We sent the plates back 3/4 full, (we ate the beans, they were very good) and told the server that we thought the brisket was super fatty. She shrugged and took our plates. I ate here about 3 years ago and the bbq was fantastic, so I finally made it back. This time I don't think the cook knew what brisket was. it was very tough and dry with gristle. i couldn't even eat part of it, i had to spit in napkin.I honestly think it was some other cut of meat. it was cut with the grain. Full disclosure- our bar for BBQ is HIGH. We tour BBQ joints like others tour wineries or brew pubs. I'm not sure if it was just an off day after reading the other reviews or we are BBQ snob. We ordered the ribs and Pork sandwich. The sandwich was decent. Like we ordered and paid for it so we will go ahead and eat it. The ribs though... we couldn't even eat them. First any BBQ joint that smokes their ribs without removing the membrane is just wrong... Non membrane ribs are the way to go. The membrane is tough and kinda gross. Second- They have a pretty good smoke flavor, but they were super tough. When you think ribs, you want them to almost fall off the bone... you need low and slow... my guess is they are going too high and fast for true tender delicious ribs. Slaw was very basic (blan). French fries were the PRIZED part of the meal. Delicious! Truly good BBQ is hard to find, and this place just didn't make the cut for us. read more

Saw this on Yelp and decided to stop for lunch. We had the pulled pork nachos, which were HUGE and delicious, and the brisket sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich. What they have perfected is how to keep the meat very moist and tender, which is paramount. Everything was great, including their bbq sauces. Norma was also super nice and took great care of us. The Lonestar Diner in Dayton, Oregon is shockingly good! I never would have expected to find such carefully prepared food, that blew me away, in such a tiny town. The Lonestar's Texas Burger was complete perfection: a third of a pound, high quality burger, done medium rare, per my request, with a generous helping of pulled pork, and a slice of wonderful bacon on top, with just the right amount of BBQ sauce, and hand cut fries on the side. Even their iced tea tasted freshly made. I can't wait for the Lonestar to start serving breakfast again!!! read more

Was looking for some catering help in Oregon Wine Country when I found Lonestar BBQ and Brian & Norma. Two of the nicest people you will ever meet and the food, service and ambiance are all perfect. I had a combination plate and every bit was awesome. I picked up lunch for 25 four days later and it was perfect and plenty of food. Can you say leftovers? I am very picky about BBQ. Either the portions are small and the food is good, or the portions are huge and the food is just so-so. Lone Star manages to strike a good balance between the two. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially as the are has been someone "gentrified" by the wine crowd. I had a half-rack of ribs ($14.95), with mac-n-cheese and slaw as my sides. (It turned out that the mac-n-cheese cost extra). The half-rack was huge. Last BBQ joint I went to in Portland charged $20+ for a half-rack platter and had less ribs somehow. The food was truly "rib-sticking" fantastic, the portions were unreal and the hospitality was fantastic! Norma and Brian (owners) were truly friendly, outgoing, fun to talk to, and were more than accommodating. The word "accommodating" probably doesn't accurately describe them as they made it feel as if we were in their dining room hanging out with old friends. All of the dishes we ordered were served hot and were big enough to make you unbutton your pants after eating! - Brisket, pulled pork plate, Brody Bowl, Texas Sundae, carrot cake, cheeseburger...I don't think we could have gone wrong with picking anything off their menu as it was all lip-smacking delicious! Came here with my wife and 5 year old while we were staying at the vintage trailers nearby. Had an amazing dinner. Atmosphere was great and the owners were extremely hospitable. My wife and I both got the pulled pork plate and it was delightful. The tillamook mac & cheese was also delicious. On a recommendation I tried the Shiner Holiday Cheer beer and was not disappointed. This place serves Texas bbq. This place met my expectations. The beef brisket melted in my mouth. The pulled pork was alright. The house sauce was good, but I didn't care for the flavor of the spicy sauce. The cornbread was good. I was indifferent on the coleslaw and potato salad, but nothing strange about them. The menu is larger than expected. I saw a man receive the wet burrito and it was the size of a small dog. Yowza. I would say this place is on par with Ribslayer to-go in Mac from what I ate.
