This was such a fun hike in a late afternoon. We stopped here to check out the suspension bridges. The trail starts off pretty easy with it running along the water. The stream is quiet and the trail is well maintained. Once you cross the first suspension bridge, it sort of opens up and starts inclining higher about 5 or 6 suspension Bridges, and the longest one being more than a 100 feet. You reach a Paloma section, which runs along the canal/stream again and you have to bend and use your entire body, sometimes, on hooks nailed into the wall to dangle across. it was really fun for us. At the end, you reach a valley, about 2 miles in wjth a view for picnic.. And that's the general spot we chose to turn around. We went counterclockwise to get back to where our cars were parked in the general parking area for the town Monachil read more

Hiking Los Cahorros trail in Monachil, close to Granada (Sierra Nevada mountains ) was our highlight as far as Granada area trips. The route starts at the village of Monachil where if you pay attention to the signs and follow them they will lead you to the large parking lot. From there keep the river on your left as you walk up the road towards the trailhead. Around 100 meters up the road, there's a sign to the trail, leading up along the river. Since we hiked the route in the summer (June 2021), we decided not to do the whole circle, but instead we hiked till we had decent shade (1.5h up) and than took the same route back. It was a very hot day, and we were very jealous to see people swimming along the route in swimming holes under us. Definitely bring some water, if you're hiking in the summer, bring a lot, all depends where you're coming from. We live in Florida where there is lot of humidity so it was really easy for us, even ran the trail at some points. Some parts can get little muddy and slippery so make sure you wear appropriate footwear (saw people in flip-flops holding everybody down since they were afraid of slipping and falling), so be considerate of other people's tempo. Definitely a must!! Would love to come back in spring or early summer and walk the whole trail. read more
