Although I have a feeling that the Village Bakery may have its own not-so-local addicts. It's one of those places that looks almost warehouse like from the outside so you don't really look twice. Once you decide to visit Village Bakery though, it's a whole different story! It's elegant and welcoming inside, Open plan type counter and seatings and bread, cakes and pastries, pies and the smell of coffee. It's bright and smells delicious inside. You know you're gonna put on those kilos here. Bread are fresh daily, and there's also a selection of cheap day old bread on the side. Fresh whole meal loaf will set you back about $4 and between $1-3 for day old sourdough, rolls etc. I tried the Nutella donuts ($4)ea also available with jam or custard Pies and pasties selection include lamb, chicken and vego and there's also quiches on offer It was super difficult to keep my eyes off he cake cabinet... Eeeegggghhhhh I spied meringues, berry tarts cheesecakes, EVERY THING looks good!!!! I walked out still sniffing the coffee in the air and thinking about my next purchase... Sure they make your typical varieties of fresh breads and sweets, but it's the Greek speciality items on offer that makes The Village Bakery worth a visit. The spanakopita in particular is a rare treat. They don't make it often, so when it is available, the locals flock to it. The folio pastry they use must be homemade as it's nothing like the stuff you'd find in a supermarket. It's thicker and beautifully crispy on top. The filling has the perfect balance between salty feta and earthy spinach. I can definitely see why it runs out so fast. One morning I popped in to grab one of their Greek pastries with the custard in the middle, and the owner told me they had just baked a fresh batch and went to get me a one from the back. It was still warm which made it twice as good. Now I try to get there in the morning hoping to score another freshly baked goody.

It was already full by this stage and had a constant stream of locals grabbing donuts for the morning. We ordered a ham and cheese croissant, egg and bacon bun and a coffee. The coffee was fantastic. Could not fault. The bun and croissant were delicious, the scramble in the bun was especially good. We sat was a little watching the steady stream come and go before grabbing some take away baked goods. We got all 3 donuts flavours with the favourite being hot cross bun donut. Donut dough with sultanas and filled with custard. Amazing! We also grabbed a choc chip marshmallow cookie. The size of my hand and absolutely delicious. I could live off these! Moderate room inside to sit and a few tables out. All the food is able to be taken away and it also runs as a standard bakery with beautiful artisan breads. We will definitely be back soon and it's now our go to place to pick up treats when visitors come over.

Especially considering a loaf of mass produced bread in the supermarket can be almost the same price. The girls serving are lovely and friendly. Parking is easy right on the street out front. The Pure Pie family pies have a huge flakey crust, so there's no arguments about whether or not you have been stitched up here. I often grab some white rolls when I'm making hamburgers, because they're easy to get to on my way home. They do have a lot of competition in the location that they are in, but for the products that they offer, they're every bit as good as the others. I haven't yet had any pies or sausage rolls there, but the people are lovely and chatty, and I've always walked out feeling as good as you could expect when you buy something at a bakery. I'm not a huge fan of the pies, the pastry was soggy and the filling a little on the bland side, but the pasties were ok. The pastry was flaky (though again the filling was on the bland side). Not a stand out bakery, but worth going their for their bread.
