    It's noon!

This strip mall in the CP could turn out to be a foodie gold mine. There is Sushi Moto at one corner and Ecuadorian Chocolate at the other end and almost next door sits Los Reyes. With the abundance of Mexican restaurants in the area, Los Reyes can easily be overlooked but not anymore for us. We stopped by for breakfast and it's an easy 4 plus star review. Plus one ordered her favorite carne guisada with brown gravy. Do not try and serve her red gravy! Her review "this tastes just like my moms". And yes, her mom was a great cook. My huevos rancheros was one of the best this side of the Rio Grande. My eggs were perfect over easy but the star was the potatoes. Cooked perfectly with just the right amount of spice. Speaking of spice the salsa is legit thick and with a bit of a kick. I left full and was good to go until dinner time. Service was wonderful, period. We are looking forward to returning for dinner and Marghies!

Grabbed carry out from Los Reyes over the weekend, very happy with it! Simple order... caldo de pollo and el mexican plate with fajita chicken and barbacoa. When picking up, I needed one more hand, so one of the waiters followed me out to my car with the rest of the order! That was nice... the restaurant itself is larger than you'd like from the outside. It's in the corner of a strip mall, and opens up in a wedge shape when you walk in. The caldo de pollo was probably one of the best we've had in ATX! Delicious! The single order of the soup came with three whole chicken thighs, skin on... a good clue as to why the soup is so good! Whole bone-in chicken thighs, with skin, a great base for the soup. The meats in the plate were good. The barbacoa was a bit on the salty side, likely from cooking down a bit on the stove, still tasty though. The beans and rice were good too! A complimentary bag of chips with salsa was not requested but was included in the order. Another nice touch! We'll try Los Reyes again soon. Recommend you do too...!

Worlds Best Chipotle Chicken Tortilla Soup

Roads are clear but the weather is still cold. Immediately I think of Los Reyes and Mike's special Chipotle Chicken Soup. It's kind of like tortilla soup but 10 times better. I've been eating at Los Reyes since Mike and his family opened it 20 plus years ago. The menu selection and quality of food has consistently gotten better. Los Reyes remains on 'My Keepers List'.

I've actually been here a few times and always get lost in the food and company that I forget to take pictures and write reviews. Well not this time. However , it was a small order but the food was perfect. I don't push how amazing the meal is here ,but the service is always fantastic. Typically high school or early college kids as well. So, it's fun and fast. The food is vast. So much. So good. This time I ordered the papsitos nachos with chicken and since it was cinco de Mayo - a mango margarita. When I do decide to eat Mexican away from my home this is my go to spot every time.

Ordered Chicken Monterrey Black beans were really good Chicken looks like crap, seems like it was boiled and not sautéed. Onions and greens peppers the same. It's supposed to be grilled.

The waiter was very nice so this review is not a reflection of him but the food was really not good at all. The chicken enchiladas I order were simply the worst I've had and the rice was so bland. I tried just picking at the chicken in the enchiladas so I could avoid the soup of cheese but the chicken was too bland. Unfortunately I cannot recommend the food here and will not be returning.

I had the most amazing server last night. I didn't get his name, but mentioned to him how amazing his service was. He got my family of six seated fairly quickly he checked on us frequently he was just so amazing all around. The food was amazing. My kids usually never finish all their food but they did.. Definitely will be back. (found out his name was Quan)

I did ask to try aleida's sauce, which many people liked on yelp, but we liked their green sauce the most! Overall, very cute and colorful restaurant; loved all the decor. The outdoor patio, where we sat, was covered and nice, until it started pouring hard outside. Not a super authentic latin restaurant. No complimentary chips and salsa. My taco wasn't worth more than $5, tbh, and we paid close to $9..given it was shrimp, but we've had much better shrimp tacos elsewhere for less. You can see exactly how unbelievably oily it was in image.png. - Combo Fajitas: We went with the chicken and beef fajitas, and the beef was a genuinely terrible cut. - Guacamole: This was the biggest heartbreak. We are huge fans of fresh guac, but what we got was borderline spoiled and not fresh at all. You can take a look at image_2.png to see the sad state of it. Serving old guacamole at a Mexican restaurant is just bad vibes. - The Service: Our waiter completely ghosted us. He visited our table exactly twice: once to take the order and once to drop the plates. We sat there waiting to give some constructive feedback on the tragic guacamole, but he never returned. We received zero water refills and no extra chips. Meanwhile, the table right next to us won the server lottery. Their younger waiter was incredibly attentive, bringing them unprompted soda refills twice and keeping their chips fully stocked. We literally had to flag down their awesome waiter just to ask for our check so we could finally leave. - The Verdict: This was our first time here and it will absolutely be our last. The food missed the mark entirely, and the service was just awful. Save your money and go somewhere that actually respects the guac.

First, the menu needs a rewrite for content and clarity. For example, buying fajitas doesn't list guacamole and based on size, single, for two and family you get more sides of rice or beans. There's no definition of how much actual meat you get and our server couldn't provide that information beyond a rough estimate. Second, the fajitas we got of family size and for two portions for 7 were not consistently cooked. We asked for medium rare and got about 25% at that with the ones in the center at a more well done. Again, the multiple tiny sides were more obnoxious than anything as it's legit beans and rice unless you want to upcharge. The cilantro lime rice tastes like nothing so skip that and go for abuelita rice which has a hint of flavor. Overall, the butter/gravy that go on the fajitas is the real winner but again a menu where you overbuy and misunderstand (that doesn't even list extras like guacamole or a simple small queso) was beyond frustrating. I would stick to them for one to possibly get a better cook.
