place has been on our radar for a while, and even though the parking can be a little annoying, we lucked out and found a spot quickly. The service was great from the moment we walked in. Pepe was attentive, kind, and made us feel right at home. They bring complimentary chips and salsa to the table. The salsa had a pretty good kick--honestly a little too spicy for our taste. The chips were homemade; a few were pulled from the fryer a bit too early, but overall they were good. My dining partner ordered the Skirt Steak Carne Asada. It was tender and flavorful, and he never orders better than me... but tonight he 1000% did. I love Birria and decided to try the Quesa-Birria. I know Birria tends to be on the greasy side, but this one felt excessive. It had no structural integrity and was a bit mushy. The portion size was actually quite substantial, the meat was crispy but tender inside and had a sweet sauce drizzled on top, served topped with mango salsa, with rice on the side and a red sauce for dipping. They are on the sweeter side. But still delicious. I ordered chilaquiles. They were decent. Tortilla was crispy & not soggy which is always a plus. The red salsa lacked flavor. Carne Asada tacos! The skirt steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare with fantastic flavor. The only downside was that the tortilla got soggy quickly, so you need to eat it fast. If they made handmade tortillas, it would elevate the dish and give it that authentic Mexican flavors you're looking for and missing to make it special. It's a bit pricey, but the portions are generous. The service was excellent; our waiter was super nice and friendly. GO TO TAPATIOS IF UOU HAVE A DIETARY ISSUE!! There is a really controlling service element here which we really do not find appealing. The first time here shortly after they opened we tried it out and wanted to sit in the bar which was 60% empty. We were told we had to sit in the dark restaurant because those waiters needed tips. The food was unremarkable (compared to Tapatio's up the road) and my husband refuses to go back. I have a girlfriend who likes to meet here for drinks. I often bring my protein chips (to all Mexican restaurants) because my lovely doc insists I try to get 100 grams of protein a day which is a daily challenge. I've never had a problem bringing my prepackaged quest chips anywhere (including Tapatios, other Mexican restaurants, other bars or even Cancun restaurants, etc) including the past five times my girlfriend has selected this place for drinks. Recently we were here and a server came by to tell us we were not permitted to have a 3rd party's chips in their restaurant. I had planned on ordering the shrimp and a couple of other apps but scrapped it all. My protein chips were replacing free chips that they place on our table - why would they care? My family mentioned this restaurant to me a few weeks ago so we decided to give it a try! They were raving about the octopus tacos. A new menu item that is occupied by a mango salsa cilantro and a black bean sauce. At first bite the octopus was good however the dish was okay. However, we also ordered the enchiladas with a spicy crème sauce, carne asada, shrimp tacos and guacamole. The guacamole so delicious. Carne asada perfectly cooked small piece of meat but good. We were drinking the sauce with the enchiladas abs the shrimp tacos are amazing too. This place offers happy hour which we missed. We came from Seattle so it was a 45 min drive for us. The staff here are extremely rude. I walked in and the girl who "greeted" me said nothing other than "are you okay sitting at the high bar table". I didn't want to because those high chairs hurt my back and before I could answer I guess because I hesitated she said "I guess not okay you can pick a table" and pointed at a bunch of empty tables. The food and service were great. The atmosphere was positive. But what really stood out was the kindness I was given. The humility of the owner...he was very supportive and worked alongside his staff as an equal in maintaining a clean, highly prestigious but humble, restaurant. The owner also helped me fix my flat tire. I just happened to stumble into this place (on June 7th, 2025) on a whim while trying to get a lay of the land in order to find help for fixing my tire. This man went outside with me and pumped air into the tire. I'm going to sound lame for saying this, but it's actually my girlfriend's car and it's a Prius...which apparently don't have spare tires (2020 version). They have fix it yourself kits, which is what the owner of this establishment indeed discovered for me. I am grateful. Loco-chon is a wonderful, upscale place for Mexican faire. It is relatively new and much better than Tapatios, Las Margaritas, or even better than Agave in my opinion. My friends and I came here on a Thursday evening for dinner. Parking right outside of the restaurant is free with a code validation you can get inside of the restaurant. We were seated immediately upon arrival and given chips, salsa, and guacamole to start while we decided on our entrees. After perusing the menu, I got the Carnitas with refried beans and corn tortillas. My companions got the Carne Asada with black beans and corn tortillas and the Enchiladas with verde sauce. I also got a piña colada for $11. Service was great. Our server was very attentive and brought us warm chips when he noticed our basket was running low. He was also quick to serve; we got our food within 15 minutes of ordering and almost everything came out at once. The ENCHILADAS came in a set of three and were smothered in a tangier than usual Verde sauce. It was a little too puckery for my taste, but my boyfriend enjoyed it. The chicken was also nicely marinated. The portion of CARNITAS they give you is HUGE. I had to get a small takeout box after. While the shredded pork shoulder was moist, it honestly tasted like Kahlua pork or overly salted pork; there was no Mexican spice to it. It came with complimentary sides of guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. The pico de gallo might've been the best salsa I've ever had- nice and crunchy with just the right amount of lime and mild heat. I don't think I'd get this dish again (other dishes come with pico), but it was worth a try. I didn't get to try the Carne Asada, but my friend gobbled it up and so I take it he liked it. My PIÑA COLADA was sweet and smooth. You can taste the rum, but the rum is definitely not overpowering. It was topped with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry which my boyfriend happily ate. We were not in a hurry and only had one drink while we waited. The menu had a nice variety with a gourmet spin on standard Mexican fare. I had the street Ahi tacos ($17) - it came with 2 tacos and a side of either refried beans or black beans and rice. All the dishes were very good.
