When we're road tripping it or flying somewhere, we make it a point to search out places that carry great items with a reasonable price tag. And Black Squirrel in charming Lakeview, CT, was on our path while heading to the Berkshires. Black S. has a total of 9 rooms filled with antiques and vintage items sourced from everywhere. This isn't the type of antique shop where you'll have several antique owners under one roof- this my friend, is operated by Joanie and her husband. From jewelry, small furniture items, home decor, art, accessories, etc- you'll find it here. I'll be honest, this isn't the 5 and dime type place. Items do cost- but we had a nice percentage written off in the end for personal reasons- so we appreciated that. If and when you do come here, give yourself a nice chunk of time to browse and feel the items in ALL 9 rooms.

My husband and I had been introduced to this local business by friends. It is over 2 1/2 hours from…read moreour home. We shopped and spent over 700$ in our two trips. The last trip however, we were duped! We purchased items from an upstairs "antique" case from a bottle guy that were from the museum of modern art! We didn't see the very small marking in the very bad lighting until retuning home. We paid $54 total and called and asked to speak with the manager. We explained the way that the items were displayed were "very dubious and misleading!" The manager understood and said it was "unfortunate " to have a problem with this vendor, he was "hard to deal with!" This was a bad time also as they close out the monies to the vendors at the end of the month. This purchase was the end of February. I explained I could not return until mid March for a refund, which she agreed I should receive! She said she would have him, Mr. "Hard to deal with" give her cash for my reimbursement! We returned and to our horror I was given my refund and then told we weren't allowed to shop anywhere in the entire establishment again!!! Are you serious!! I wouldn't of wasted 60$ in gas round trip! I would of went through my credit card company for a fraudulent sale! We had purchased from at least 6 other vendors during our visits. How is it fair to them to not receive our future business!? How is it fair to our friends that introduced us to the business to be tossed out?! What is wrong with the management in this business? How do you not protect your entire umbrella of vendors? This is the first time being a customer I have Ever Been Escorted out of a Business and treated so unprofessionally! I'm not done with this business! I'm going to the BBB, the local newspaper and their local government officials! I was treated with complete disrespect and made to travel 2 1/2 hours to be completely embarrassed in public! They will be very fortunate if I do Not retain an attorney!! Haut design and signed pieces are not the focus of Montage. Decorators and those looking to furnish or add to the style the homes have much from which to choose. My wife and I have purchased many items at Montage and visit the shop regularly. The owners are amiable, helpful and knowledgeable.

Coolest vintage shop in the area!…read more Accidentally bumped into this quaint little shop after driving so many times past here! We decided it was time to just go in. Very deceiving since it seems like a tiny spot but it's actually pretty big with very reasonable pricing and amazing vintage stuff. They even have a small selection of vintage clothing. Cool ceiling lamps, vinyls, cd's, you name it. Awesome staff and things that are very well kept and funky while still super reasonable. Can't wait to come back and hunt for some cool finds. The prices aren't low, but they're fair. Similar items selling on Poshmark and eBay and other such sites are going for double and sometimes triple the prices that they are asking for. They are extremely knowledgeable in their vocation. They know what they're doing and they know the proper price point. They also offer really cool and unique up-cycled products. I urge you to go check out the up-cycled vintage 80s jeans. Vintage Shop Carmel is also a consignment shop so if you yourself are looking to sell vintage or antique goods, including clothing and purses at a great price, they're the ones for you. Last, but not least the ladies who own and work at the shop are absolutely positively incredible. Not only are they knowledgeable, but they are funny. They are kind. They are down to earth and they are helpful. I have a lot of experience with vintage shops and consignment shops, and I have always felt slightly uncomfortable and out of place. I realize that vendors all set their own prices, but I've never been to a more off-putting array of nonsense. It's like everyone looked up the highest eBay asking price and tripled it, hoping to find an idiot. Dollar bin trash records are being sold for prices that insult your intelligence. The absolute worst instance of this up-your-own-buttness was a common Green Goblin trading card, worth about 25 cents, being sold for ten dollars. This is either stupid or malicious, and it compels one to just stop even looking around. If you pay these prices, you are not smart. You are the people these vendors depend on; don't fall for it. If you're a good vendor, sorry - you're surrounded by people who are killing your business by demotivating real buyers from even caring. And please, do not give me that asinine line that "something is worth whatever someone will pay for it". That's garbage. I've been in this business for 25 years. You're wrong. Flea at 99, get better vendors. Selection means nothing if it's all so far above reasonable pricing. I'm not even looking for a discount, just a fair price. Not here. Prices are decent, and the vendors have different styles, so there is something for everyone's taste. Vintage dishes, clothes, carpets, excellent and unique design-oriented home furnishings.
