LSU's School of Social Work failed me completely. A group of students ganged up on me during the MSW program and the instructor never communicated or stepped in. When I asked for disability accommodations, the process dragged on so long that I never received anything in time. I was left unprotected, unsupported, and ultimately forced to drop out. LSU talks about helping students, but when you actually need protection or timely accommodations, they disappear. read more

The campus is beautiful. The grounds are so well kept. We didn't need a permit to park in different places, but you do need to mind the sign. Obviously, don't park where you're not supposed to no matter what day of the week it is. This campus is very old. I believe it was founded in the 1890s. There are so many different buildings and the campus has a huge sporting event center. They also have a small area where people are popping out to take a look at Mike the Tiger, their mascot. My co-ed service fraternity has an active chapter here at this school. That is one of the reasons that we decided to drive through the campus. None of the buildings were open or anything, but it was nice to see the grounds. Unfortunately we couldn't find anybody who was able to give us any information about this university or the different buildings but again, just the grounds were pretty. I can only imagine what it is like when they have sporting events and everyone comes out to support their Louisiana State University Tigers. If I am not mistaken, I believe I heard that Angel Reese, a WNBA player, graduated from the school. That's a fun little tidbit of information. read more

I have been on campus many times. First time was in the early 1990s for my older sister's college graduation. Most recently was to visit a museum. The buildings are beautiful, the grounds are beautifully maintained. All of the buildings I have been in were in perfect working order. All of the old living oak trees are magnificent. We recently did a Residential LSU Tour for my son & the 1st thing you notice as you drive on the campus is how beautiful it is..surrounded by huge trees, water, & the very beautiful buildings..you can literally FEEL the history of the campus . And of course let me not forget the LSU Stadium..it's huge! On the residential tour we saw both types of dorms & helpful info: if your scholar stays in the residential dorms the class sizes are smaller since the classes are held there in the dorm building. Oh & I thought my kid would learn some additional life skills once he goes to college..like buying his own toilet paper BUT NO, LSU campus staff provides & changes out the dorms toilet paper!..now that's the life!! ;) We were only able to do a Residential Tour the day we visited LSU since the Campus Tours were already filled up so just FYI that the Campus Tours do get filled up fast. Doing the Residential Tour for my son was very helpful & I really recommend doing a Residential Tour when deciding to attend LSU as a student. In 2010, I went to LSU to study computer science but quickly realized I had chosen the wrong major. I wasn't sure yet which major would be right for me, and the quality of education was severely lacking at the hands of grad students with no teaching experience. I left and consulted with the Bursar's and Registrar's offices about the appropriate time and procedure to leave. I followed their instructions explicitly, intending to return at a later date when I had figured things out. I had figured things out in 2024 and decided to reapply; my application was accepted, and I was able to schedule classes, but then, out of nowhere, the Bursar's office put a hold on my account and demanded money from me, claiming I owe them approximately $5,000 which I should not because I left following the directions of LSUs administration. If there was a mistake made in documenting my departure or if I was given faulty information, that is an error that lies squarely with LSU, not me. read more

I've had friends from LA talk about this place like it's the greatest thing, and after seeing it I get where the optimism comes from. The architecture makes for an awesome walking tour. Unfortunately there is no free parking anywhere, the welcome center is $1.50/hr. read more

LSU is a beautiful campus. You don't have to be a student to enjoy this campus. Go visit Mike the tiger, or take a walk along the beautiful parade grounds. They offer leisure classes here if you are looking for something fun to do. The bell tower is a popular place for proposals and engagement photos. It's a big campus that offers many different classes. It's a very clean campus too. The student union has many different food places and Barnes and noble bookstore. read more

Let's get this out of the way up front.... I'm not an alum of LSU...I'm an alum of NLU (now called ULM) and The University of Wyoming (Geaux Pokes!)...but other than my 8+ years in Wyoming my life has been spent in the Sportsman's Paradise!!! Since I was a child I have loved all things LSU and suffered during the Mike Archer and Curley Hallman days and still am bitter over Mike Arnsparger's defection to Florida but during those cold winter days in Wyoming as LSU began sticking it's toe into the resurgence pool under Gerry DiNardo I lived for the rare times LSU would be on national television so I could watch the Bayou Bengals ROAR!!! 2 games I could always count on was Auburn and Arkansas!!! Since 2009 I have been blessed to live the Fall life I had always dreamed about....Free of all responsibilities except fatherhood, tailgating on the beautiful campus before SEC games and certain BCS Conference opponent games, walking to Death Valley to take my seat in that storied venue and cheer on the LSU Tigers!!! Starting in 2009, I have created a tradition with my boy wherein we always attend the SEC home opener for LSU until last year when it was so late coming but we made the Washington game (BCS Conference opponent)...I consider it a special Father-Son time and hopefully he will too when he looks back on it...In 2012, I decided it was time to include my baby girl in the love that is LSU and football by taking her to her first game...I will definitely have to pick 2 separate games moving forward because I want each child's memories to be his and hers alone with time spent with Dad rooting on the Tigers!! The campus of LSU is beautiful and just sings of tradition...seeing the throngs/hordes of people scattered everywhere on a Game Day is a sight to behold and I am glad I now live only miles from this gorgeous campus so I can indulge myself in all things LSU at my whim!!! I have a niece that is attending Miss State on a Track & Field scholarship and MSU has a lovely campus which I have had the good fortune to see twice BUT LSU is and will always be the best in the SEC!!!!! read more

I wrote something about my high school, I figure I should throw something up about my college too. I can't even tell you how amazing, wonderful, fantastic and awesome my undergrad experience was. I will forever be indebted to my fabulous alma mater and give them loads of money when I get rich so that I can have a building named after me. It may not be ivy league but I had the most wonderful, inspiring professors who were always encouraging and sympathetic to whatever was going on. Four years after graduation and they still don't even blink to write me a letter of recommendation whenever I need it. LSU is a truly beautiful campus. This university is huge so it's pretty easy to get lost on the side streets and admittedly even in the parking lot. The law school is also historic and its magnificent and splendid as well. The library is huge and they have food spots, coffee shops, novelty shops, book stores including Barnes and Nobles and just so much more. LSU is truly a gem in the world of higher education. LSU also is well known for its high standards and academics and for good reason. LSU scores really high in testing and has a high graduation success rate. read more

Not a bad school by any means, but not a great one either. In at least one class every semester, there's someone who is so stupid that it embarrasses me to attend the same university that they do. I can only hope that degrees aren't being awarded to these individuals, because I wouldn't trust them to operate a toilet successfully. That said, I've had several fantastic profs, and met many many brilliant people. read more

I liked LSU a lot. As a commuter I didn't really participate in extracurricular activities, but I really enjoyed the professors. My parents were afraid that the classes would be too big for me to do well, but I solved that issue by meeting with my teachers during their office hours. The teachers have to have office hours to see students every week, and they're really just sitting in their offices waiting for students to show up. In a class of 250, I only saw one other student visiting that particular teacher... until finals when EVERYONE wanted to show up to ask questions. LSU is also a phenomenal place to visit on game days! You've never seen so much spirit! It might be that the energy is young and colorful and exciting, but it's interesting that people will brave the INSANE Baton Rouge traffic to come here to watch the Tigers play. And let's be honest... Baton Rouge traffic is insane on non-game days. read more

What's the frequency Kenneth? I'd expect nothing less from some malcontent transfer student from VCU to show up and expect LSU, Baton Rouge, the state of Louisiana, and the world in general to cave to his elitist, yet somehow hippie ways. Waa waa, petrochemical engineering, ::sniffle:: it "pollutes and destroys ecosystems"! I can only assume that you rode a bicycle all the way from Richmond when you moved here? This isn't about my response to another Yelper, though I cheerfully point out that I've never met a transfer student that was anything less than miserable about whatever situation they were in and how the situation they're in now is even worse because such-and-such credit didn't transfer or the new school or city doesn't offer this-or-that but the previous school did. When you finally graduate, you're going to find out that the Real World doesn't give a hang about you or your problems or what's supposedly holding you back. Get the whining and complaining out of your system while you're in college. I digress. Despite my five-star review, LSU is not perfect, but I don't believe it or anyone representing the school ever implied that it is. But that said, I met numerous life-long friends through my time at this school and my association to it. I came to LSU from roughly 1,000 miles away, not knowing a soul when I arrived on campus, but I freely say that if I had the whole college experience to do over again, I wouldn't change a thing. I found the study and social aspects of school to be amazingly balanced, and people were extremely welcoming. You worked hard and you played hard. The opportunities were there for those who wanted to make the most of their experience. Mr. Earth over there seems to just want to point fingers and complain about what he sees as being outside what he thinks is best, which is a shame. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a community that seems interested in staying cutting edge and looking forward than that at LSU. My passion and dedication for LSU runs deep enough that I am now pleased to serve as local chapter president of the LSU alumni association. In all sincerity, I'm sorry that Kenneth isn't enjoying his time at LSU. I hope that changes before he's through there. I think a big part of that will come when he meets more people and understands the work hard/play hard mentality that is prevalent in so many Louisianans. Sure, people have passion for the sports teams and crawfish boils and partying... but a vast percentage are also passionate about their education and achieving success. read more

Some of the best years of my life were spent at LSU. I owe my job to LSU.

LSU and Baton Rouge could both use a lot of work. I transferred here from VCU four years ago and I'm excitedly awaiting my graduation date in two years which will be my ticket out of here. As for LSU, many are not aware that our university is not very academically competitive according to national ranks. The university leaves a lot to be desired for students transferring to the school. Acquiring credits from other school and departments within LSU is also nearly impossible. Athletic students receive much more one-on-one tutoring help than other students. The libraries are out of date and inefficient. The student government loves to approve fee hikes and very few protest these actions. The only thing that I can see that is working, is an integration of all racial and ethnic types. People seem to get along here, despite different backgrounds. My biggest complaint is that LSU seems to be stuck in a fantasy world that football, sports, and getting wasted are all that matters. The students are not very aware that our educational environment is incredibly non-sustainable. Recycling programs have failed, and nearby lakes and streams are polluted and contain litter. The school creates vast opportunities for many students to pursue petrochemical engineering, a field that continues to pollute and destroy ecosystems. Apathy and a herd mentality are widespread, and as long as crawfish boils and touchdowns dominate the students' minds, things will never change. Baton Rouge will continue to be a city that is polluted, shuts down at 8pm, and has nothing to offer the students. I invite any high school student with alcoholism, political and environmental apathy, and a general ambition to never leave the state of Louisiana to attend LSU- this school is perfect for you! read more

Hey Kennith, what's holding you back from transferring to a more "academically competitive" school? People who go to LSU are people that don't want to leave the state? Maybe you should look at some of our alumni groups around the world. They're pretty big! I left Louisiana when I graduated and landed a great job in a great city. I'm working my way up the ladder at my company just fine with the LSU degree. There are plenty of people working under me with degrees from fancy elite schools such as the ones that you so desire, only I make more money than they do and they have much, much bigger loans to pay back than I do. The degree is just a piece of paper that says that you are trainable. Employers don't really give a damn about the school that you went to in most cases. They want character and experience. They judge your personality and your willingness to learn. These are all things that you'll discover when you get out into the real world Kennith. College will always be just a fun memory of 4 great years that you can really never get back, because once you start working for a living you won't have time to worry about the recycling program in the dormitories or the frats that got drunk at a football game last weekend. You might as well make some friends and have some fun while you're still there Kennith. LSU isn't perfect, no, but it's one hell of a great place if you decide that that's what you want it to be. LSU has a great academic program and you can take it and run with it if that's what you want to do. What are you comparing LSU to anyway? Harvard? It's a state university and a damned fine one. Someday you'll be sitting in an office working right next to some Penn graduate and making the same salary as him or her. The only difference will be that you had a unique college experience of a lifetime that only LSU can offer. I know it's hard to imagine being proactive right now, because you're still a college student, and you really don't have to be anywhere at anytime or really do anything if you don't want to, but someday you will, and you'll see that the real world doesn't give a shit about a lot of things that you give a shit about while you're in school. You have to get what you want for yourself, including academics, experience, friendships, jobs, etc. The real world is not going to babysit you like college will. I could never ask for anything more than what LSU gave me. I gained a lifetime of personal experience in my 4 years there. Stop worrying about everything and everyone else Kennith. If you don't like pollution then do something about it. Don't sit around and bitch about it. That will get you nowhere in life. And good luck finding a college anywhere on this earth where people don't drink. It's just what the majority of college kids between the ages of 18 and 21 do no matter what school they are at. read more

I really enjoyed my time at lsu. It's a hell of a party school, and while you're living it up (either spending your parents money, ruining your credit with loans, or perhaps on scholarships like myself), you may even learn a thing or two. If you're really serious about getting a good education, this isn't the school for you. The classes here are not challenging, at all. I got one C in my entire 4 years here, in intro chemistry. I never was good at chemistry, but apparently my C means most of the other people weren't either. My college days were characterized by excessive drinking, numerous illegal activities, and even going out and getting hammered right before class. Despite this, it was A after A after A. If a drunk guy can pass all the classes, what's the point? However, there are a lot of dumb people that go here, and still manage to fail. This probably reflects badly on the school somehow, but now that I'm out of it I could care less. The only time I go back here is for tailgating and more drinking. LSU is a great place to party! read more

I had a lot of problems coming into college, but LSU truly gave someone like myself the chance to make it. I screwed up, lost my academic scholarship, dropped out, and then when I returned and earned a perfect GPA in my new major for a year, and showed my commitment to my education, the music department awarded me not only a full tuition scholarship until graduation but a $1000/semester to work for them. I was on my own and struggling financially and LSU worked with me to provide me with the backing I needed so I could write music and practice and not have to work 40+ hours a week instead of learning. I don't think I truly appreciated it while I was there, and I know that in this recession that there are budget cuts, but I really commend the school for giving people a chance to get a degree, no matter their situation, if they are willing to work hard enough. It's not like that in the real world, for the most part. I don't know what is going to happen in my life now, but I'm grateful for the education I got through the school of music there. read more

LSU is absolutely amazing! The campus is beautiful, the classes are great, there is a wonderful variety of extracurricular activities to choose from, and the LSU scene will draw you in right away. It's huge, and there are tons of people, so you can stay in your own world all day long or talk to every person that passes. Most of the buildings, especially in the Quad, are majestic and the oak trees are gorgeous. LSU offers a ton of majors with interesting classes. The professors, for the most part, really do love their jobs. If you want to be a member of a club, Student Government, an honor society, or Greek Life, you can find a fit. There are so many extracurriculars to choose from. And if you like to play sports but don't want to play as a college athlete,you can do intramurals (which are almost as competitive as the NCAA sanctioned sports)! Baton Rouge is big and has a lot offer outside of campus, but right next to campus, you will find a massive amount of restaurants, bars, shops, and movie theaters. Some say there is no nightlife like the one at LSU. And one Saturday night in Death Valley will turn you for good. GEAUX TIGERS! read more
