During the weeks…read moreprior to closing communication was very poor and if we emailed a question we had to wait 48-72 hours for a response, often I would have to follow up since no response ever came from either the attorney or paralegal. A few days before closing I received an email that they were still waiting on the info sheet from us so they could prepare the closing. We never received the info sheet and they never bothered to follow up until days before closing. They later said they had been having "computer issues" and maybe it never made it to us. At the closing, the closing attorney who was recommended to us and who we had been communicating with the whole time, never showed up for our closing. They subbed in another attorney at the last minute (we still have never heard from the attorney we originally talked to). At the closing we were told all the statements weren't ready - turns out they waited until that morning to submit documents to the lender (they had the docs for weeks prior) and hadn't gotten them back yet. We waited for over 2 hours. Our lender from BBT was nice enough to be at the closing with us and she spoke up to the attorney and said there was no excuse for the extreme delay because they had all the documents for weeks in advance. The attorney could not have shown less concern and told our lender not to tell him how to do his job. After a total of 3 hours and some additional confusion over paperwork, we were out of there, only to receive an email 3 days later that they had made another mistake on one of the forms and we needed to sign and send back. My husband owed over $4000 on a joint credit card we had. When I left him it was a 0 balance and he quickly charged a lot on it so I had it shut down. She failed to tell advise me correctly that even if we stated in our separation agreement he was responsible for this balance the bank did not care. When he missed payments the bank ruined my credit and would not accept any of the divorce settlement paperwork saying he was responsible for the balance. They said they were not at the table when the agreement was made and I had signed as a person jointly responsible for the account. Something any good lawyer would know. Additionally, she made a big deal out of who would be responsible for our daughter's healthcare. Of course I wanted that responsibility for a girl. The trade off with his lawyer was I would let him continue to be the person in control of her fund we set up for college. He was a horrible alcoholic drug addict, and I had to go through years of my child calling me when she could not a hold of her father to pay the college fees. Again, any good lawyer should have known this would happen. And she way over charges. She is a nightmare. Has no business being a divorce attorney for anyone. I fired her before it was finalized because of course she wanted more money to proceed with the finalization when I felt I had paid her more than enought.

This is my experience with her representation…read more I explained the details of my case to her in my consultation, and she advised me that she would be able to represent me effectively. I moved forward trusting that she would make some effort to help me, but that was not the case. During the time we worked together, she made no effort to retain or record any of the information or facts I provided her with. I had to explain all of the details of my case to her multiple times even months after retaining her. I had to go over one critical piece of information three separate times, and the third time she had no recollection or notes about the first two conversations. This was a deeply upsetting matter to discuss and having to do so multiple times was extremely detrimental to my mental health. All of this resulted in many duplicate conversations on my bill. After I was advised by Beverly to hire a company to conduct an investigation, I had to have a paid conversation just to explain that the pictures they sent Beverly were the same pictures I had provided her with shortly after I retained her. This company was never able to produce a single piece of evidence that any such investigation ever took place. I know that I should have questioned all of this more as it became clear that I was not a priority, but I really wanted to believe that after everything I had been through that I could trust the legal representation I hired to help me. I consistently attempted to ask Beverly for guidance and advice on how to move forward, and was met with nothing more than snide comments and sometimes outright laughter.  The amount of hours she charged me for does not align in any way with what was accomplished. Both my final attorney and opposing counsel were absolutely shocked at how much I spent on legal fees. I was clearly taken advantage of during a very weak time in my life, and this did nothing but cause more stress and trauma on top of the pain and heartache I already experienced in this matter.
