We went to Longhouse a couple of weeks ago and the food was very good and the service was great. Then last night we went there with family, including 2 children. They were slammed by a party of 30. Our waitress was overwhelmed, as was the kitchen. tI was 1 1/2 hours before we saw our meal, and then it really wasn't good. The owner told my wife that sometimes things happen and you have to wait. After an hour we were done waiting. They comped 1/2 our meal and our drinks, but it was one of the worse experiences I have ever had in a restaurant. If we hadn't had a decent experience the first time we went there, I would have given it a 1. It'll be a long time, if ever, before we give it another try. read more

The service here was outstanding. We had both dinner and breakfast and both our waiters were incredibly friendly and attentive. As for dinner, the selection for vegetarians was disappointing. For breakfast the selection was much better, there were more healthy choices available as well. The food we got was tasty and we didn't have to wait long for it to be served. Would have given this place 5 stars if there was a better selection for vegetarians for dinner. read more

Finally tried this place after 40 years or so. They could have remodeled the dining area when they did the repairs following the fire damage. It always feels like a freezer in here so bring your sweater. The food is delicious and the portions are plentiful for an excellent price, you'll have leftovers for lunch the next day. My husband and I have patronized The Longhouse for the past 20 years. We moved to Gilroy in 2006 and became "regulars," eating there once a week or so. Most of the staff knows us either by name or by sight, including the owner. Tonight, 11/15/10, we walked in, sat down, ordered drinks and then waited to order for the next 1/2 hour. During that time we watched quietly as our waitress, "Angela" took orders and brought salads to the table behind us, bussed a table in the back, and disappeared out of sight at least twice. She assured us 3 times in passing that she'd be "right back" to take our orders. Finally, we just got up and left. My husband encouraged me to call and talk to the owner. At least let him know about our experience. I got right through to "Pete" (who stated he was the owner) and started to tell him we'd walked out and why. He immediately interrupted me and started yelling that we'd left without paying, that we cost him money, and we knew it was "busy." Then he hung up on me. We turned around and went back to pay our bill which consisted of 1 glass of ice water, 1 hot tea, and half a loaf of bread. We approached the cash register and Pete recognized us immediately. When I said I wanted to pay for my water, tea and bread and placed my ATM card on the counter, he shoved it back at me, said "I don't want your money," turned his back and walked away. We have eaten at The Longhouse at least 100 times. There have been times when the service was poor (alhough tonight was the worst), our orders were not correct, or the food wasn't up to par. But we kept going back because the service staff was generally and genuinely nice and we could get a decent meal at a very reasonable price. We've brought family and friends many, many times. I have no idea why we were treated the way we were tonight. Poor service happens, even at the best of restaurants. But, the owner's behavior was rude, mean-spirited and just plain bizarre. Called in for early dinner with my wife this weekend. When the server finally came to our table we asked for the drinks menu - the server stated the restaurant did not have one. After the server left with our drinks order a family on the table opposite informed us that there was a drinks menu and handed us their copy. Onto the dinner order .. my wife and I ordered a salad appetizer and prime rib entree with baked potato. Our salads arrived at our table at the same time as our entrees arrived. We immediately sent our entrees back to be "kept warm" while we ate our salads. Upon finishing our salads our plates were not cleared away and our entrees re-arrived ... minus baked potatoes and with one prime rib cold and the other prime rib with a piece cut out of the middle and a new piece inserted in its place (quite bizarre!) We sent the entrees back to the kitchen to be exchanged for fresh entrees with arrived back with the previously mysteriously missing baked potatoes. As we ate a succession of our side orders of vegetables came and went. cold, hard or overcooked. The service and meal was an ABSOLUTE DISASTER. The sever offered us a discount from the cost our dinner to make amends.for the farce we experienced. When the bill arrived for the dinner with no promised discount I walked over to speak to the owner. The elderly owner informed me that I should accept the fact that mistakes happen and that he really did not care for my opinion. He asked me to pay up and leave without offering an apology. On leaving I spoke to the head server who informed that the owner is elderly, tired and grouchy and that I was wasting my time in providing feedback. Have NEVER been treated so POORLY in a restaurant EVER. Will not set foot in the place again !!!! If you like visiting a restaurant to throw your money away this is the place for you !!!! read more

I have always ate at the Longhouse restaurant and recently ate there yesterday 12/20/2018. Today, as I was eating left overs, not only was I seeing hairs in my food, I seen a large knot of hair mixed in with the sauce that was on a steak. This obviously was not by mistake. I wouldn't choose to go here. Diner coffee which is to be expected. The breakfast is pretty good. But now I eat gluten free so I can't have their waffles anymore. This place represents all that is wrong in the restaurant industry. Filthy, super out-dated, musty- and that's just the interior. The service was deplorable and the food equally so, which comes straight out of a box and microwaved to order. Please do yourself a HUGE favor and avoid this miserable place at all costs. My Dad (who can afford to eat anywhere) swears by this restaurant. He absolutely loves it. I drove by a few times and thought "my Dad it nuts" and "this place is a dive". Well curiosity finally got the best of me and I decided to eat there. I have to admit, the place could use some updated furniture. Lots of rips and stuff in the upholstery. Yesterday I took my granddaughter here to have lunch. I did appreciate the outside covered patio area, it was nice and relaxing. This is my second time going here in 2 weeks and I noticed AGAIN the menus were filthy! Either wipe them off after every use or provide the customers with paper menus. This is definitely a germ magnet and not following the Covid19 protocols to keep us protected. The amount of time we waited to receive our food was great however, my Patty melt was dripping in oil/butter and I had to use a paper napkin to hold it to absorb some of the grease because it was really saturated and it made my bread very soggy. My granddaughters chicken Caesar salad had just too much white bitter lettuce and barely any green lettuce like a Ceadar salad should. It was a little disappointing for the $12.99 price that I paid for it. I also asked about a senior citizen discount and was told no there is no discount on my meal. What is up with that? I guess only certain menu items get a discount :/ Needless to say, I'm going to give this place a break because they are not paying attention to minor details and I'm NOT going to pay good money for mediocre food. read more

I have grown up in Gilroy my whole life and my family and I used to come to the Longhouse at least once a month when I was younger. I came back for the first time in a few years for breakfast and the restaurant was exactly how I remembered. Even though they are constantly busy, the staff does a great job seating you as quickly as they can while being polite and professional. Today, I ordered the California Benedict with hash browns and it was delicious. You get a lot of food for a good price, I would highly recommend stopping by whenever you find yourself in Gilroy. read more

Not good at all! I normally get the roast beef over bread with mashed potatoes and gravy, but yuck! The meat tasted funny, the gravy had no flavor, the potatoes came from a box, and the bread was so stale it was hard to cut. Not to mention the wait staff needs some class and some lessons in waitressing! The whole place looks dirty, broken cabinets, heating trays falling from the wall, it was just gross. The Longhouse is a great place if your looking for that hometown cooking. I've been there for breakfast,lunch, and dinner. The food is good and def filling some plates with a little southern cooking style greasy so if your not into those foods stay away. The staff is always nice and friendly when I go there for lunch sometimes I let the ladies know how much time I have weather it be 45 minutes or and hour and they tend to me quickly. If you plan to go for breakfast anytime on the weekend your def gonna have to wait anywhere from 10-15 minutes for seating and about 20 minutes for food it's a popular weekend breakfast stop. All in all it a good place who want to rush anyways at breakfast??? read more

I ordered ribeye steak sandwich for lunch and it was very good. The service is excellent here. I especially love their breakfast omelet selections. The pancakes are super fluffy and their hash browns are cooked to crispiness perfection. Don't order the pasta because it won't come out Al Dente. read more

This normally is one of my faves to eat at, I was recently there this past Sunday for breakfast with friends and family after church. We got our food fast and it was great we decided to have mimosas, we had one glass then decided to have another when the server came back I said "oh how nice new glasses" once we grabbed them I noticed my friends glass had lipstick stains all over it, non of us were wearing lipstick, very upsetting not sure if I will come back if I do it won't be for a while very upsetting. read more

Good home style cooking for the price but the food is never prepared the same way if you come back and expect it to taste like what you had ordered prior, not a chance. I was hungry and I decided to eat at the Longhouse. I sat at the counter and was greeted. A waitress asked me what I wanted to drink and I told her coffee. Then that was that as far as service goes. I sat for fifteen minutes and no one took my order. It was busy and their toaster keep going out. The waitresses were stressed I understand their situation, but you figure at some point they would take my order. Yet they didn't even when it died down. I decided I would go someplace where they wanted my money. I paid for my coffee and left. My tip to them is to may sure they take care of all their customers. Being from Gilroy--now Milpitas--occasionally the wife and I have eaten at the Longhouse when in Gilroy. Most of the time it's been okay, not great, but better than Black Bear has treated us. However, yesterday for breakfast we both ordered the skillet breakfast. It was undoubtedly the worst skillet breakfast you can imagine. It was some country potatoes with a couple eggs atop, hardly worth the $7.99. And the waitress couldn't even add the bill correctly so overcharged us. I would usually leave a $3.00 tip for any bill over $20 (2 skillets, 2 coffees) but after seeing the bill I didn't say anything. I just picked up the tip, paid the bill and left the waitress wondering why. Oh yes, the cook got the order screwed up which had to be fixed. read more

I never had a bad steak there, this is why I keep coming back. Today I had a steak Valentino with artichocke hearts perfectly prepared medium rare, tender and melting in my mouth. My Texican husband is extremely picky about steaks but even he loves how they listen to you how you want your steak, he prefers rare and gets it just like he orders it. I love the fact that you get a phantastic three course steak dinner there for under 18 Dollars. It is not a super cool designed restaurant, more an old timey joint. After my last review, we have been here several times for breakfast. Coffee has gotten a little weaker in taste or watered down. The breakfast has always been consistent so I can't complain too much. What I would like to add is on the staff. As we walk in, the non Hispanic waitress' and owner have a lazy or casual way of handling their customers. They act as if they could really care less if you are eating there or not. Perhaps, they are tired from the early breakfast rush. But, I must give a huge praise to Tony, the waiter. He is so efficient and kind. Always has a smile on his face as he greets and never forgets you are actually still there. He comes by from time to time and asks how things are and refills your coffee. If every restaurant has a Tony, they would all be glad and proud to have this employee. So Tony, if you are reading is: kudos to you for being such a gracious server. read more

I've had the long house a few times and really liked it, but today I ordered some to-go breakfast and had multiple large pieces of eggshells in my omelette. Disappointing and killed my appetite a little bit. Next time I will make sure to tell them make sure there's no egg shells please, even though I shouldn't have to. read more

Food is fabulous and consistent. Portions are huge, burgers are juicy, I've never had anything that wasn't great. The staff is always friendly. If they don't know you by name they recognize your face. It's always busy but there never seems to be a wait. The food comes quickly and its steaming when its set in front of you.
