5 stars for the food! I can't afford to come here anymore. The prices have gone up so much, naturally with everything going up around us in this town. The food is still amazing. This was my go to place for picking up starter. They don't sell it anymore which is a bummer, because they were one of the only bakeries around that did. I'd come in for the starter and also would usually buy a coffee and sandwich too. Now I don't have a reason to come here and spend my whole paycheck. Great Sunday morning "brunch" at Lodge! Parking can be a bit difficult in this areas but there is a parking lot with Tesla chargers right next to the restaurant. Even though we went at 10 am, we ended up getting a mix of breakfast and lunch items. The sourdough cinnamon roll was absolutely hugeeeee and delicious. If you like sourdough and cinnamon this is the roll for you. I also got the Italian sammie. It was the perfect mix of focaccia, meat, a bit of spice and veggie. It was also massive and still tasted great the next day for my lunch. Service was good, it was a little busy and it gets a little crowded inside because of the mix of folks waiting to place orders vs folks waiting to pick up their order. Literally the most heavenly, creamy, tasty hummus known to mankind! We used to LOVE Hasiba... and this is their hummus that Lodge sells. Wish they would offer more menu items from Hasiba in Lodge. We used to love Hasiba's Sabich (pita sandwich with roasted eggplant) so much. Lodge offers a Fat Pita Sandwich which we tried once but weren't blown away... will give it another shot. Big plus is that this pita sandwich is vegan. Not the biggest fan of the pizzas (I believe we tried the spicy eggplant) but gonna give it another try before we make up our minds. Heard that they have vegan cheese. Service is excellent and although there's no indoor seating, the outdoor seating is very good (there's plenty). Street parking is easily available as well. The place was always busy with long lines and you could see even tons of pickup orders bags stood there at the counter. Before it was served, I thought it's kinda pricey but when I saw it, the giant size made it totally worthy, especially with the super generous stuffing. The baguette itself was doubtlessly on point with perfect texture and so enjoyable. For sweet option, I tried their Ricotta and Jam toast, which was also decadent. I tried this place on a bit of a whim a week ago, and I'm still thinking about their delicious Breakfast Sammie. I had mine with sausage, but I watched with envy as my cousin ate his with both sausage and bacon. The bacon was a juicy slab and perfectly cooked. After years of patronizing Lodge Bread, Culver city, CA and purchasing only the huge chunk of Cinnamon loaf with icing, the almond croissant and the coffee cake, bread pudding we decided to order their country sourdough bread that we loved from the traditional taste of bakery sourdough which is aged dough maintained at a certain temperature year round, and must be fed daily. What they gave us was a sponge dough. Eric would not replace the bread with something we could consume. It took me a very long time to finally try this place! I usually avoid this part of LA because of the traffic--it takes something really special to get me out here. Well, now I've found that reason. I visited the morning before Thanksgiving because a friend insisted we make a sourdough turkey-shaped loaf. Scrambling to find some starter, I discovered through reviews that Lodge sells their own. The chef was incredibly helpful, guiding me through how to feed the starter and even printing out detailed instructions. The starter itself was impressively healthy--it had already started rising in the warm car on the way home! Unfortunately, due to poor time management, the dough didn't have enough time to proof properly, but we still managed to make a decent loaf thanks to the amazing quality of the starter. On my quest to find the perfect bread in West LA, I came to Lodge. A number of restaurants serve dishes/sandwiches using their bread, so I had high expectations. I grabbed a Jerusalem bagel and citrus and olive loaf and they are *chefs kiss*. I am the HUGEST sesame bagel fan and the Jersusalem bagel is essentially a huge, oblong sesame bagel--even better, it is a SOURDOUGH bagel. I could not resist tearing a piece off in the car and eating it like a feral animal. Purchasing and eating this chewy, sesame ring of magic was honestly the highlight of my week. The citrus and olive loaf is also killer. It's covered in crunchy, toasty millet and is studded with juicy, briny kalamata olives. The citrus also shines through (I'm guessing there was citrus zest or olive oil in the equation); I've never had bread quite like this one. I was tempted to have brunch there but convinced myself to save $20 bucks since I'd already done some damage at the Mar Vista farmer's market. During my visit to LA, I met up with three people for brunch at Lodge Bread. Here are four things that stood out: 1.) Everyone was able to find street parking out front or close by pretty easily. 2.) All the food was legit! We split a couple items as a group (in addition to getting our own individual meals), and one person in the group was vegan. So, I was extremely impressed that their food was good enough to satisfy everyone in our culturally and dietarily diverse group. 3.) Friendly service and great ambiance. We were able to grab a picnic table right in front of the restaurant, and it was the perfect place to while away a couple hours, on a more laidback street without the incessant buzz of city life. 4.)
