So many modern record stores way overprice, but Lost Padre was realistic. They even had a listen station to try out records! You never see that. Lost Padre Records is easy to miss when you walk through the streets surrounding the plaza. It doesn't have a large sign and it doesn't stand out, but the records and community inside is special. I'm from Austin; my family regularly visits Santa Fe for the beautiful landscape and delicious food. We have EXCELLENT record shops here, and I can confidently say that Lost Padre could easily fit in with the rest of the classic Austin record shops. Lost Padre had reasonable prices on their CDs and Vinyl; I purchased two records and a CD for less than 30 dollars. The man behind the register (which I assume owns the place) was polite and willing to share his knowledge, which is not a constant at just any record shop for some reason. Santa Fe doesn't deserve a record store this good. It's small, but packed with great stock, well organized, well curated and overall very reasonably priced. Service is amazing, with an old-school attitude about helping people find the music they want. The owner knows his stuff really well, but he's very approachable. Ask them about upcoming shows in the area! Prices are simply unbeatable. They are always priced way below discogs. And I love that they often put inexpensive records on the wall next to the pricier ones. I'm so grateful we have this resource. If you love records, you have an obligation to go in there and buy something once in a while, so that we can keep Lost Padre alive forever. read more

If you love digging and you're in Santa Fe, you have to go to Lost Padre Records. The prices are good, the albums are in great shape, and they have a really good selection. Not to mention the staff is extremely friendly. Hopefully when you go they still have the Meow Wolf interactive art pieces that are built into old hifi equipment. That's worth a trip in itself. I'm honestly not sure why this place gets as much hype as it does. I was in Santa Fe for a weekend trip and wanted to find a good record store. I looked at their website and I thought that at least what they had online would give me a good idea of what to expect in the store. I was completely mistaken, and their selection was really poor. No r&b of any kind to be found, or any music from the 90s really. They had a decent selection of jazz but nothing else that I wanted to spend my money on. I was highly disappointed. Santa Fe is lucky to have three extremely high-vibing vinyl emporiums near the center of town, and the most recent arrival, Lost Padre, is definitely one of them. I grew to love this place at their previous location on Catron Street, with their excellent Record Store Day offerings and, on one memorable Saturday, a one-dollar-LP blowout sale offering a stash of several thousand albums plus used stereo gear that attracted a wonderful all-ages multicultural mob of New Mexico vinyl fanatics. I now love the new location a few doors up from the Montanita Co-op Market on West Alameda because that's my neighborhood. The compact but well-curated and frequently refreshed stock, including a good selection of brand-new sealed albums, means I rarely browse here without buying something cool. And right now (late March 2020) the store is doing and saying all the right things to operate responsibly and safely during this coronavirus emergency. I read an article stating this was the best record store in New Mexico. I hopped in my car to see for myself. I enjoyed a most excellent experience! There are some very unique and hard to find albums that I had never seen elsewhere. Moreover, I actually took some vinyl with me to see if they'd be interested in it as inventory for the store and they took quite a bit of it and their pricing was excellent, both as buyers and sellers.
