Cool Ass Hotel!!!! If you are a Lover of old Hotels this is your place!!! It started with wanting to make Point Pleasant my first stop in my road trip home to California.. Why Point Pleasant??? Because of the Mothman of course... So we embarked from Woodbridge Virginia to Point Pleasant West Virginia... After hours of driving we see signs pointing us in the way of our destinaton... We arrived around 17:00 to the town center a few turns down some one way streets and there we are parked right in front of The Lowe Inn!!! I get out and walk through the doors and up the steps into the lobby... Its like I've been transported into a Stephen King book... Cool Right?? Well guess which one?? Scaning the suroundings I see a Phone Operator's switchboard, old room boxes for mail, pictures from the early 1900's & a small boy coloring on the floor but nobody behind the desk.. As I get closer to the front desk the boy looks up at me smiles, says Hi and takes off to another part of the hotel... I say HELLLO and out walks the caretaker of the Hotel!!! She greets us with a smile and asks if she can help... Of course we reply with the "we would like to stay for one night" Mary then begins to ask if she can see the rooms and the Caretaker says of course lets go upstairs... They leave and I begin to take pictures of this cool lobby... ... This place put me in the mindset of Stephen Kings: "The Shinning" and upon there return we find out that we will be the only ones in the Hotel tonight!!! Mary then asks about ghosts.... OOOOOOO right!!!! Caviot we will be staying in the same Room (303) as "Rob" from Survivor!!!!! Lets just say he freaked out when he stayed in that room!!! LOL I thought to myself what a wimp.... :) So we check in $59.99 plus tax for the night cool right!!!! The Whole hotel to ourselves for One night only 59.99 can't beat that.... The Caretaker hands me a Skeleton Key with a room plate 303... Now I am like too cool a Skeleton Key to unlock & lock our door to the room.... Of course I have pictures of me using the Skeleton Key opening the door. I grab our things and head upstairs.... This place has grand hallways and are long just like in "The Shinning" I was really expecting to see the girls on the tricycles but not this time... Maybe it was too early the sun had not set yet..... We head back down looking to get something to eat.. The Caretaker recommends one of her favorites down the street called Iron Gate... Dinner is over and we walk back to the hotel cold quiet erie but awesome!!! This town is right out of a Hollywood set.. In the town where the Mothman Prophecies originated!!!!! Back at the hotel our car is the only one the street creepy.... When the caretaker said we would be the only ones in the hotel she meant it... Nobody there just the Janitor but we never saw that person or even heard them that whole night... Heading up the stairs Mary was waiting for some ghost activity all I wanted was to shower and get naked... The room has a King bed that feels like Heaven when on it... the decor is early 1900's there is a Water heater to heat the room... This room ooozes Coolness!!!!!!!! If there were any ghosts in our room that night all they saw was my ass and a whole lot of naked!!! HAHAHHA LOL :) Honestly in all of the hotels I have stayed Hilton, JW Marriot, Hyatt, Wynn, Sheraton this was the best sleep in all my Life!!!!!! Never have I slept sooo good and been so refreshed!!! My wife and I recently visited Point Pleasant, a place I've always wanted to go because of a lifelong fascination with Mothman. As soon as we got into town we stopped at the statue of Mothman, I took lots of pictures, squealed like a small child on Christmas morning, and then asked the question, "Where to sleep tonight?" As soon as I saw the Lowe, I knew this was where we were sleeping. It's a fantastic hotel with the older elegance of a structure built in 1901. The caretakers were very friendly and allowed me to walk around the hotel taking pictures (there were no other guests) and telling me about the history. Yes, it can be creepy, specially if you read about the supposed hauntings of the hotel and have seen the Shining or the Innkeepers, but it's also gorgeous. We stayed the weekend after Thanksgiving and the family was decorating it for Christmas. Absolutely gorgeous! As some have mentioned the decoration is unusual and quite eclectic, the rooms all seem to be different, there is a banquet hall, a mezzanine, and a very cool ballroom on the fourth floor. Some rooms don't have amenities like refrigerators, the cable seemed to go out for a few seconds every few minutes, and there were no ice machines and such, but the hotel itself was just so much fun to wander around. It was also fairly inexpensive- our bill was around $70 something after tax and such. Fantastic place that I eagerly await another trip too! read more

My husband and I were living in Point Pleasant temporarily while he was completing his clinicals and my mother and grandmother came into town to visit for the fourth of July, they stayed at the Lowe Hotel. We decided that we would stay a night in the hotel as well so that we could be close to them and booked two rooms for Friday night and one room for Saturday. My mom wanted to stay here, because she wanted to stay at the "haunted hotel" thanks a lot ghost hunters haha. Upon entering the hotel its gorgeous, it is old and it does smell old, but you can see what a beautiful hotel it used to be. My moms room was nice she got a suite it had a king bed and a little on-suite living room, it was clean. Our room had a funny smell kind of like arm pit, but I think it was coming from the adjoining room next to ours where a few men were staying. (There was a huge crack under the door so smells and sounds came over easily) We stayed in my mom's room pretty much all evening after going out for shopping, but at about 11:30 pm we ventured to our room to sleep for the night. This was the second time that we had been in the room the first was to drop of our overnight bag. My husband went to the bathroom to get ready for bed and when he got back a big huge bug that looked like a centipede come crawling down the lace that was hanging over the bed. My husband knocked it off the lace on to the wall and squished it with a tissue box. It was then decided that we would be going home for the night, the man up front was elderly and kind of rude, he told us that the bug we found without looking at it was a cricket... I have lived in WV all my life and it was not a cricket. We showed him the picture of the bug still he said it was a cricket. I couldn't believe he was arguing with us about what kind of bug was crawling on his hotel bed!!!! Anyway he said he would give us a refund the next day since we had checked in at 5 pm and didn't plan on staying. He just had to get the manager to give us the refund the next day. Went home slept good no bugs! Next day we got our refund, but I was told the bug in our room was indeed a cricket and they come up from the drains, that they live in the basement.... I DON'T CARE WHAT KIND OF BUG YOU THINK IT IS!!!! I know what I saw and I don't like bugs in my bed and I hope you take care of your basement problem. I will never stay there again! There are bugs! No Ghost that I saw and Rude Staff!!! STAY AWAY! read more

Had the opportunity to stay here for two days. The hotel itself is like being transported back to a bygone era. How cool is it that you are given a skeleton key to your room! The rooms are comfortable with adequate accommodations. The bed was very comfortable, and the room had a fridge. If you don't mind a museum-like atmosphere or if antiques are not to your liking, then go ahead and stay in one of those commercial sterile environments across the river. But if you truly want to experience a town immersed in legend and history , then do yourself a favor and stay at the Historical Lowe Hotel. Unfortunately I had no paranormal experiences...but I plan on booking a room this January for 2016 Mothman festival! read more

My husband and I stayed here for our 5th Wedding Anniversary. He called ahead and made all the necessary arrangements as a surprise for me. Not only were we going to Point Pleasant West Virginia to see the Mothman but, we were staying in a 110 year old haunted hotel! AND !!!! To make it even better ... he made sure he booked us the most haunted room in the hotel! Rush and Ruth Finley, the owners, are just the best people! They made sure everything my husband planed went off perfectly, even to having two wine glasses and a cork screw available for the bottle of wine he surprised me with. Although Ruth has a very strict rule she never speaks of the hauntings until you have spent at least one night, she was great with letting us roam the fourth floor (which wasn't open to the public at the time) and helping us with information about the local area. The hotel is in a slow renovation, which is fine by me because they are taking a great deal of love in their restoration. We had room 316, which is the most haunted room in the hotel. It is three rooms put together into a suit. Now do not get excited thinking this was half a hotel floor, it was three old fashion rooms. Ya know back when they didn't have bathrooms in each room? So one room became the bathroom, one room was the seating area, and one was where the two double beds were. The room was adorned with not exactly period turn of the century furniture and decor but older furnishings. The bathroom was well stocked with ample towels and soaps, the beds had four pillows each, and the room was very clean. Although it was not incredibly hot during our stay, the two window air conditioning units were more than adequate for keeping our room cool. Most amazingly was that for as old as this building is, there was no noise from the other guests. One would think that for as thin as the walls were, the transoms above the doors and simple wooden doors on each room you would hear everything in the other rooms but surprisingly you do not, but then it is possible I was just so sound asleep in the big comfy bed I didn't hear anything! As far as the "super natural" happenings ... I have to tell you I have never had a more peaceful night sleep in my life! I know that sounds like nothing but when you understand that I never sleep through the night without waking up several times for one reason or another, you would understand why I personally think the "spirits" protected me and helped me sleep through the night. You do often get the weird feeling of being watched but that was really all that we "experienced". Having said that I do want to say that while we were there, my husband and I walked all over that town and were absolutely exhausted by 10 pm and quite literately passed out cold in those big fluffy beds. We took a lot of our ghost hunting equipment with us to take pictures, EVPs, IRF's and all sorts of things but never even unpacked our equipment because we were having so much fun with everything else in the area and talking with the locals! I really liked this place! It's not for everybody, but if you like history, quirky stuff, and friendly people, this is the hotel to stay at. The price was great, bed was comfortable, the room was clean (though a little cluttered with decor), and I just had a lovely stay. If you like modern decor or the "frills" of a nicer hotel, this place isn't for you. For example, no ice machines, and no electronic keys (skeleton keys! Way cooler anyway, in my opinion.). But I really found it charming. There was a nice little sitting room at the end of the hall and the rooms are very interesting. read more
