This place was recommended by some friends, we decided to give it a try, but unfortunately it did not live up to the hype. Even though the service was ok, the place was very dirty, and the food was bland. Unfortunately I will not be returning anytime soon. It seemed like it would be a nice place to eat, but as I said, food average, no spice (not flavorful). And placed was really dirty. My boyfriend and I have eaten here twice, and the second was DEFINITELY our last. The first time was alright, we did the breakfast buffet on a Sunday morning. We sat at the bar because it was quite busy. The entrance to the kitchen as well as the drinks were all in front of us so we were right next to the waitresses the whole time. The waitresses all seemed stressed out and pissy. It was not a relaxing breakfast by any means, but the food was fine. The second time we went about a year later I was unenthusiastic but willing to give it another shot. We did the buffet again. The Log House has personally come the only restaurant I trust for a proper breakfast. Now don't mistake them as a one trick pony as they also serve lunch and dinner respectively which I also enjoy, but their breakfast is on another level. All of your favorites that one grows up with and also being able to customize plates and combinations. On Sunday's the special that one must dive into is the breakfast buffet line. Usually I have to catch myself or else I'd be back and forth until I became 400 pounds. The Log House is a must try if you haven't yet. read more

We were a table of six & went at an odd time after inner tubing for 4 hours. We were starving. The very kind waitress sat us in the back because one of the main dining rooms wasn't open yet. It was a bit musty in that room, but it was our only option. We loved the menu & all ordered to our hearts' delight. I couldn't decide, so I like to ask what the cook's specialty is. She loves the place & everything on the menu. She said she eats there even when she's off. I got the hot open faced turkey. Delish! All the food came quickly & hot. All the waitstaff was friendly & looked very happy. The bill for the six of us: drinks, salads, appetizers, & mostly sandwiches came to $82! Awesome! Okay, so summer I have been going up and down the coast from New Haven to Mystic looking for a decent clam dinner. Today my daughters and my fiancé wanted to go antiquing up north, no seafood today. I stumbled over the Log House and thought maybe diner food, well, the waitress suggested the clam strips ( I remember the deep fried piece of rubber from Howard Johnson's) so we tried them as an appetizer How bad could they be? I don't even particularly LIKE chocolate cream pie -- I'd much rather have apple, pumpkin... almost anything -- except for THIS masterpiece. The crust is flaky perfection, the chocolate cream is fluffy, rich, chocolaty - just the right amount of sweet and the really whipped cream topping is magical. The night I first tasted this miracle pie i ordered the carrot cake which was OK. My guy ordered the ChocCreamPie. I had a taste. He wouldn't part with much. If your at the end of Route eight this is best stop around although there isn't that much else in those neck of the woods. I have no clue how this place has good reviews. I went here a few months ago with a group of people. To start with the waitress was rude and you can tell she didn't want to be there. The food was all frozen/ can crap . There was nothing that was cooked fresh at all. Nobody at my table even tried to finish their food due to the fact it was gross. Stuck in a time warp, this pseudo rustic stop out on 44 between New Hartford and Winstead is an affordable, decent homespun place for a family meal. The menu tells the story of the couple who built this place following a decade of running a 24 hr diner on the same spot. Reeks of old post WWII America, something that is becoming ever more rare. Offerings are similar to what you'd see in a diner/family restaurant, with the usual breakfast all day as a fail safe. Great place for the price. I had a sirlion and my husband had the fried chicken. Both were very good. I had a side of green beans and there didn't really seem to be any seasoning on them but they were good. The steak was tender and the the baked potato flavorful. My husband ordered a fairly generic house salad to start which tasted fresh and good. No over abundance of anything on it like some places who give you cheese with a side of lettuce (no cheese here).
