After all these years, Lovina is still fantastic! We come up to Calistoga about once a year and Lovina is the highpoint of the weekend (and there are many great things about Calistoga, so the bar is high). The food and drinks are fantastic, as is the service. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable, great for a romantic date or dinner with a group of friends. My only problem is that I tend to eat too much because everything on the menu looks so good and I order too many items... but that's truly my fault and not the fault of Lovina's! Don't even bother. The place is cute. Nice ambiance. After being seated, the 5 of us waited over 15 minutes for anyone to greet us and take our drink order. When I tracked down the person who seated us hastily, I said, "Hi, we haven't been greeted." His response: "Well, we're extremely busy right now" He said it loudly and in a rush, and walked off. I was with 4 colleagues, who all heard the rude employee (maybe the manager/owner/who knows) yell in my face. We walked out. So much good food here! The surprising stand-out to us was the short rib. It wasn't noted in many other reviews, but our entire family devoured it and seriously debated getting a second helping. * A reservation glitch on Lovina's end turned our planned bachelorette dinner into an unpleasant experience when the restaurant's manager, Ian, handled the situation unprofessionally and rudely upon arrival* On August 16, 2025, I reserved a dinner for a group of six women to celebrate my friend's bachelorette trip, and unfortunately, we had a very unpleasant experience upon check-in with the restaurant manager, Ian. I had made an OpenTable reservation on July 23, 2025, and even paid a $150 deposit. When I arrived, the staff could not find my reservation in their system. I refreshed my OpenTable app in front of them, clearly showing the active reservation, yet Ian immediately became flustered, defensive, and passive-aggressive instead of working toward a solution. We were asked to wait outside before being escorted to a table, but during this time Ian approached me and began bringing up irrelevant past reservations, including cancellations, which had nothing to do with the current situation. He pointed his finger at me, spoke in a rude and condescending manner, and insisted on re-verifying my deposit, despite me showing proof that the charge had already been processed. What made this even more frustrating was that there were no other groups waiting outside--yet he treated us as though we were a problem. When one of my friends calmly expressed that he should have handled the situation with more professionalism, especially since the glitch was clearly not our fault, Ian immaturely walked away in the middle of the conversation. A few seconds later I received an email notification that my so-called lost reservation had been cancelled. This dinner was supposed to be a fun highlight of our bachelorette trip, and instead it was overshadowed by poor management and unprofessional behavior. Lovina Restaurant is located in downtown Calistoga on the main street in a historic home. The sign outside says great food and it doesn't lie!  This quaint home has several outdoor dining spaces as well as a beautiful dining room inside. We had a reservation and were sat rather quickly next to a window overlooking the patio.  Lovina is uniquely tip-free and their menu pricing provides a living wage and benefits to their team including 30% of all sales going to their employees.  The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and service was great throughout our visit.  The menu is seasonal and locally sourced, which you can't get better than that! We had the following: - Warm Model Bakery Sourdough with whipped kale pistachio pesto butter and black flake salt! Yes please to all of this! I've never had kale pistachio pesto butter or let alone heard of it and it was to die for!  - Seared Wild Halibut which comes with fresh gnocchi and roasted mushrooms that makes this dish a delight!  -Oven Roasted Broccolini with toasted almonds. Yum!  - Wine Forrest Risotto with wild mushrooms and black truffle butter, which made this amazing! This manager couldn't run a McDonald's, let alone a fine dining restaurant. I honestly don't understand how this place has good reviews. We arrived on time for our 7pm reservation, were polite, ordered two bottles of wine, an appetizer, and entrees -- and then... we waited. And waited. The table next to us, seated after we were, received their food -- including what we had ordered. When we asked about the delay, our server responded with visible frustration and zero professionalism. After even more waiting, we requested our meals to-go along with the check. Instead of an apology, the waitress became confrontational and sent the manager over without us asking -- a move that only screamed guilt and poor leadership. The manager arrived and immediately took a defensive, dismissive tone, acting as if the fault was entirely ours. No accountability. No effort to fix the situation. Just arrogance. As for the food? Not worth the wait. The Bolognese was forgettable, the risotto bland -- both underwhelming in a region known for world-class cuisine. This place clearly needs a reset: better management, better staff training, and a serious lesson in hospitality. Lovely intimate restaurant. The service is friendly and knowledgeable though the kitchen was very slow. There were four of us for dinner on Wine Wednesday. Wednesday there is a red and white wine. Select that is 50% off the bottle. We had a 2021 Barlow Petite Verdot which was the red for the evening. Quite nice. One of their signature dishes is a pork and beef Bolognese, which was very flavorful. We also had the Wine Forest Risotto dish with short rib that was excellent. The soup du jjour was a cold corn chowder was likewise very good. I would quibble with one thing which is the gem salad. Completely overdressed. Lovina is Tip Free! Menu prices include revenue share, 401(k) with employer match, paid family leave, 50% funded health & dental insurance, & two weeks paid vacation for our hard-working employees. 30% of all sales are distributed directly to staff ~No Tips Expected~ but we tipped extra. Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable snd service was excellent throughout our meal. Corkage of $20 is waived if you purchase a bottle off the list (we did - a nice Verdichio) Our group of four sat outside under an adjustable heater as temperatures dipped into the 50s. It remained comfortable throughout. We shared the Model Bakery bread (yummmm), deviled eggs (I skipped) and we each had a mushroom soup "shooter" ( fantastic) to start. Everyone ordered a different entree and we tasted around. Here's the group take: Spicy Heritage Pork & Beef Bolognese $43 - not only the dish of the meal, but dish of the trip among eight different restaurants in the valley. Roasted Half Mary's Chicken $48 - delicious Winter Squash & Burrata Risotto $38 (GF) apple cider braised kabocha & butternut, baby shiitakes, almonds, pea shoots, porcini crumble, tomato oil, parmesan WITH sliced grilled chicken addendum. Yummy! Harvest Mushroom Gnocchi (mine) was the group's least fav despite some good flavors - the truffles were preserved and as a truffle lover, it detracted from the dish, as did too much sauce. Lackluster or underwhelming. I tried to figure out why I cannot give any stars to Lovina. I look for a friendly welcoming staff eager to serve; Tasty food, plated well, great service, an inviting atmosphere, nice decor, and value for my $$$. I stayed awake a while after last night's (11-22-25) dinner, and came up with a feeling of discouragement, feeling duped/tricked and asking why $170 dinner for two had little to no flavor and why the water was better than the non-alcoholic wine from Europe. We both had the halibut entree and the sharp knife was perfect for cutting the halibut. Our entree did not have as much food on the plate as pictured on Yelp. When employees are not trying to earn a tip it's a socialist joint. You pay their benefits as stated in the menu and online. I believe this place is busy with hungry unsuspecting travelers feeling sorry for those trying to earn a living. Going my readers some hope ~Truss at the Four Seasons is less expensive and has excellent service and food and decor. read more

Made the drive up to Calistoga for a spa day with the girls and we decided to get brunch to start the day! We were greeted warmly at the entrance and brought over to a semi-private room for our group of 6 ladies. It was beautifully decorated and it felt so warm and charming, we were immediately impressed. For December they had a series of holiday cocktails and mocktails, of which I opted for the hot apple cider! There was also a holiday smores coktail that i can't remember the name, but it was "Night of something.." and it was soooo good! For food, we ordered almost everything on the menu since we had the perk of being in a group that's down to share. The favorites from the group were: 1. Omeleti du jour - I thought the eggs would be softer like a japanese style omlette, but it was delicious despite my expectations! 2. Grilled Cheese - this seems so basic, but honestly it was SO good..so much cheese and the bread was so crispy and buttery 3. French toast - this basically always makes the list of faves cuz we be basic. 4. Truffle Devil Eggs - hehe because...eggs. :) Service was wonderful and we loved our experience here. Started a little tense when we showed up early and were told they have no where for us and we needed to leave and come back. After a long day hiking Yosemite that is not what I wanted to what and there were empty tables. We did come back and I will say the food was fantastic. Started with the sourdough bread and that pistachio truffle butter was insane. The gentlemen did redeem himself over the course of the meal and I found him fun and pleasant. I'm completely a meat kind of gal but all you vegans...they have it down. The bolognese (make it dirty - meaning melted cheese and truffle) was decadent. My halibut was good and the gnocchi and flavors accompanying it were well balanced. My friends chicken with butternut sqaush was a great seasonal choice. When you're paying a few hundred dollars for dinner, they should not screw up 3 out of 4 drink orders. The staff should check in occasionally to see how things are going. You shouldn't have to repeatedly ask for more water. It shouldn't take 15 minutes to flag someone down to get the check. Delicious delicious and some of the best of the best service. Our party of seven came in for brunch and got seated outdoors under the shade tarps which was private and cutely tucked away. We especially liked the dining arrangement as we were seated at a large squarish table that allowed everyone to talk comfortably without having to shout. We started out with some house coffee to which they happily refilled once we were out. Even serving the creamer in cute little jars. The brunch menu is extensive and even includes some heavier lunch items for those who favor lunch items over classic breakfast choices. A friend and I decided to split the breakfast burrito and little gem salad. The burrito was massive and they even grilled the tortilla a bit for the added crunchy bite! It was packed with scrambled eggs, cheese, tater tots, and chorizo. With a little sprinkle of hot sauce the dish was filling and the perfect meal to kick off a wine tasting day. We also ordered the little gem salad with smoked wild salmon which was an added $9, but well worth the price. The salad was well dressed and balanced, it didn't feel overly citrusy or heavy. Make sure to start or end your meal with the hot cinnamon rolls as they aren't overly sweet and come warm to your table. The interior is molten with pecans and cinnamon sugar and the cream cheese frosting is excellent. Not too rich and has that signature sour cream taste without being overly sweet. Everyone enjoyed their meal and was glad to support a business that provides a living wage to their employees. Passing through town, my friends and I stopped at Lovina's for brunch. We didn't have a reservation and knew it might be a gamble. Thanks to a rainy Sunday morning, we were able to walk in and get a table in a cute little side room where a table perfect for the six of us gave us a private space to enjoy ourselves. Across our party we ordered the French omelet, French toast, bacon eggs Benedict and the wild smoked salmon benedict. Sunday had a brunch menu even though we ate at 2pm. There was only one vegan option which was the Almost Bolognese impossible meat with pasta. It was tasty and I would get it again, but it was on the small side. Service was pleasant but they forgot about my tea. No biggie. I heard so much about their vegan options but was a little disappointed to see only one option besides a salad. Overall we would return but would like to see more vegan choices. Love that they are woman owned and that their pottery dishes you eat on are made by her. Generally love the vibe of the place. Absolutely hands down awesome that there's no tipping because everything is included in the price. And, cannot say enough about the fact that they give benefits, including 401k to their employees. Lovina does so many things right it's ridiculous! They are based in an adorable converted house, the proprietor Jennifer greets you warmly, she also does the beautiful ceramic dish ware, and they pay their employees a living wage with benefits (tips not expected). Plus, the food matches all those superb elements. My partner and I both got the Tuscan Kale Salad (the vegan version for me) which comes with an umami dressing that is simply addicting--so much so that we ordered a third one to split after we finished the first two. The only nits are that there isn't nearly enough duck in the original version, there is way too much red onion in both versions, and that they don't tell you there will be avocado in the vegan version. I know I'm in the minority getting peeved about avocado, but I don't like it in general and I don't like unannounced visitors in my meals. Other than that, Lovina is a worthy destination restaurant and we look forward to visiting again for years to come. read more

I've been to Lovina before. That time they were down a chef but made a huge effort to serve us and gave us some desserts to go as compensation. The desserts were excellent. I was impressed and was looking forward to going back again. We made a reservation for 6pm but knew at 5.30pm that we were running late. The host at the front desk nice and let us push our reservation to 6.30pm. We had a party of 6 and were seated in a room on our own, which was nice. It felt like being in someone's living room which I liked. Lovina was part of Napa Valley Restaurant week so there was a three course meal for $59. I got salad, pasta and bread pudding. My partner got the soup, risotto and a dessert (I can't recall what). The salad was fresh and crispy. I loved the fresh pasta which was flavorful and had a nice bite to it. The bread pudding was good. I tried the soup which was very hot (as I like it) and delicious. The risotto had a great flavor. The servers were attentive and friendly.
