The personnel seems very friendly for what I have seen so far.They make newcomers feel very welcome and explain the rules as soon as you are ready to make your first step towards a successful golfing relationship. There are a few Golf Pros available to get lessons from. You are able to go for % discounts when going for a Limited Golf ball "Membership" card: Pay £15 for a pre-loaded card and get 10% off the individual prices for the amount of golf balls you choose from. I think I pay around £3.20 for about 50 balls. You can choose from 20/50/70 balls. The socializing facilities like their coffee shop and sitting area are very standard. I guess it is mostly used for wives waiting for their husbands to be finished with their "free time" :-) I also saw the younger generation getting their training to become a Tiger Woods one day! The bays are pretty standard. You still need to put the balls on the tee yourself. I know this sounds lame, but having been used to a mechanical operating system where the balls just appear.....then, yes, you can get spoilt. However, on a positive note, the bays are large and give you enough space to maneuver around. There is a hook for your jackets etc. Sadly you are not allowed to take your golf bag onto the Range - ONLY your clubs! All types of golf shoes are allowed. The balls are dispensed from a very modern machine that is explained to you when you get your introduction. There is also a "pay as you go" golf course and a putting green and you can turn up and play without making an appointment. Just arrive and see if you can get a slot for the tee-off! Enjoy!

According to one reliable source that makes it the thirteenth oldest golf club in the world. It is a very beautiful place -- great seaside course that is very picturesque and a great test of golf as well. The course does have a few quirks, but actually make it all the more interesting. One of the most memorable starters of all our trips as well...I really would love to opportunity to play here again some day...

The interesting terrain was shaped not by the capricious whims of man, with computer aided design software and earth-moving equipment, but by nature herself. The course heads west (back towards Edinburgh) on the outward nine and turns east to town on the back nine forming a kind of figure eight. The 18th hole is a short par four, and could be an easy birdie hole, but like St Andrews, a road runs down the right side and an offline shot could easily go thru a car window or worse, as there are houses on the other side of the road.... Short drive from Edinburgh so if you are in the neighborhood there is no excuse to miss this piece of living history....

For children round prices are 4.50 for a weekday and 6.50 for a weekend.

Carrick Knowe golf course is a municipal course located to the west of Edinburgh near the Zoo. The…read morecourse is pretty well maintained although the greens can be quite poor on some occasions. It is also pretty flat and not overly challenging. I've never been here while it's been overly busy so that makes for a more peaceful round. I've also never been in the club house, but it doesn't look the nicest or most sophisticated. Prices are the same here as any other Edinburgh Council Municipal Courses but I think you can find better deals on normal courses through things like Spree.
