    Greene County Housing Authority

    Greene County Housing Authority

    (1 review)

I currently live in a community run by The Greene County Housing Authority. I have been harassed…read moreby the management since I have moved in, they have done 3 inspections within less than a year's time for asinine idiotic issues. I am currently awaiting a decision from Social Security after working my entire life to support myself and my Autistic son. We have zero money and have only the kindness of my Mother to credit any help from. The Authority stole my table and air condition which cost $500 dollars from my front yard with less than 3 days notice by mail, no telephone calls or notice attached to my door whatsoever and when I called twice to ask what they did with my belongings, Tim Cumberland, the head maintenance person, refused to return my calls. I would like to know if he is running a side business selling our belongings, but how could I know, he refuses to return calls, very professional. They are now trying to conduct a "fourth" inspection upon my household for what they call a "special housekeeping" inspection because they say they observed 2 badly burned rugs on my front step. They dated the letter they sent me back 3 days and mailed it on a Friday giving me only to Monday (a day & 1/2) with no way to reply before they will be knocking on my door to enter, and to not only perform this unnecessary inspection, but to again "CHARGE" me for it as they have in the past. My carpets that were out front were "WELCOME MATS" that became loose so I sprayed a rubberized paint coat on them & turned them upside down to dry. This is what they are basing their newest intrusion on, stating they were "badly burned". Did they bother to test of smell for a burn? No. Of note also, the last time they hit me with a "Special Housekeeping" inspection, the woman shook her head back and forth stating that she can't believe she was even doing this inspection as she could see nothing wrong with my unit. She stated that "Special Housekeeping" inspections are to look for broken and damaged walls, appliances, basically to see if anything was so damaged it would create a problem turning the unit around quickly for the next rental. My God, when will it end with them. I also think it is of the utmost importance that people know that the steps are wooden, have no slip-free skids on them and I severely injured my back falling down all 13 of them and apparently, I am unable to be fixed as my doctor has been treating me for the pain only by medications and epidural steroidal injections. I can barely stand up for more than 30 seconds to do dishes now, as well as all other tasks that standing or bending over entails, which is just about everything. My neighbor's mother also fell down the stairs and they had to move her bed to the downstairs dining room because of it and she can no longer walk on her own, climb stairs at all, or get up to take a shower without several people assisting her. My son also fell down these super slippery wooden stairs, his x-rays were abnormal and he is in pain regularly due to falling down the stairs in our unit. He has to start with physical therapy next week to see if, at this least intrusive medical intervention level, will help him as he is just 20. I would not recommend to anyone that they live in any of the housing units I live at in Wayne Village. Further, I have never ever had a problem with a Landlord in the past and have had GLOWING references from ALL of my past Landlords. I have always reported problems promptly and my units were always immaculate when I left, every single one of them. I have also never had a Landlord tell me that I need to have my dishes done, dryer and put away before I leave the kitchen to go anywhere. I cannot believe that Tim Cumberland was eyeing up my dishes the last time he came in, I might add with ZERO notice, to come light my furnace and stove. I have never had a Landlord treat me like I am with The Greene County Housing Authority, constantly being intrusive and charging not only me, but the other tenants both current and past for ridiculous charges that were no more their fault then it could have been for snow to fall on the ground outside. Another issue, the Housing Authority is charging us according to how much child support the Order of Court says we are supposed to receive, of which we receive NOTHING, while another government agency who provides us with Food Stamps gives us our allotment based on what we actually RECEIVE. Two government agencies, two different sets of standards, but they both were given printouts of what we receive and The Housing Authority chooses to take what isn't there and my Mother has to pay for it as we have absolutely nothing. If I had to recommend a place to live for homeless people or someone in need of low-cost housing, I would recommend buying a camper and attaching it to their car before I would ever think they should move into this horribly intrusive and "Hitler-like" way to keep ourselves from the elements.
