Nice Texas American decor. No need to book unless if is the weekend. The food is generous, especially the 1kg pork ribs. Quite a few people get this and when I did I was stuck eating it the whole night. Not really a dish for one, must share it with a few people. We came here because we had an Entertainment Book voucher. I'm not going to lie, I love a good Lone Star feed. Give me their delicious ribs dripping with sauce and a beer any day. Each Lone Star is similar but a little different. I really love that they've made a big deal out of the front of the restaurant with their huge sign, you can't miss it. They have also got a great layout indoors where the bar is really separate to the dining area. It means all the Westie hooligans or sports fanatics cheering won't disturb your meal. Perfect. We did have a bit of a wait when we went here so if you're in a hurry I'd recommend you book ahead. Otherwise just chill out, relax and soak in the atmosphere. One of the decent restaurants in West Auckland, Lone Star is home to the ridiculously sized meals and is heaven for rib lovers. The size of the meals is unbelievable and bloody good for the price you pay for them. As a rib lover I look forward to going to Lone Star to enjoy a rack of succulent ribs marinated in a secret sauce that just ooze flavor! I love the salad that comes with the redneck ribs, it actually has dressing on it and consists of more than just lettuce and cabbage. The cocktails and dessert are delicious! Good old Lonestar. The one place you know you are going to be met with young girls in tight clothes offering you beer. It sounds a little hickery but it is not. It is a pretty well established spot that just knows their crowd well. I went there a while ago with a friend and got some drinks and prawns to munch on. The prawns were amazing. Like in that garlicky, buttery sauce that makes you want to lick your fingers even though you know you shouldn't. It was so good. There was actually quite a selection to choose from on the menu but I'm glad we had chosen the prawns. A great menu with plenty for vegetarians too. And they have a decent drinks menu as well. The decor is pretty rustic but modern looking, it's nice. And you can sit outside too, which is awesome. It's a popular spot, and you can see why when you get there. It has a real relaxed vibe about it. read more

We've not been to the Lone Star for quite a few years. We used the entertainment book voucher 25% off. Not a bad hook. When we arrived we were welcomed warmly. The host - the owner, was cheerful and welcoming. A nice change these days. The menu was pretty much unchanged since i visited many years ago. It was a little disappointing but not a deal breaker. I can't go past a good steak and my meal was the best of the bunch, perfectly cooked with great accompaniments - potato bake, spinach and a great sauce but the most expensive dish at around $38 from memor The other meals were pretty average. Johnny Cash chicken and a quesadilla were plentiful but lacked somehow. Neither friend finished their meal nor raved about it, but then again they didn't say it was bad. A smaller fella we had with us had fish and chips but it was pretty average, lacked freshness although he really loved the little flag that came with it. :) I know this is a tex kind of place but an addition of a pasta dish or two would help when you bring along teenagers to dine. As we dined the restaurant filled and kids started running about, crying and tearing the place up..standing on the fire pit and touching the chimney. OK the fire wasn't on but it was a distraction to enjoying the meal. It think the restaurant can be a great family restaurant by all means but requires some discipline so it feels like we are in a family restaurant but not a toddler park. Perhaps a small mention on the menu or the the kiddie art handouts to re-iterate dining etiquette and standards of behaviour. But hey, that's not all the restaurant's fault. Parents need to do their part too. The service was a little frantic when busy and we had to ask many times for the same thing - like water. The price was OK. I'd like to mention the host though - I think it was Brendon? What a nice fellow. He was the best of the bunch. The franchise could do with a small upgrade to the menu perhaps and some training with the younger waitstaff. Overall the night was average. read more

If you're wanting a really good meal worth every penny. I suggest you look anywhere but Lonestar new Lynn. Food is dry, chewy and reheated like it's dog scraps, I wouldn't be surprised if it's left overs from the day or night before. Staff are rude. At least their salad was up to standard read more

There are some who are of the opinion that West Auckland is a bit 'redneck' and you might be forgiven for thinking this if you darken the door of Lone Star in New Lynn. Styled on restaurants in the Deep South but with a distinctly Kiwi flavour, Lone Star has an ambience all of its own. While some eateries in New Zealand border on being a bit bland, Lone Star comes out swinging with its characteristic decor. The food is pretty darn good too and with main courses like 'Lassoo of Hog' and 'Redneck Ribs' you know you're going to get a hearty feed. I felt a little timid with some of the redneck titles so I decided to play it safe and have the 'Rockin' Ribeye'. It didn't let me down. My wife was a little disappointed there was no vegetarian option and had to make do with the fish fillets. She's not a fan of fish and only eats it as a last resort. Again, like the nearby 'Black Salt', I think having a veggie option (such as a pasta) would make a lot of sense. read more

The service was awesome, great mocktails (being pregnant) & with huge food portions! Favourite was the hot bread with garlic butter & entree pork ribs - very tasty! They have great deals when dining with kids, they get a free drink & dessert. We couldn't finish our mains after our entree & we were able to take them away. Reheating then the next day (shanks & lamb) were just as tasteful. Will definitely go back again & try the other dishes. read more

Very good food but disorganized when busy. We were there on a busy Saturday night. My fiancée is from Texas and the first thing she'll tell you is that the parking lot is not very Texan. It should be spralling but instead it's cramped. It took us 10 minutes to park; it was a major cluster *#$@. When we got in the door, the entry way was super crowded with people trying to pay and get on the list in the same place. We got on the list and were told 15-20 minute wait. After about 20 minutes, we asked where we were on the list and they seemed to have no idea. They ran around looking for open tables and said it'd probably be 30 minutes. Then they finally understood that we were already on the list and instead of looking at where we were in the order, they just randomly said it'd be just a few minutes. That ended up being true. We sat down about 35 minutes after arriving. It took another 10 minutes for server to arrive. We placed our food orders and about half an hour later had our food. The food was super tasty so we decided to get dessert too, which was also delicious. To check out, you just get up and go to the check in location. The guy surprisingly remembered exactly what table he had seated us an hour earlier and brought up our receipt. I would definitely go back there, but at a less busy time. read more
