Hair and pubes on the floor... filthy floor
Wompwomp W.

Well this is the only motel available in the middle of the night. Pubes all over the floor, toothpaste spit in the sink, and poop explosion stains in the toilet. Dirty washcloth on the floor. The bed sheets look and smell clean, so at least those are washed. The bed is hard! Hoping to sleep at least a bit. Can't wait until morning. Hoping for no bed bugs bites.

Pink shower

Dirty and VERY old school. It is a cute town to sleep over night in a cheap hotel. Spend a little more and stay at a better place. I did love the pink shower very retro

First Room. June 2017.

It was a Saturday night and we were desperately looking for a hotel room on our way down south from Eureka. It was getting late we had stopped and called other hotels in the area and they were all fully booked. We didn't want to drive another hour to Fort Bragg or the next major city. So this hotel became our only option. We stopped by as we were driving down the major street. There were people smoking marijuana outside their rooms and I had read the terrible reviews so I was concerned, but we couldn't be picky since we had no other options. The gentleman at the front desk was nice and we got a good deal on the room when other places over an hour away were charging 200+. Our room came out to $112 for 3 people. They charge extra after 2 people. Our room was right next to the check in desk. It was very basic and not as bad as I thought. The only problem with this hotel is that they haven't updated or redone their rooms in what seems like over 10-15 years. I didn't take my shoes off in the room and I slept on top of the cover. I felt dirty in there, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Like I've said it's not too bad if it's the only option you have left.

Broken and filthy

WORST HOTEL IN THE ENTIRE WORLD! THEY TREAT THEIR GUEST LIKE WE ARE SCUM OF THE EARTH AND THE HAVE THE AUDACITY TO CHARGE OVER 77 dollars for a double bed and for the most disgusting, filthy, horrible, room. The doors don't even close all the way, the bathroom has been tagged there are stains all over the beds everything is broken the fridge and micro are broken the bathroom is sick! The room was supposed to be nonsmoking and it reeks of cigarettes, it is NOT up to code on ANYTHING, no fire alarm or detector, dusty, no locks that work and just the worst customer service on the entire planet. The man was yelling at us for not wanting to pay with my card because we tried to pay with cash, he CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD WHEN I SPECIFICALLY TOLD HIM NOT TO! this is absurd, never come here it is a living nightmare!

Bathroom door jamb

Got into the room and it wreaks of weed! $89 per night for a filthy dump but it's the cheapest in town. With it being the cheapest they have some shady/loud people that live here. The owner is mega nice and they do have a very minimal continental breakfast. This area is usually noisy and has many homeless people. I'm not taking this into my rating just a fair warning to travellers. As far as the odor - I may have added to it a bit.

It's ok. Dirty room and somewhat run down. Ok for just a night.....look elsewhere for longer. Management is nice though which is a plus.

Best Western Plus Humboldt House Inn - Weekend Wine and Cheese evening reception

Best Western Plus Humboldt House Inn

Disappointing for a Best Western Plus…read more For our trip to show our friends visiting from South Africa the beautiful California redwoods last month, we found the Best Western Plus Humboldt House Inn. The web page https://www.humboldthouseinn.com/ showed a lovely hotel with a pool and spa. We checked Earth Google, found the hotel, and the sign outside also said there was a spa there, as it did when we drove in. So we made reservations and all brought our bathing suits. What the web page, sign, and reservations page did not mention was that the spa had not been open for the past 5 years. See the attached picture, taken from the balcony of our room. (The reservation page has since been modified to say "Our pool & hot tub are closed. We are currently doing renovations to some rooms.") It also did not mention that the ice machine for the hotel was not working, and did not work at all. We had to buy ice each night from grocery stores in town. Nor did it mention that guests had to ask to have their room serviced -- towels changed, bed made, and the usual housekeeping work one expects from a Best Western Plus. The on-site staff were helpful and excellent. For example, when we asked our room be serviced, the housekeeper did so quickly and efficiently. But the inn was far below the standards we expect of a Best Western Plus. We spoke with various people, and they said the hotel had not been upgraded for years. It desperately needs an overhaul.

Had to knock off a star because our room was so cold the first night: 64 degrees. Another couple complained about the low temp while we were at the front desk. The second night we were plenty warm enough, and they did give us another blanket on request. We did not try the restaurant, but definitely will on our next trip. I was in the bar briefly (we didn't have a corkscrew) and the staff ladies there were most accommodating. The hotel is 100 years old this year, and running some promotions to celebrate. Complimentary sherry in the room lasted both nights. Room deco was very nice. This hotel has personality, in the rooms, the hallways, and all areas inside and out. Fascinating antiques throughout. Would make a lovely place for a wedding and reception!!

The room has no convenient elements, like glasses for wine or a table to sit and have a coffee, but it has a lot of fluff, which just collects dust. The AC is tremendously old; it wasn't be able to actually cool down the room, but at the same time it was VERY noisy. We got a room with a river view - it is not worth it. Yes, you can see the forest somewhere there. The restaurant in the hotel is very bad - it is very pricy, but the service is bad, and the food wasn't good. We waited a long time to be seated, even though they had tables. We waited a lot for our menu, because they don't have enough copies. They were cooking our food for a whole hour and served food with a huge delay between dishes. The steak we ordered as medium was overcooked on the sides and too raw in the middle.

HAUNTED! DO NOT SAY HERE. I would give this place 0 if I could…read more This place is incredibly sketchy and haunted. My grandfather and I booked a room here with double beds for a single night on a road trip up the coast a few days ago. I woke up at 3am to the feeling of someone watching me. I turned my phone light on and looked around and no one was there. As I laid back down I felt the space beside my bed depress like someone was getting onto the bed. Then, it was like someone wrapped their arms around my body. I felt like I couldn't breath or move. When I finally mustered enough oxygen in my lungs, I leaped out of the bed with all I had in me and turned on the light. Again, nothing was there. Room #23. My grandfather and I drove the whole length of the Avenue of the Giants looking for a decent spot to say for the night - with the idea of exploring the Redwoods the next day. We decided the Humbolt was our best option after seeing that many of the residents of the town were living in the hotel rooms of the other motels in the area. There seems to be a large homeless population here. Also many forestry service trucks were parked in the lot, which seemed to indicate something positive if they were staying there. However we were so wrong about that. The other issues with the room were that it REEKED of cigarette smoke. We've been back on the road for 3 days and our clothes still have a twinge of that smell - even the clean items in our suit cases. The shower had no official nozzle, it's like one you'd see at Venice Beach and there was either cigarette ash or mold on the shower curtain. My grandfather also found pubic hair in the tub matt. The overall cleanliness of this place was insanely gross. The other patrons of the hotel were also loud, kept their hotel doors open and were pretty intimidating.

I've stayed here 3 times now over the past few years and every time I find myself not wanting to leave at the end of my stay. everything in this resort and the surrounding small town is so relaxed and a nice break from city life. the staff are courteous, the grounds are well kept, and there are so many hikes and out outdoorsy things to keep you occupied. they have a pool and a fire pit and even some resident kitties that will show up from time to time. the best time to go is honestly at the very end of summer since it's cooling down and the weather is still clear enough for sightseeing. if you're into star gazing also, this town quiets down enough at night and doesn't give off nearly enough light to block your view. the Astro photography here is awe inspiring if you manage to snap a pic or two. you can even use a normal cell phone to get the photo you want! i hope you enjoy your stay as much as i do~

The unit itself is pretty bare bones. Cheap but comfortable furniture. Kitchen has pretty much everything you'd need to cook. Bed is okay, maybe a little hard. Really hot showers, which was nice. Managers are super nice and 100% responsive to any needs. We got one night free bc of their spring special, which bumped it up a star for us. Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I HEARTILY recommend it?
