My husband and I met and married late in life. We are both now 60. We tried to do things together outside the box and this was recommended by a friend. My husband is and honorably discharged Marine who started in the Navy and he is always open to me bragging him to new cultural events thank goodness! I booked this for our anniversary and was very shocked that my awesome husband was so dedicated and involved in the instruction given by our Love & Make teacher, Kim I. Kim I was very professional, informative, and such a pleasure to work with. We also greatly appreciate her patience with two old people who showed up for this event! Our class was full and while we didn't have time to meet the other participants and would have liked to, it was interesting to overhear their comments while they were celebrating their own milestones in life. The value for this class is five star!
I went to Love and Make in Houston to try their candle making class and it was such a great experience. We chose the shorter class that is about 45 minutes to an hour long and it was a lot of fun. You really get to make your candle from start to finish on your own and the process is hands on but easy to follow. We tried out all the different scents which was so enjoyable and then chose the one we liked best. Our class teacher was very informative and very nice, she explained everything clearly and made the experience feel relaxed and creative. The shop itself is set up beautifully and the aesthetics are very pleasing. It feels modern, cozy, and welcoming from the moment you walk in. They even give you the option to upgrade your candle if you want something larger or more customized which is a nice touch. The shop is right in the middle of Rice Village so it makes for a perfect outing, you can shop or grab food nearby and then enjoy the class. Overall this was such a fun and memorable activity, the people are really nice and everything about the process was enjoyable. I would definitely recommend Love and Make to anyone looking for something different to do in Houston or a great activity with friends or family.
Took a perfume class as a late Mother's Day arrangement and thoroughly enjoyed this experience. This black owned brick and mortar is located in Rice Village- with ample parking and eats around the area. The building is clean, spacious and offers so many workshops including candle making, soap making and diffusers. The perfume class ran about 90 minutes and was so detailed. We learned alot about the chemistry of different perfume types and each tier of smells that make a perfume. There were ample options to choose from. It can be a bit overwhelming on the nose since we had to select 3-5 scents in each of the three layers, but they have coffee grounds to help you reset. We ended with a scent that contains 9-15 different fragrances, and the workers did a great job with measuring out each one for us to create our final products. It is also BYOB which makes it a great weekday hangout. We received a signed certificate, gift bag and box with a label for our final product. I love perfumes and having something that is 1/1 and built around my favorite scents. Can't wait to come back with friends!
What a great experience. My friend and I attended the perfume making class. We were given a short educational lesson on perfumes and then instructions before getting to work. Piecing together a scent special for yourself is so much fun and can be a little overwhelming. The staff were there to help and make recommendations based on what you were looking for. I was looking for a more sweet smell and Amelia suggested me adding tobacco on the base to bring out the sweet top notes. It sounded so crazy until I tried it! Thank you ladies for a great class. I've been wearing my perfume every day. They allow $60 refills for if you decide if you want more of your custom scent.
This was an amazing and informative activity!! I can't wait to come back and make more perfumes, candles, diffusers... all of it. My husband and I attended a birthday event and had no idea what to expect. The scent selection was amazing and Rachel's instructions were clear!! Came here for a date night and had a great time! I've never made a candle before, so I was a little nervous, but the staff was so sweet and made me feel right at home. Our instructor, Gigi, was amazing. I was shocked when she mentioned it was her first class because she taught like a pro! She was so confident, kind, and patient. Picking out our scents was probably my favorite part (there are so many to choose from!) and the vessel selection was just as fun. The whole place has such a cozy, welcoming vibe. It's perfect for a date, girls' night, or even a solo date!
This was an amazing experience! We came here for the scent making class. From start to finish the staff was insightful and friendly. Upon arrival we were greeted by the staff and checked in. Afterwards we were sat down and shown where we can place our bags and we were able the choose what color bottle we wanted. We were given a lesson on how to make our scent as well as what the difference in strength of scents are from eu fraiche all the way to essentially a pure oil based scent. We were educated on the base, mid, and top scents and how they affect each other along with the time frames they last. They have an array of oil scents to try and they encourage you to try all of them to see what compliments each other. Throughout the process the staff will help with recommendations if you want for compliments and what would make your scent pop more. Once you're done, the staff helps you figure out the math behind how much of each oil to add to your bottle and how to use the dropper to measure out the amounts. Once you fill your bottle they make sure you get the best bang for your buck and you can add additional anounts of of your scent in order to tweak if you like it where it is or not. Upon completion you get to name your scent and they give you your card so if youd like to replicate your scent you can come back and they will make another bottle for you. This was a wonderful experience. I want to go back. This is a black owned woman owned business and they hit all the marks of what good business is!
The owners are amazing and the location is a space that welcomes your creative direction. The place is ideal for family or date night or to hone a craft or to further develop a hobby. This place will always be special to me. I ventured into it alone and ended up having some of the best one on one attention for creating a few masterpieces within these walls. Everyone who enjoys bougie parfumee should try this at least once!
This is my second time making candles, first time here. Unsuspecting from the outside, it's a cute little shop with plenty of seating and tables as well as shelves and coat racks for belongings. It is BYOB, but they do have cups, corkscrews, and water should you need it. The options are massive in terms of scents and containers for your candles; I love the option to upgrade. You can also have your items mailed to you. With 80 scents, the options are endless, and the staff are good as helping you create the vibe you are looking for. The major difference is that there were no options to color your wax for reasons I can't remember, but I feel like the other options made up for it. Beautiful place. Lovely, accommodating staff who also fixed my resy when I booked the wrong day

What a great experience from start to finish!!!!! I had the pleasure of attending a perfume making class at the Love and Make studio. It was fun , informative and we left with the absolute cutest signature scent. The directions from the staff was very easy to follow, they were all extremely helpful and left no man behind lol. I participated in Love & Make's Virtual Candle Making Workshop and it was so much fun! I signed up with a bunch of people from my work and we did it as a team building activity. We did the Round Tin 7 oz DIY Candle Set and I got to choose two scents. I went with Apple Maple Bourbon and Cashmere Plum. Of course it was difficult to know what they would smell like, but both were very pleasant! The kit has pretty much everything you need (tins, wax chips, wicks, wick holders, labels, fragrance oils, stir stick, melting pot, and thermometer). You just need a stove or hot plate, and it helps if you have some paper towels and rubbing alcohol (it removes the wax from your tools). The kit comes with instructions, but it also has a voucher for the virtual workshop, where a teacher guides you through the process. Our teacher was super nice and very informative. I've played around with candle making before, but I never realized that there is some science involved (proper temperature for heating the wax, when to add the fragrance, etc). I think my two candles turned out really well! Plus, most of the tools are reusable, so I could easily make more by buying a few materials. read more
HAD SO MUCH FUUUN! We came for a Vday couple's candles & cocktails class, and it was the best. Be WARNED: you may feel a bit overwhelmed w/alllll the different options and fragrances, but yet it's sooo much fun to try and craft your own fragrance. I'm already a candle/perfume addict - really all body care, so this didn't help; but what the heck. The instructor was very detailed in explaining every step of the process, and it was also fun chatting with the other couples too. The music and the vibes (90's rnb) were on point - met with delicious cocktails made it even better. In a nutshell, I can't wait to go back and make more candles as well as bath bombs (yes they offer that too). I think that it adds a special flare knowing that it's something you personally created, which will make your home or personal space feel all the more special. read more
My 14 person party enjoyed the outcome of our candles! We booked the 45-minute class which was about $40 per person and included 1 candle. We spent quite a while picking out the scents because our party was so large and we were all sharing smells with one another. So, if you have a large group, I highly recommend booking Love & Make's 2-hour session. I booked a private candle making class here for my birthday in August 2023. I emailed the owner and store manager and they were very helpful in setting up the appointment. We emailed back and forth several times and they were very patient and friendly. They have several candle jar options to pick from ranging from basic to more sophisticated and cute! During the workshop you will also have the opportunity to select from what felt like dozens of scents and smells. You won't have a problem finding the scent you like! Finally, Customer Service here is amazing. There were certain things that my group was not happy with and the owner went above and beyond to make sure that our issues were fixed. read more

Absolutely enjoy coming to Love & Make! Came here with friends for 2 of their workshops, candle making and soap making. The candle making workshop was pretty cool. Most of what you need is laid out for you. They'll explain the process before you begin making your candles. For the candle container, you have the choice to stick with their free ones or upgrade at a cost to their other selections. I had the hardest time picking out fragrances for 2 candles as I'm very picky with scents. I like that the staff is always ready to help you with the process and speed up. The more time you waste choosing fragrances, you might finish last. Since taking this workshop, my smaller candle doesn't have a strong scent. But the bigger one has a lingering scent after blowing it out a few hours. As for the soap making workshop, I loved it! I'm not into candles but I do love handmade soap bars! It was more hands-on and interesting than making candles. You can mix colors, add fragrances, and add toys and/or botanicals. It was a fun activity to do and wish I could have made more soap than I did. If I had to do another workshop again, I would pick soap making hands down. One con is they don't have much availability for it in a month. They might have 3 soap making classes in 1 month versus the candle classes are available several times a week. Highly recommend choosing Love and Make for any of the workshops they offer, whether it's for team-building, with your partner/spouse, parent, or whomever. My husband's work had a team building event with Love&Make today and I got to join in. It was virtual and I was a little skeptical about how long they could make a melt and pour soap class and if it would be interesting. I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed myself. So much so that I might order myself some more kits to play around with myself! Kits were mailed out to each team member. We received a kit with the soap base, dyes, scent, molds, a melting cup, mixing sticks, alcohol, and even little dye mixing cups and sticks. Pretty much the only thing you need at home is a microwave and a cutting device like a knife, but it doesn't even need to be that sharp. I didn't catch who lead our group today, but she was great! It was fun to watch her demonstrate the steps. She also told us a lot more about soap making and tips and tricks for other things you can do with soap pouring. My husband and I ended up having a great time and it wasn't too difficult (and easy for me to clean up after). I have a lot of allergies and sensitive skin, so I opted out of the dyes and used salt as my botanicals which makes for a really boring photo of my plain looking soap, but my kitchen really smells good right now and I'm going to investigate more on what dyes I might be able to safely use so I can be more creative next time! I really think this would be an awesome activity in person as well. There would be so much more interaction with your friends. But even if you aren't local, if you can get a bunch of friends together in the same room and have Love&Make instruct via zoom, it would be awesome. And you if you want to try it alone without instruction, the instruction card that came with is very clear. I wouldn't have gotten all the extra tips and tricks but I could have poured soap for some fun gifts and to use myself even. read more

I went here for a special soft launch for a perfume making class.. It was my first time but definitely not my last time.... Ladies bravo . I had an amazing time. The staff here all deserve a gold star for exceptional service. The layout of the class was easy to follow and trust me you will leave out smelling amazing. Also make sure get some of those beautiful candles. I got three .. I truly enjoyed myself and I will be returning soon to purchase and to see these beautiful ladies again. Job well done read more

Alicia was wonderful in thoroughly explaining the basics of making perfume. It was nice to also have an assistant Ekemini--to help. They were really great at aiding how to balance the different notes and frequently checking to see if we had any questions. There were a lot of scents to choose from, and your senses can get overwhelmed. I was mindful of not deeply inhaling each scent. I was overall very happy about how my perfume came out. Also loved that it's BYOD (drink), which made the experience 100xs better. Thank you for a great time!! read more

Great spot! We attended the soap making class for a date. Lots of instructors moving around to help and answer questions, and the process is easy to follow and fun. Lots of ways to customize your soap: soap base and skincare properties, colors, fragrance, mix-ins, lots of different molds to choose from. I wanted something very simple and clean and my partner did something very high concept and both came out great. Pickup was ready the next day and was a very seamless process. Also convenient location in Rice Village so plenty of places to eat before or after. You get a LOT of soap (2lbs/12 bars), so that + the experience = definitely worth the price, not to mention that you get to support a woman-owned small business. Hoping to try out the other class offerings in the future! read more

My friends and I signed up for the candle making workshop and we loved it! It's a small business, with a cute little shop that makes it feel intimate. Not only did we learn how to make candles, we also learned about chandlers and different thinks about candles that I never knew. The owner was very friendly and knowledgeable and I'd def go back to purchase candles from them. They also offer soap making classes that seem pretty cool. read more

Amazing experience!! I decided to try something new for my birthday and had an amazing time creating my own candle. The instructors were super nice and helpful along the way. I believe they said it is a family own place and they are in a new location near river oaks. It's a great activity to do with your friends, partner, or mom! I'm actually taking my mom and sister in law soon as a late Mother's Day celebration. I can't wait for them to create their own candle as well! They also offer classes online and classes on how to create soap. read more

Candle making class was a birthday present to my wife. It was a wonderful experience for both of us. Amara and Eva were our instructors. They were so warm and welcoming. Eva was helping us at every step of the process. Amara was a great teacher. We have been candle lovers for so long but we learnt a lot of new things about candles from her. The place was cute and well organized. Good spacing between customers and they had a huge collection of fragrances. It definitely was an overwhelming process to come up with a combination of fragrance for our candle. Various candle jars were available and few had additional charge but they were all affordable. Overall this was a beautiful and relaxing experience. Great for couples, dates and even for team building. read more

This is a hidden gem... I've been wanting to make my own perfume and it's so hard to find a place to do it. I found them online and chose to do their class with my friend. Can I just say... it was such a fun, educational experience. The workers were so knowledgeable, kind, personable, and helpful. My friend and I were impressed with their smelling abilities and patience. Now I have this amazing scented, quality perfume which I'm trying to figure out how to make more. Our hostesses, Amelia, Tina and team were very friendly and very patient with us in showing us how to make candles. They all had great personalities and the venue was spotlessly clean. Brought my whole family to celebrate a birthday and they were able to accommodate all five of us! It was a very unique experience and we enjoyed the walked through with the staff. We were a little rushed at the end but only because there were so many scents to get through. Definitely recommend the candle making class if you're looking for a unique experience in Houston. read more
