What an improvement from the gross old KFC that was here. Somehow they managed to work with a fast food building to turn it into a proper restaurant. The food here is "clean," not mystery meat you get at a lot of Asian restaurants. The teriyaki chicken is consistently good - very tender meat, perfect portions. I just came back from this restaurant and felt compelled to write it an awesome review! It was my first time there, and we ordered the Hot and Sour Soup, 2 spicy Szechuan dishes, and a Rainbow roll. I have to say, everything came out one after the other - hot, fresh, and spicy! it was FAST! The fish and rice in the sushi roll was fresh too. Had the basil chicken last night and the General Gao's Chicken this afternoon. Both were wonderful and without a problem were cooked with just a little less spice, to my limited American taste. The reception, though, was tremendous. Rarely do I feel so welcome. Alan's attention is keen when it comes to customer service and the details of design and cleanliness that makes a good restaurant and place you not only want to go back to but also to recommend to friends. Maybe they do better with the meat items, but the general tso tofu and veggie fried rice were hands down the worst I've ever tried to eat. The tofu was burnt as was the rice. I order delivery from them on the regular, it's always on time or before they're never late and the delivery guy is nice and very punctual. I am NOT one of those yelpers that seems to get a sadistic pleasure out of giving negative reviews. If you dont believe me please feel free to read my other reviews, I love finding new gems and shouting out praises especially for small "mom & pop" shops. I was having a quiet night in with a great movie in the que and a craving for good Chinese food. I took to my trusted yelp to see what was trending when I happened upon this place. The reviews were strong and I heartfully wanted the food and experience to be everything and more than what I had read. Sadly it wasnt. The vegetable fried rice was dry and overly greasy as well as lacked seasoning, spring rolls were very much the same as the fried rice the only discernable flavor was cooking oil. The crab rangoon was the highlight of the meal but that light was dim, the filling was good but lacking and overpowered with the tast of fried wonton. The General Gau's chicken was heavily leaning more toward sweet than spicy wand the sauce was very thin. Its possible it was just sn off night for them so I'm sure I will give them another chance based on the number positive yelp reviews AND if my opinion changes I will gladly re-rate and review them. read more

I'm not typically a fan of places that claim to do multiple Asian style cuisines because they tend to not be good at any specific style of cooking. However, this is not the case with Lotus Xpress. Whether it's California rolls or Kung Pao chicken, everything taste authentic and delicious. They use the highest quality ingredients (no strange cuts of meat that leave you wondering if the sauce is trying to cover something up) A great gem of a place with super nice staff, beautiful/clean modern decor, and a comforting atmosphere. My son and I probably eat there at least once every 2 weeks and he loves the food and the place. read more

Neither spectacularly good or bad. Only been there once, so far. Took a minute or so to be acknowledged while standing at the counter, with employees seeing me across the counter -- just give me a nod or a smile -- it ain't rocket science. Two things about the food, once it was eaten (Szechaun spicy beef w/vegetables, with fried rice), there was about a 1/2 teaspoon of oil left in the bottom of the container. I'm not expecting perfectly healthy food, but I got the feeling that a deep fried stick of butter would have been less greasy. The second thing is the "flank steak". Look, I know that they have costs to keep down and one way to do that is to use cheaper, lower quality meat, and then trying to disguise it by using a "tenderizing" tool/machine to macerate it to make it "more tender"... but when you start with such cheap meat that the end result of "tenderizing" is unrecognizable pieces of meat that seem if they've already been pre-chewed by somebody else, who then spit them back out, slathered oily sauce on them, and then served them to me... perhaps consider just starting with higher quality meat? Now, I appreciate the effort, but if you're going to charge me for it, when you spit the meat back out of your mouth, could you also spit back out some of the flavor? read more

Spotless space. Food as a bit greasy but good flavor in most of the dishes. The crispy Pad Thai had a flavorful sauce but not quite crispy noodles, Mala chicken was excellent and the pineapple shrimp bland. Great value for money and excellent service. Even though it was order at the counter someone came to my table since I had 2 young kids with me. So 3* for the food but the 4th for the service. read more

This is my favorite place to order delivery from! Their prices are great and food is fab. I always get the general gao's chicken, vegetable fried rice, and crab rangoons. This place is awesome! The food is really great great, but its the people that make it. Three of us went in 15 minutes before closing (probably the worst time ever) They were happy to see us, talked to us while our food (Sesame orange chicken) was cooking and even gave us free spicy tuna rolls to take home and try. Absolutely tasteless food. I got the wonton soup, steamed dumplings and the vegetables in brown sauce. The only thing that was slightly good was the dumplings. Absolutely no seasoning on anything. Wonton soup tasted like hot water with a couple burned scallions floating in it. The vegetable dishes sauce tasted like lukewarm water with a burned grease taste. Totally not worth the money there are plenty of other good spots to order from. read more

I got the spider maki and crazy maki and I would not recommend to anyone. First when the guy delivered the food he asked the receptionist to sign for my credit card receipt. When I got to the front (30 seconds later) he had an attitude. After eating the food I would give this place 0 stars if I could. So disgusting. I picked up one piece of my sushi and it tasted awful like it wasn't properly cleaned, so I pick up another one and it tasted the same, that's when I decided to throw it away. I'm not a sushi expert but I've had it enough to know that it's not suppose to taste like it just came crawling out of the ocean and landed on my takeout plate. This place consistently gets it right. They sushi is much better than a lot of the other places around here. I always order the miso soup, Crazy maki roll, crab rangoons and pork fried rice to be delivered and they never disappoint. We just discovered this place, which is unfortunate because we've been looking for good Chinese takeout for over a year and are moving in a few weeks. They deliver, and their food is great. It's less greasy than other places we've tried and they have a good menu...lots of variation for someone like me who prefers tofu and vegetarian options. Their crab rangoons are awesome (heavy on the cream cheese though) and I love their drunken noodles. They take a while to deliver (45 minutes....we only live 5 min away) but both times we've ordered the food arrived hot. Would def recommended trying them. read more

Positive and courteous, the experienced staff is prompt and cordial. The food is of high quality taste and at a great value in price. The place is very clean, with convenient parking. The spicy Szechuan dishes (shrimp or chicken ) and black pepper beef dishes are highly recommended. Been having delivery from Lotus Express since it opened, unfortunately quality and service has decreased. Order the appetizer plate with the boneless spareribs. In the past the spare ribs would be overflowing the "side" portion of the take out container. Tonight there were about 5 shards of ribs included (and 2 of them inedible). This amount barely would cover the side portion of the container. When i called back to complain the response was our costs have gone up, so that is what it is. read more

Ever since KFC closed, I haven't walked to that part of the neighborhood even though I live 2 minutes away. Was strolling around for food this week with the fam when I came upon Lotus Xpress. We dropped by to pick up a menu to go but decided to dine in instead. They offered a fusion mix of dishes on the menu - sushi, chinese, thai. I ordered the Pad Thai and my husband the Chicken Teriyaki Noodles Yakisoba. Portions are plenty and whle they could have done less meat on the yakisoba noodles, we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and thought everything tasted very fresh. I will go back to try the sushi next time but overall I am super excited about this new gem. There's not a lot of places close to the Winter Hill/Sullivan Square area that offers this type of cuisine so it beats driving all the way to Cambridge to fulfill my cravings. The owners are also very friendly and our food came out quick and steaming hot so it's definitely a plus! read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I placed an order around 6:30pm on new years eve. While I know they were busy I placed the order early. Around 7pm the restaurant called me and said "we just received a call from eat 24, we just got your order 15 minutes ago, why you have them call us... It takes time". I explained to the very rude lady that I didn't request it but I placed the order a half hour ago and not 15 minutes previous. She said "OK but it take time!" I thanked her and hung up. I got an update on the eat 24 app stating that the good would be delivered at 7:41pm. I waited until after 8 to call - I know they were busy. The woman the proceeded to yell at me and tell me that I have to wait and they're very busy and then she hung up on me. I called back SIX times and they weren't answering. In the meantime I get a call from my "delivery driver" telling me he can't find my street and telling me that he is on a street that is 3 miles away - mind you the restaurant is less than 1 mile from my delivery address. After telling the delivery driver I am no longer interested and told him in cancelling my order and to have a good night. I called the restaurant back to confirm my order was cancelled and I was again yelled at and hung up on. I have tried to follow up with eat 24 to ensure that I get my close to $30 back but I have not been able to get any response that is helpful. I was given a number to call but it just rang and rang. I am absolutely disgusted at the level of "service" that I have received all around and I will never be going to the restaurant again and I look forward to getting my money back... read more

I've always enjoyed lotus xpress and generally consider it one of the best delivery Asian options available. That's why I was so disappointed with my service the past few times I've ordered there. Both times they brought me a different sushi roll than the one I had ordered. The first time they apologized and delivered the right roll within a reasonable time frame so I didn't think much of it. But tonight, after I checked and they brought me a shrimp tempura roll instead of a spicy tempura roll (which comes with spicy tuna and is $3 more), it was a huge production for them to get me my order, and I could hear them arguing in the background, as if I was being unreasonable for wanting what I had ordered. One guy was sighing and saying "I don't know, it's gonna be a while..." and then asked me to take a picture and send it to prove that I wasn't lying! I was annoyed but sent it, then got a curt text saying "Yep no problem. Get you another one. Will take some time. You can keep that one." damn right, would you expect me to exchange it or something? Now it's been 2 hours since I placed the original order and still no sushi. Disappointing, will make me think twice before I order again. read more
