Parking was all curbside on this block of El Cajon Blvd. I noticed one outside table next to the entrance. Inside was a bar that could seat about six customers along with several other small tables. The ambiance was cozy to say the least. The one-page food menu featured starters, salads, pastas, and pizzas. The last category filled half the page with a dozen varieties. A pizza was too much for me so I looked at the three different pasta entrees. My pick was the Short Rib Cavatelli that was made up of eight hours of braised meat in a tomato sauce covering the shell-shaped noodles. It took less than 15 minutes for my order to be readied and packaged. While the meat and sauce were hearty, the reason I didn't give a higher rating was the portion size for $18. The amount didn't fill up the takeout container, and the price didn't come with bread or a side salad either. This might be my new neighborhood favorite for pizza. We came here for date night, and the space felt cozy and intimate with the dim lighting. We ordered the Pig Paradise pizza, which was a creative twist on a classic Hawaiian. The flavors felt much more elevated than your typical pineapple-and-ham combo. The pizza was the perfect size for two, and we even had leftovers to take home (which were just as good the next day). Our server was attentive without being overbearing, and we never had an empty glass of water. Overall, it was such an enjoyable dining experience. We came around 5 on a Friday to this small restaurant which was 80% empty. The waiter was busy so we sat down and waited our turn. The waiter was concerned about whether we had a reservation and had to check their iPad if they had availability for us, in a relatively new mostly empty restaurant. This welcome wasn't the best but the meal goes on. The food was very hot and fresh. The short rib gnocchi was amazing in texture and as a dish as a whole. The garlic confit on the mushroom pizza was delicious and you shouldn't skip gelato at the end. There wasn't a particular wow factor flavorful bite I remember, but it was a satisfying meal nonetheless. Olive Oil Cake + Pistachio Gelato - Olive oil cake is so underrated, and though my friend said she didn't want dessert, I asked for two spoons because sometimes a bite or two is all you need. We were very happy to see ​this place open near us by SDSU. We have struggled to find pizza we enjoy in this area, and had high hopes for Love Letters. We were not disappointed. Although the $​34 price for a ​16 inch pepperoni pizza was surprising​, the quality ​was outstanding​.​ The crust was delicious--​thin but not cracker-like and pillowy with a ​little char. The amount of sauce was perfect​ and didnt have a strong acidic tomato flavor that often dominates some pizzas. The little cup shaped pepperoni had a​ just a little kick which was appreciated as the last pepperoni pie we had was pretty spicy. The addition of dollops of creamy ricotta took the pizza to the next level.​ We were also pleased to find that picking up our order at 6:30 PM on a Saturday was easy, with plenty of street parking available.​ Though that may have been a fluke, it was good to know that in the future we likely won't have to circle the block over and over to find parking. Started with the Caesar salad, chef's kiss. It's real easy to f up a Caesar but this one is perfection. We also enjoyed the pepperoni pizza and short rib gnocchi. It's very clear that they put so much love and amazing ingredients into their food. Helped a friend move into her new apartment in the neighborhood and we were exploring the food options in the area. Stumbled upon this lovely pizza shop and we were able to get a seat at the bar immediately. Staff were very friendly and the ambiance was very chic; I'll definitely have to come back for drinks when I'm not driving. All pizzas come as 16" thin crusts--New York style, just how I like it--and are freshly made in house. It took a bit of time for it to come out, but the wait was totally worth it. And instead of seating us the manager makes a huge ordeal about us not having a reservation. To a pizza place?? Why would you not take a walk-in that's ready to spend money and support your business. I was told it gets really busy there on a Friday night. Well if it's that busy why do you have to make reservations you're guaranteed customers that walk in?
