EDIT: Returned today with intentions to purchase roughly $1600 worth of carpet and carpet padding.
Rang the bell for Special Assistance. Guy came over, turned it off, and said "We called in a code for it," answered his wireless store phone and walked away. 5 minutes later I called the store from my cell and when the girl finally answered, I told her I was in the store at the flooring desk and needed to speak to the manager immediately. She said "He ain't workin' right now. Call back later." Then she hung up on me.
The Store Service Manager approaches a few moments later after another customer who came up shortly after I did flagged a young girl down and she called the guy I guess. He offered his assistance but I'd now been waiting 30 minutes. I went across town to Stephen's Outlet. Same carpet, and I paid a little over half the money.
Hey, Lowe's. You've lost my cash. And I still have 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a hallway to remodel; 2 porches to build; and need to purchase another storage shed. Home Depot at least ACTS like they value my presence.
Where does one begin with this "store". Customer service is nearly non-existent. Selection is poor. Lumber quality is horrific! (Green, bowed, curved, severely chipped/gouged, full of knots... most should have been culled for scrap!) The place is dirty, out of order, and poorly lit in some places where I've noticed lights to be out for weeks.
I have a lower back problem from an injury I sustained in 2016. Today, I had to pick up 6- 50lb bags of mortar. While in the aisle, 2 employees asked if I needed help and I said, "I could use a hand loading these onto the cart and into my truck." One responded, "I'll call someone to help you," and I soon heard the "Special Assistance Needed" page for plumbing. He never returned. The other responded, as he kept walking by without breaking pace, "Yeah. *chuckle* Those things are heavy," and never bothered to offer help.
I dug through 11 bags of mortar to find 6 that weren't torn open bad enough to spill all over the place.
I go to the register, and the cashier stares at the bags as after looking at all visible sides and says, "Hmm. Do you know where the barcode is?"
Me: "Likely on the back."
Her: "And none of the backs is showin'"
She takes 2 minutes to flip one over as her fake nails are causing an issue.
Her: (as she rings me up) "Next time you could load one already flipped, ya know, to help us out up here."
Me: "Sure. Can I get someone to help me load these in my car?"
Her: "We don't offer load assistance on small items, sir."
I've spoke. To the store manager in the past regarding selection, store appearance, and employee knowledge (lack thereof) and employee attitude(poor). Blame was shifted to corporate and regional for selection, and told the employees are well-trained and knowledgeable regarding the products in their areas. I must be getting the employees in zones they aren't trained in.
Overall, I've started doing a LOT of my shopping for my home remodel at the Knightdale, NC and South Hill, VA Home Depot's. The staff is super friendly at both locations, the stores are neat, well-lit, and organized, and the selection is great.
Lowe's has gone down hill in Roanoke Rapids over the last few years. It's a shame that they're so unhelpful and rude. One would think they'd make a better effort at customer service if they know their selection is so low and pitiful. read more
