We've always ordered from here and have enjoyed the food in the past, but this time was very disappointing. I placed a large order for our staff, and unfortunately, the quality just wasn't there. The food looked good, but the taste didn't match. The tostones were dry and hard, like they had been microwaved, and the pollo horneado had no flavor. Both the white rice and the moro de guandules were bland, and the chicken was dry. The sweet plantains were the only item that was somewhat okay. Everything was just too dry overall. This didn't taste like the Dominican food we know and love. The one bright spot was the ordering process, the young lady I spoke with was incredibly pleasant and professional. We ordered the chicharrón de pollo tonight and unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. The chicken was severely overcooked--dry, tough, and completely flavorless, almost like biting into a hockey puck. I heard the restaurant is under new management, and while I wasn't a fan of the previous manager (the woman with the short hair who wasn't exactly friendly), the food back then was much better. We used to appreciate that they used clean ingredients--like turmeric for natural coloring--but it seems that's no longer the case. The tostones were also overcooked and tasted like they'd been sitting around all day. Overall, the quality of the food just wasn't there tonight. We spent around $100 and sadly didn't enjoy any part of the meal. We're not the type to call and complain or try to get something for free--we genuinely want to support small businesses--but this experience needs to be acknowledged. Something in the kitchen clearly has changed, and not for the better. Last year, Lola's was right up there with Caridad as having the best Dominican food in Yonkers--some would even say their chicharrón was better. But now, I've got to give that title back to Caridad. I never really put up reviews but I feel like I just had to do it. We ordered delivery which took over an 11/2 to get to us. And we are 4 blocks away. The steak sandwich barely had a steak in it. My husband had to put the other half of the steak into one piece of bread. And it was flavorless. I ordered pork chop with rice and beans and pork chicharron. The pork chop were so overcooked that I couldn't even cut into it. And it didn't even taste good. The chicharron was completely dry as well. The beef empanadas were barely fried and no flavor. I asked for a smoothie, (which by the way the server had started making a smoothie for an over the phone order) She asked for my order , I requested a smoothie and she said " No. I am too busy with over 500 orders and we are not making smoothies at this time, I looked over and she realized there was a smoothie in the making in the blender . The mofongo needed salt and garlic and the shrimp looked like frozen pre cooked shrimp. The sauce they added was pretty but had no taste. If i can give a negative 10 stars I WOULD! The food is not that great,, and the owner (CACO COLORAO) is beyond nasty and disgusted. That when I called her to complain that the sweet plantains was not the sweet plantains but instead was green plantains with sugar. When i call to complain she (CACO COLORAO) told me that with the 5 dollars that I paid she can wipe her ass with it! I have never in my experience seen an owner behave in that matter. Mind you I was not rude but obviously upset to pay for something that was not what I ordered. This woman does not fit well within our community. I say, I had patronized this establishment often when initially open in the early 2000s and quite enjoyed their rice and beans so I took it upon myself to try them again recently. I arrived later in the evening and ordered a plate of this delicious sautéed chicken and rice and a mango smoothie. While the wait time for a take-away establishment was more than ideal, the mango smoothie prepared for me was the best I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Lola's was real close to my hotel where I was staying at when I spent this past weekend in NYC. It was Dominican too, which I haven't had Dominican food in awhile. When I got to Lola's it felt like I was home in the Dominican Republic with the Dembow and Trapbow music going on in the background. They had plenty of ready made food selections which made things easier. Chose the stewed pork meat with rice and beans. All the food was awesome and satisfied my hunger very much.
