Log Barn 1912 is kind of an attraction of sorts in Armstrong BC. The main store is a log cabin, where local food and merchandise is made and sold. Beef jerky, smoked salmon, dressings, coffee and treats are among the sold foods. A whole variety of souvenirs are sold as well. Part of the Log Barn is the animal farm, which include horses, chickens and roosters, goats and alpacas. The store sells goat feed, which you can give to the goats - and alpacas!! We enjoy feeding goats, which are very sociable and funny animals. Service was very good, and the ambiance a bit unusual but very interesting. It was very amusing to visit this attraction, store and animals. Definitely a place to return when I return in the area!! read more

What a beautiful little store with all sorts of interesting gifts and unique food items, their honey mustard and ranch dip are must buys! Also the all natural wine gummies made from real wine are a true treat. A nice selection of ice cream cups and popsicles. I just wish they had a larger selection of produce and reach baked breads. But worth a trip regardless. So much to see and do, a must visit when you are in Armstrong for sure! read more

This place was fun! We stopped here while on a road trip and it was the perfect timing to get out of the car. There aren't a lot of other places to stop on the road so this was a fun way to get out, stretch our legs, and take a bathroom break. We enjoyed taking photos with all the crazy statues and garden ornaments they have from gorillas to dragons. Our favorite part was the goat walk. You drive in under a plank walk for goats. Goats walk up this skinny wooden walkway from their yard. At the top they can be fed by patrons below. We had fun paying for some feed and sending it up to the goats for a snack. I wouldn't buy food here as most of it was sitting out with flies landing on it (gross!) and the packaged stuff you can buy anywhere, but the place is fun. If you or your kids need a break from the car, the log barn is the perfect place to stop for some fun photo ops. read more

We stopped at the Log Barn with family members on our way home from a Kelowna trip. Our little nephew enjoyed the goats, horses, etc . Lots of dinosaurs and various huge statues to take funky photos and it was a nice break to stretch your legs . Our nephew loved putting corn in the pulley system to feed the goats on the ramp . There's lots of snacks to buy at the shop, little toys, treats, ice cream , lollies, souvenirs , etc I always like to stop here just for a break and kids love playing on the playground there! read more

If you go into this place knowing it is a bit of a tourist trap and there is quite a mark up on things - you'll still enjoy your visit. There are some foods that are not local, but the local honey and jam are great, and similar prices to elsewhere. The statues are great fun, and generally this place is adorable. We also enjoyed feeding the goats (25c for a portion of food for them) and going into the petting area to see them. I can't comment on the fresh food as we didn't sample this. But if you're driving by - it's worth a pit stop, but 30 minutes here was enough. read more

This place is hilarious. You start getting bombarded with advertising on hwy 97 about 100km away from this place. After driving by this place for years we decided to stop in. It's worth a visit just for the goat walk! These goats are so funny and as soon as they hear the food jingle in the can they come looking. The rest of the property has lots of fun stuff...dinosaurs, giraffe statues, petting zoo, horses etc etc. once you make your way into the actual "barn" they have lots of food. It's WAAAAAY over priced and you can get half the stuff at a grocery store for half the price. Go to this place (especially if you have kids) just once for the goats! read more

We were driving to Kelowna from Calgary and about 20 minutes before Vernon, we started seeing signs for the Log Barn, a lot of signs! The place was very well advertised. They appeared to have delicious pastries according to the billboards, so who were we to drive by? As we approached, and pulled in, our only reaction was "what is going on here?" There was indeed a log barn, but the decor was something else! There was a petting zoo, goats everywhere including on a road spanning bridge as you drove in, gardens, figures of animals, and even dinosaurs all over the place! There is a lot happening decor wise, you can't help but smile as you take it all in. Once we made out way past the bears and dinos, we got into the log barn and discovered what appeared to be everything from sausages, jerky, sweets, sauces and spices completely home made. It was evident that it was all done by a Mennonite community. The Mennonite's are new to me since coming to Alberta (and BC), but I have quickly come to trust them to make amazing food! We decided to just look at the Log Barn passing through to Kelowna, but we stopped on the way home and picked up a number of things. Prices are by no means cheap, but everything there is home made, with good ingredients, so I don't mind paying for that! I was speaking with who I believe was the owner who told me a bit about the place, and the fact that 10 Sundays through the summer, all proceed went to Ronald McDonald House charities, so that is incredibly generous and awesome. If you are travelling Highway 97 BC, stop into the Log Barn! It is worth the visit! read more

Brutal. Friendly salespeople who will upsell you into an unbeknownst $100 bill (unbeknownst as there are no price indications on ANYTHING). Most of the food is NOT local (generic, imported crap from the US), and the prices are insulting. The owners have been fined twice by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The dog's breakfast of statues and goats are fun for the kids, but head into town for some genuine, honest and LOCAL food. read more

Have you ever known a 30+ yr old woman to be super excited about feeding goats? No? Well, now you do. Their trained goats and the fantastic pulley system for feeding them on the catwalk is going to make me smile for years to come. Their pecan sweet bun is amazing (so my dad and sis said through mouthfuls of sweetness). I'm allergic so I didn't get to try it. Their sausages are amazing, but at almost $10 per sausage, I could not bring myself to buy it. I bought their pepperoni instead, the medium spicy one. It was $3.40 for a long stick and well... It was good. But it tasted like any other pepperoni. Most of their stuff is mennonite made, which I was hoping for some special, magical, homemade tasting explosions of flavor, but I guess that didn't happen. Washrooms are clean. Place is super cute. Not much to say, except that this a tourist trap rip-off. They offer lots of locally made foods - pies, sausage, sauces, etc. and offer imported cheeses and a bakery. The sausage tasted very good, but know in advance that these items are quite expensive. Even worse is the cost of the fruits/veggies - go somewhere else for these items. $11.95 for a small basket of cherries (not even a pound) or the same price for about 7 plums - quite the mark-up I tell you! (I know buying local is more expensive, but this was a bit much) Prices for a lunch aren't bad - sausages, soup, sliced pie, so if you're hungry on the road then give it a try. Also, very busy over long weekends, so keep this in mind for timing your drive back to where you were visiting from. Either way, find another fruit stand in my opinion and save a few bucks and time. read more

Worth stopping by once. Kids find the place exciting because you can feed the goats. They have food and drinks but be prepared to be overwhelmed with other consumer goods which are overpriced in comparison to the rest of the markets in the area. *** NOTE *** - I'm not reviewing the Log Barn's food offerings, but rather as a touristy sightseeing stop. (They have food - a wide variety - but we didn't partake. I didn't notice any "sit-down" type dining. And it DID seem a little pricey, as others have mentioned.) As a touristy place... The main attraction is "The World's Longest Goat Walk." So apparently there are shorter inferior goat walks in other places - who knew? Here's how it works. The goats walk up a narrow walkway from their pen to one of several walkway-connected standing platforms, maybe 25 feet in the air. Down below, visitors can buy a handful of dried corn out of a vending machine (like an old-fashioned gumball machine) and put it in a metal cup attached to a rope pulley. Up top, the goat uses a hoof, or his face, to turn the pulley and reel in the cup, and eat the corn. Primitive but entertaining. My granddaughters, ages 4 and 10, loved it! During our recent visit, a black-and-white billy goat (the "alpha goat"?) monopolized the goat walk, while his herd mates waited patiently, down below. But that's not all! There is oddball scenery galore, ranging from authentic-looking Wild West artifacts (stage coach, buggies, harnesses, the log barn itself) to life-size fiberglass dinosaurs, dragons, gorillas, bears, to petting livestock (the aforementioned goats, horses). There's a pond with slider turtles and lily pads. There are colorful flowers everywhere. There are trees with eyes. There are rusty antique cars and trucks, festooned with beautiful floral displays. You will see SOMETHING at the Log Barn, that you haven't seen any place else. AND - it's FREE! The business model is obviously to draw in customers with the eclectic tourist attractions, and profit from the sale of food and souvenirs. And corn for the goats. I'd recommend that you plan 45 minutes at least, to see the sights. read more

This place is weird. Some great features and some very hokey ones as well. There are bins full of cheap junk for sale that just doesn't make sense. The milkshakes were great but they sell these Mennonite sausages and I had one on a bun with all the fixings and the casing was very tough. Tasty but very chewy casing. And the 4 packs to take home are $29. Outrageous. We did bring home a Mennonite pie. Strawberry rhubarb. It was very good but a little too sweet for my taste. Fun place for kids with the goat walkway over the road. Loved that. read more

What a waste of time. Everything is over priced. If you want to buy okanagan fruit don't come here. Little selection and more expensive. We had the misfortune of eating here as well. Soggy perogies that would have been better from the frozen section of the grocery store. The sausage was not bad but couldn't make up for the disappointment of the perogies. My 2 stars are specific to the fruit stand. I made the mistake of not tasting the fruit until I got home to Alberta. The peaches have no flavour and they were about two dollars a peach. This place is amazing! Their Mennonite Fruit Pies are the best and Dave's Goat Walk is so much fun. The location is spectacular and there are so many beautiful photo opportunities! The employees are very helpful and do their best to satisfy the customers :) I have been through the Okanagan every year since I was young and this place is what we look forward to the most. It's hard to leave with JUST one item, but I would definitely recommend their Fruit Pies and Butter Tarts! Total tourist trap. I purchased some yummy looking pecan cinnamon buns that were very old - completely dried out. Unfortunately I didn't discover that until I got home - an hour's drive from the Log Barn. I called and left a message but my call was not returned. Yes it is a tourist trap, and expensive. BUT the place is unique. That is why we have gone back or stop in when passing by. Excellent pies, cheese and sausage and always a lot of knickknacks or gift ides. The huge amount of flowers, the vast array of statues displaying foods or mixed in with the foods is enjoyable. The whole atmosphere is there for picture taking. That's what makes this place fun, not to mention the well trained goats. If you are going to take my money, then let me at least enjoy the atmosphere and have fun doing it. read more
