While I knew of Idaho National Laboratory, I was not familiar with this awesome free museum or our nations first nuclear reactor and the small town down the road that was the first to have all electricity supplied from a nuclear power plant! They have done an amazing job maintaining the reactor as a museum and have both a guided or self guided tour to enjoy learning a bit more about EBR-1. This is off the beaten path and I stumbled on it while I was going to see Craters of the Moon National Park. It was just a short way off the highway and couldn't pass up the opportunity to check it out, what's a little time when already well off the beaten path in this part of Idaho?! Small parking lot out front, bathrooms on second floor. There are a number of stairs to get to the top of the reactor and then down into the basement to check out the bottom to consider if traveling with limited mobility guests. If you are in the area, definitely worth checking out this bit of history!

The staff there was very laid back and kind when we arrived and the history of the site is explained in a pretty engaging way. You can download your own walking tour if you want to listen to the audio, which we did and found it very helpful. I would liken it to alcatraz's self -guided tour. I really appreciate it when they use storytelling to kind of bring locations to life. It's amazing how groundbreaking this place was in the development of a nuclear power and the exhibits are all really well put together in educational without being too scientific or overwhelming. It was really neat and informative and it is definitely worth a stop if you're passing through.

I'm glad I picked Middle Fork Rapid Transit and The Middle Fork river. Great food and great guides. One of the owners (Grant) came along for the first two days of the trip before flying out. Grant often answered the phone and answered all my questions. This is the only river they do and being family owned, is what helped sell me on rafting with them. They even accomdated my camper that I needed to plug in for the week I was gone so the batteries would stay charged. They also offer a discount on return customers. One old timer on our trip came back just about every year. .

The crew was so friendly, knowledgeable, skilled, and went out of their way to make us comfortable and happy. We had beautiful trombone music in the evening and again in the morning, signaling breakfast. The food? Well, suffice it to say, I actually gained 2 lbs! Gourmet food...delicious! Everything was so well organized and easy. The people we traveled with have become lifelong friends now. The Middle Fork? Gorgeous, breathtaking...and the guides knew stories and geological information that was really interesting and educational as well. Tim & I highly recommend this trip. You'll love it!!!

Staff were very conscientious about safety. The lunch was more adventurous than I was expecting--grilled chicken, tzatziki, couscous, and a vegetable salad, with PBJ sandwiches as an option, and ridiculously good, freshly baked chocolate chip or blueberry & lemon cookies. Our guide Joey was knowledgeable and entertaining. During the day we saw lots of wildlife: tons of trout jumping at caddis flies, a mink, deer, merganser ducks, and multiple bald eagles, golden eagles, and ospreys. The river itself is beautiful. A few tips: You can bring additional food or beverages and leave them on the bus, which meets the party at the lunch spot. Several groups rafting with us brought small coolers with their own drinks and snacks. Probably a great idea if you have any food restrictions. It's recommended that you leave any valuables or electronics (or other water-sensitive items) in your car or in a lockbox with the staff. The guides have some limited room in a dry bag for phones or cameras, but it's not the most convenient to be taking a phone out of the drybag and putting it back in. You will not have cell service most of the day anyway, which was actually rather relaxing. Even the town of Stanley doesn't have great cell service in areas, so you may want to set up an "away" or "do not disturb" notice for the day. Sunblock and a hat are helpful; you'll be in the open sun on the water for most of the day. Highly recommend this company for rafting in Stanley.

The food was good in the restaurant too and the shakes-- WOW! The customer service was good too. The only draw back were the concrete blocks they have to protect their water spouts, this added a little bit of difficulty backing in. The spaces were large and very level, the water pressure was good too. We will stay here again and would highly recommend it !!!

Riding: Ross the owner was helpful describing trails to take our kids. His directions + the Avenza app had us adventuring on trails for hours both days with dirtbikes and our sxs. Our kids made some core memories adventuring here for sure. The scenery was gorgeous and so fun to explore. Food: As enticed as I was by the other diners delicious looking food I kept seeing throughout our stay, at this point in our trip we really needed to cook the food we had in our trailer. So we didn't utilize the restaurant, except I did get an order of the wings for us to all try. They were delicious, perfectly crisp! We also got our kids vanilla milkshakes after a ride, and those were SUCH a tasty treat. They sell farm fresh eggs in the store and those were great too for our breakfasts, I wish I got another carton before we left. Facilities: The women's restroom was nice and clean, and so was their laundry room. If we're able to do another big road trip with the kids like this, The Sawmill Station is a place we definitely hope to visit again.

There was a sign saying to call if they weren't there. So we tried calling on three of our cell phones. No one answered. We waited for 15 minutes and finally decided to just find an empty spot and come back to the office in a bit (hoping someone would show up). Well as soon as we start to park, someone comes up on a golf cart and starts yelling at us. I don't mean politely asking us what we're doing, full on yelling. We explain that no one was at the office and the owner rudely says that there's a sign telling you to call. We explain that we did call several times and no one answered. She then checks her phone and gets kind of embarrassed, realizing she ignored our calls. She got nicer at this point and told us what spot we were in, but it was too late for me. Even if you didn't know what someone is doing, you could be polite about it. The RV park itself is fine but nothing special. The WiFi is awful, so don't expect to really be able to do anything on it. I would never recommend staying here because of the terrible management/customer service and bad check in process.

The owner, Maryann, is so accommodating and gracious. She escorted me to my site, made sure the hook ups were working and that I was lined up properly for my slide. I'll definitely be staying here again. Had excellent cell signals with both Verizon and AT&T. The park does offer complimentary Wifi that is good for checking email and Internet browsing, but as I enjoy streaming movies and music I used my own hot spot connections. Again, this is a great spot to stay a night or longer for an extended stay!
