Friendly little Peruvian restaurant in the heart of Cologne. Okay maybe it seems odd to go to a…read morePeruvian restaurant but I had just got into town after a very long two days of travel. And honestly I wonders in because it was close to my hotel. I was glad I did because I found some really friendly owners (two sisters) who have been in Germany for 26 years. One of the owners felt talkative and we practiced our communications skills in my terrible Spanish and her English to the amusement of us both. I learned all about the challenges the family faced in moving to Germany and learning to modify recipes so Germans would eat it. So the food, once they learned I knew what Latin food was supposed to taste like and more importantly that I actually liked real Latin foods they decided to give me something off the menu. She said I won't like what they have on the menu because it was all designed for German tastes apparently Germans don't like things very spicy and they don't the flavors that their traditional Latin foods have or at least they don't purchase them. so the meal they made me was something she would normally make for her family. It was a kind of marinated steak and Yucca plants and other vegetables. Then she brought out what she called a chili sauce that was very hot but also very flavorful, she said Germans would never eat it and she was surprised when she saw that I liked it. The owner said most customers don't like chilis or peppers here. we enjoyed the rest of the evening I ended up staying probably two hours. Everything that they brought out was very good. I got introduced to other members of the family, I got to go back to the kitchen and made friends with everybody there. I was invited to come back and made me swear that I would return before I leave to tell them goodbye. It was really good experience and fun to be close to the people who are serving you. Normally I would not like so much interaction but being alone it was perfect. If you go in ask to order off the menu if your adventitious.

Arroz y Mariscos - so flavorful, so fresh, and such an amazing depth of flavor and seasoning. The crispy Peruvian bread was fantastic. Ask for the HOT chili paste, mix it with the tasty sauce they bring out with the bread for a creamy and hot spread. Staff was charming. They were working on a mural of South America on the walls. Service is in Spanish or broken English/German. Point and smile - you'll be fine!! Enjoy!

Well, where do I start? I had my husband bring three associates here for dinner yesterday we had…read morecome here in 2019 and I had remembered how delicious it was. The things on the menu are not the same thing as they used to be so that was disappointing when I ordered some thing assuming it was the same preparation as before, and it was basically a egg quiche with chunks of potatoes in it it wasn't good it was fairly flavorless We also tried the skewers and they were so tough. We didn't even chew them. The calamari was the worst the group had ever had when we ordered a few other things, but none met our expectation let alone being good. It took a while for the server to notice us and we should've been alarmed when there was no one else seated in the restaurant at 6:30 or seven at night most places here are booming. There was one couple sitting outside on the sidewalk. I can only imagine it was their first time the waiter would come and bring things well then trying to remove something off the table to replace it with the thing in his hand, instead of clearing some empty things off the table 1st. The potato Espinola still has the same name, but as I said is made completely different than it was before . There is no real description in the menu so I had no reason to think it was an egg quiche since it says potato pancake, they don't have spring rolls anymore and they don't have the bread platter anymore of all the things that we did try and the group I was with her very open-minded. Nothing was worth heating . I hope they read this and try harder just a real disappointment.

There is an open and energetic kitchen, high-top tables, long community tables/bars, and more intimate tables in the back. The food is small plates though they offer s few larger plates too. It's a perfect spot to sit and catch up with friends while sharing Italian dishes. It seemed like 2 plates per person worked well. The friend calamari was lightly battered and the squid was cut thick so you could really taste it. The vegetables from the oven are s good mix of roasted veggies in olive oil- I loved the onions and fennel. The lamb kebabs were cooked well by a little heavily herbed for me (I think sage?). Tried the chicken with vegetable- the chicken (both dark and white meat) was grilled crisp and served with small, diced veggies. For dessert we shared the lemon and meringue pot- a tart and tangy lemon curd (a little grainy) topped with brûlée meringue. The dessert was a little too sweet for me. The espresso is very good quality. Many options for all eaters- veggies, meat, and gluten-free. A great place to come with a group of for a romantic dinner.
