My dad, my boyfriend, and I went to dinner at Los Sombreros tonight and it was fantastic. Our server said they were the only one working tonight and that they'd take care of us, and they sure did. The parking lot outside was parking so we thought we may have to wait, but inside was not busy yet and we were seated immediately. I ordered the smoked chicken enchilada as I saw it was a Yelp favorite and it was delicious. I ended up taking half of it home since we all filled up on chips and salsa before our meal. This restaurant is decorated so cutely. I love how there is a Baja influence with all the surf boards but also southwest appeal. There is plenty of seating and tables for big groups. Even with other people yapping around us, the noise level was perfect to enjoy company. 10/10 would recommend. read more

We were seated immediately upon arriving in their super cute space; there was both indoor and outdoor options on a Sunday evening! There were heaters available if we needed them, as we sat outside. Our amazing and friendly server offered to turn the heaters on for us, but we didn't need them. I enjoyed a Oaxacan Old Fashioned (on the sweeter side, but that's what I like), we had the Elote (BEST I'VE EVER HAD), and I also had the Carne A La Tampiquena. We came here with another couple since there are gluten free options for her. We went for brunch and the menu options all looked good, it was hard to choose. We were excited to have our meals and for our double date. The restaurant didn't look busy but maybe they were understaffed since our food took a while. The food was wonderful. I ended up getting a pork dish (I can't remember the name) that had apples, jalapeño, potatoes, and other yummy ingredients. It came with rice and refried beans too (which was a nice bonus). My boyfriend had a fried burrito type dish and he said it was tasty. He ended up finishing it (which also says how great it was). The only real issue we had was the table was wobbly and the server only said "yeah they're all like that". Instead of trying to wedge something under it so no one accidentally caused a drink or food to spill on themselves with how wobbly it was. I would have hoped for a better response or resolution especially with how off kilter it was. My boyfriend ended up wedging something under the table to make it balanced. read more

We had reservations for 6:15 and arrived right on time. We noticed they were understaffed so it took a little bit to get us seated. Once seated our waiter brought us warm tortilla chips and salsa. He took our drink orders and was very nice. We also ordered the Guacamole which was very good! Maybe a tad too many onions, but it was still good I was looking forward to a sangria, however they were out. That was disappointing, but I ordered a coconut drink instead. It was very good. They let me sob out the tequila for rum. It took a long time to get our food. We had a few refills on our chips but it really just made us too full for our dinner I ordered the chicken enchiladas. They came out on the colder side, and the flavor was lacking. My husband had the crane asada and that was exceptional. Over all I would like to give this place 3.5 stars. Brought my best friend and roommate here the night before Mother's Day. There was a party upstairs and it was very loud but they gladly moved us to a quieter location. The service was absolutely wonderful and the margaritas and food were fantastic! Flavorful and delicious dishes. I had the chicken stuffed with goat cheese and huitlacoche, a savory and mushroomy 'corn' . It was absolutely fabulous! After dinner they allowed us to finish our drinks on the beautifully furnished patio. I've been here multiple times before and it never disappoints. Came with one side, chose refried beans and those were so good. Grilled ribeye tacos: the tacos were OK - steak was a bit dry but probs bc of take out. Chose veggies for this side. Fantastic Mexican place - shocked we have never been when we live so close by! We were greeted right away for late lunch by our server who had a delightful bright personality. She gave us several seating area choices, and we opted to sit on the shaded part of their patio area. Chips were thin and tasty, salsa was fresh and mild, and we asked for extra hot salsa to add and mixing them together was amazing. My guy is vegan so he was elated to find vegan enchiladas on the menu, and also got a couple of their potato tacos. I opted for the Carnitas platter which was super flavorful and not fatty or full of oil, and also a single Al Pastor taco just to give it a try. Everything we had was superb. Definitely notable to mention their food is presented in a really beautiful way on lovely dishes. It all feels very gourmet, artfully plated, and not like your standard Mexican restaurant. In short, there are better options. The restaurant was very warm despite being empty on a Tuesday night (except for the work event being hosted upstairs). The ambiance is cute but the chairs didn't feel sturdy/weren't even. The complimentary chips and salsa were nice. We started with the homemade guacamole, regular size ($8). Although it looked like a generous portion, the guac was sitting atop a sizable amount of cabbage. It also lacked salt and there wasn't any on the table. The Pepino Spice was good ($14) and probably the "spiciest" thing we had all night. It was more aesthetic than my friend's drink, the Pineapple Cherry Spritz ($13). Came here with a few friends last night and we had an OK experience. In short, service could have been better but food was good. It was quite busy when we got there (we had a reservation through yelp), but got seated right away. The server took our orders for drinks and was able to get me a red sangria (even though it was not on the menu), which was super nice and I appreciated. However, the sangria tasted like bourbon and fruit juice, straight up sugar and alcohol and overly sweet. I would not recommend getting that. My friend ordered the Paloma and said it didn't taste like one and lacked citrus. So not recommended as well. When it comes to the food, my husband and other friend LOVED their lamb shank and steak! They definitely recommend it and wanna come back for it :) My friend and I both got enchiladas (I got the chicken enmoladas and my friend got the brisket enchiladas). Both of our dishes were just OK. I've had much better chicken enmoladas and also, they didn't give enough of the sauce so I had to ask for extra on the side. Neither one of us finished the meal, and wouldn't come back for them. Lastly, when we had all finished eating, it took the server at least 20 minutes to come by our table - in fact, my husband had to flag her down to get the check. I wish I could give this restaurant another star! Just blown away by the creative and wonderful menu selections! Far from your standard dishes, it made our choices fun and interesting. Reminded me of a nice restaurant you would find in Mexico City. The restaurant offers free parking and both indoor and outdoor seating. We enjoyed outdoor seating and wonderful service. Complementary chips and salsa are a standard. Full bar and a house lager made in conjunction with a nearby brewer was super refreshing along with margaritas made with fresh squeezed lime. Unable to decide, we had the opportunity to try two of their appetizers, which were both phenomenal! The roasted corn elite dish was by far the best that we've ever had and the shrimp ceviche was super fresh. There was a selection on the menu for enchiladas where a portion of proceeds are contributed to Alice Cooper's Rock Solid foundation to help local teens. We tried several dishes which allowed for us to taste some of the best and moist carnitas I think that I've ever had. The smoked chicken was very subtle, but added a depth of flavor that was fantastic. The desserts were all very rich and delicious, portions certainly sized to be shared! Pro-tip: It's a little hidden, but there's a lot of parking if needed. Highlights: The smoked chicken enchiladas were SO good and cheesy! I'm also not usually a huge fan of carnitas, but their puerco en chipotle was very tasty. I think the guac definitely deserves a shout-out too for how creamy and flavorful it was. Not only is the food great, but the environment is super fun especially the upstairs lounge and the owners were all so nice and attentive. We came here after another south western type Mexican place had a two hour wait. We were super glad it worked out this way because the food was amazing. The atmosphere is great, they have a nice open seating area with two floors inside and outdoor seating. We sat by the window. Our waitress was not only super nice but was also knowledgable and extremely helpful with the menu!! To start, my grandpa and I had margaritas. He had the regular on the rocks and I had a blended mango margarita. They were strong! We also started with the queso fundido, which if you come here is a MUST. It was the absolute more amazing queso I've ever eaten. It had the typical normal dipping queso under a bed of mozzarella type cheese that was kind of crusted over the top. It had a slight spice but not overly spicy and the flavor was phenomenal. The chips and salsa were also amazing. The salsa was chunky but also had some watery texture but it was also slightly spicy. However, the spicy was perfect and so so good. For dinner, 3 people got tacos, 2 shrimp and one steak. The tacos were definitely the go to entree and in my opinion were the best ordered choices. My friend had the pork carnitas and said they were the best she ever had. She raved and said it's her AZ go to. The homemade tortillas were also delicious. Lastly, I had the lamb. Unfortunately it wasn't the best. The meat was amazing and fall off the bone but the sauce it was not great. It was super spicy, which I enjoyed but it was also a little too sweet. The sweet seemed more teriyaki Asian flavor, and it wasn't the best. We also didn't really enjoy the rice. The rice was super bland. The beans were okay. First time at their Mesa location. their food and drinks. This location has an upstairs bar with TVs, great for catching a football or basketball game; while dining. Unfortunately, they had a private function booked, so I couldn't really check out the second floor. They also have a covered patio with TVs so I sat out there. Really nice patio with murals. The way the patio is designed, you don't have the sun beating down on you and you can enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Their Alambré Ribeye Tacos with poblano chiles and bacon are to die for. This is probably my favorite Mexican restaurant in AZ. The shrimp dishes are amazing so much so that even when I think I'll branch out and try something different I never can because it is just that good. Drinks are great as well and service is always top notch! I've been to 2 of the locations and enjoyed both but they could not be more different. I believe one may be the original and has more of the vibe of eating at a cozy little restaurant or friends house and the other is more of a venue and where you could host a party and often times they have had live music. Their menu is a little different and they don't have your typical items like most Mexican restaurants have. They have more Oaxaca style plates. They have their own oven to smoke the meat and man does that make a difference. For starters we had the elote. That was also different and had a lot of lime flavor. Next time, we said we'd get the guacamole because holy guacamole did it look good and it looks like they give you a lot. For the main course, I had the carnitas enchiladas. The portion was extremely large, but it's so good you'll eat it all. The definitely don't skimp on the meat making it a good value for the price. We just had a wonderful lunch here. This was our first time eating here and it was a very nice experience. We started with the guacamole which was so fresh and delicious, really top notch. My wife had the ENCHILADAS del MAR and I had the PUERCO EN CHIPOLTE. Both meals were absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and presented. Their food is not your typical Tex/Mex food at all!
